the digital adaptation of a very cozy chill euro boardgame about birds. the bird art is fantastic with added animations and birdcalls for steam. since it's very euro, wingspan is mostly a game of abstract competitive solitaire. that's not my usual jam, but it works with the cozy chill bird vibe. good for chilling with your bros and talking avian smack. the mechanics, as adapted from the boardgame, are fairly simple and simply fair. the digital adaptation avoids the unprofessional chuff that can be too common with digital adaptations of boardgames. I give this game four out of four bird ups. that's the maximum number.
A great way to learn the board game, which my wife ultimately refused to play, leaving me with a $10 port (yay!) of an $80 board game (boo). I especially appreciate how quickly a session lasts, once you get the hang of it it's a 20 minute run with no penalty for walking away, perfect for a father and husband and someone's employee and gamer.
Beautifully illustrated and balanced game. Play alone or with friends, it's always a pleasure (sometimes you win completely unexpectedly in the final stages). Love the birds and paintings, the mechanics and cannot wait for the next DLC. Play 200+ hrs? No problem :) One side effect: every time I see a bird, I think about how many points it's worth, what food it needs, and what special effect it has.
