Feb. 2026
WRC 9 and WRC 10 are the only rally games I can recommend besides Dirt Rally 2.0 (I play on PS5 controller). WRC Generations: throttle bug (car does not accelerate at all for the first 70% of the trigger travel, but then power suddenly kicks in like you are in a rocketship) makes cars uncontrollable and makes the whole game straight unplayable since the first minute. Game has huge amount of content but it doesn't even matter. Stay away from this game. EA Sports WRC: disgusting optimization, you can't even get past 120 fps while your CPU max load is 36% and your GPU max load is 42%. It doesn't make any sense. And to top it all, there's micro stuttering every 3-5 seconds that drops your fps down to 20. It's not my PC or your PC, it's just Unreal Engine 4 being absolutely cooked. It's funny to see people complaining about kernel-level EA anticheat. Trust me, that's the least of your problems. This is the worst optimized game I've ever played in my life. Stay away. Assetto Corsa: it's still in early access but, as of today, it's unplayable on PS5 controller (or any controller): steering linearity is non-existent, car feels like driving on ice no matter what the surface is. Also, developers clearly underestimated how much downforce/grip a WRC car has. People who claim that "this is a real rally simulator" are probably the same who claim that "Richard Burns Rally is a real rally simulator". No, it is not. WRC cars absorb bumps like NOTHING and have considerable downforce at high speed. Meanwhile, these games make your car feel like you are driving on F1 car's ultra-stiff suspension while having the downforce of a zeppelin. A game being difficult doesn't necessarily mean the game is good or even realistic. And please, don't tell me that the game is realistic when you play it on a 4500€ hydraulic-piston-G-force-simulation-seat-with-professional-forcefeedback-wheel-and-steel-pedals setup, it still isn't. Dirt Rally 2.0: it would be the best rally game ever made if it wasn't for its lack of content, lack of rallies, lack of stages and lack of official WRC cars licensing, and mediocre/bad tarmac physics. Graphics are absolutely wonderful for a 2019 game and co-driver is not perfect, but at least he feels alive. Rallycross mode is quite fun and it has official licensing. However the game eventually gets boring because of its general lack of content. WRC 9: great compromise between content (larger than Dirt Rally 2.0) and car physics (a bit worse than DR 2.0). The game is fun, steering immediately feels consistent for controller even without touching the car setup, tarmac physics are THE BEST ever made in any rally game, long stages (aka 'Epic Stages') are delightful to drive and so are night stages. Car damage system is very well made and you can feel components wearing off even if you don't crash at all. But it also has issues: interior cameras make the road much darker for no reason, to the point that you need to turn headlights on during some day stages in sunny weather. AI difficulty is very inconsistent: in order not to get boring wins all the time, in some rallies you need to set difficulty to 120%, in others (Sweden) to 150%, in others (Germany) to 100%. Career mode might look fun at first but it gets boring quickly, and there are some bugs (like crew members disappearing from your roster for no reason), so you'll end up playing the basic Season mode. WRC 10: better than WRC 9 in some aspects, but worse in others: gravel physics are better, but tarmac physics are worse (way too much grip). However, the difference of grip between surfaces even during the same stage is absolutely brilliant. For example, in Montecarlo, where you can have asphalt and snow/ice during the same stage, when you drive over a patch of ice you immediately feel the lack of grip. And also the opposite: when the road is full of snow but you find some dry patch of asphalt on it, the car instantly finds grip. It's such a satisfying feeling. Dynamic weather during stages also feels nicer because the improved tyre physics increase the difference between dry and wet conditions and also the landscape's lighting and color palette changes accordingly. PS5 controller vibration was improved with some sort of haptic feedback (not working on bluetooth, just when controller is plugged in) where throttle/brake triggers get stiff when you rev too much, when engine is damaged or when you lock wheels. It's not perfect but it's more immersive than not having it. However, they touched the joystick sensitivity and deadzone settings and using the same settings as in WRC 9 doesn't give the same results, so get ready to struggle until you find a good setup for you. Night stages are unplayable from inside the car. You need to use the bonnet camera in order to see anything. It's such an infuriating downgrade from WRC 9 because it was already perfect in WRC 9. Strategy got an "upgrade" and now you can choose all your tyres at the beginning of the rally and swap them whenever you want. Too bad you will only be using the soft compound tyres 99% of the time (hards degrade almost as fast but have much lower grip). Career also got upgraded and has a bit more complexity now. There are new roles available for crew members, there's team chemistry, expiring contracts, new type of events, etc. The game has a bit more content than WRC 9. Of course, the official 2021 WRC calendar is the one you get in the game, but they also included one stage from rallies that got removed from the calendar in that year (Argentina, Mexico, New Zealand and Germany -there's no Turkey though). TLDR: Both WRC 9 and WRC 10 are good and very fun games I recommend if you play on controller. But I would never pay more than 5€ for any of them nowadays (they are 2020/2021 games after all). There are aggressive discounts (90% off) pretty often for these games, so just wait for one of those if you want to buy them. About the other games I mentioned above (except Dirt Rally 2.0), don't bother buying even on discount.

I was a big fan of Dirt Rally 2.0 on PS4 and wanted a Rally game on PC and after reading some reviews decided to pick up WRC9 on sale. After playing it for several hours I have had a lot of fun with it. The car handling is fun even if drifting and braking are not as smooth and enjoyable as it was in Dirt Rally 2.0. At the same time the game looks great and there is a fantastic sense of speed when you floor it on long stretches of road or nail a corner well. In a world of expensive racing sims and arcade racers this is an easy game to recommend given that it is often just a few dollars on sale and offers so much rewarding and fun gameplay.

It's a fun rally game. Some small technical issues: disappearing audio sometimes for a few seconds. Aside from that it's very faithful to the rally experience. The challenges that the manufacturers give you are boring and sometimes counter-intuitive like when they (for some reason) want you to don't use a certain tyre type for example. The career mode is fun and challenging. Sometimes you are forced to loose certain races to save the car or you get shafted on the next race because you won't be able to fix the car in time which is both realistic and gives you a choice. Car brands are also different on how they treat you. For example it's very hard for you to get accepted by Hyundai (imho they have the best car) but for exchange they always want you get in the top 3 on every race. The team management is a bit confusing at first because every profession has a grade (from common to legendary) but it doesn't translate well in the game. Sometimes a common is much better then a legendary mechanic. I find historic races and extreme conditions to be a mixed bag. The latter is almost always to drive around a short distance in the rain at night with a damaged car. The former is a random car on a random track. Nothing historic here and it's just weird to do them in the middle of the season but occasionally they spice up the experience. Overall it is as much fun as the coveted Dirt games, but it's not flawless.

It's a crime this game is so criminally underplayed and underpriced. I am a intermediate rally enthusiast playing on controller and in 3rd person with minimal HUD and having a blast. No other racing comes close compared to WRC 7, WRC 9 and EA WRC. The three are unique experiences and I recommend enjoying them in chronological order, solo in career mode. Get lost in the details as much or as little as you need and take your mind off anything but the next 2-3 bends in the road. Great graphics, decent career modes, amazing stages and variety. The older games have little to no car customization and WRC 7 has the best audio balance by far. WRC 9 is a step in the right direction in many areas except sounds. Career could use some "reason" and depth and become 100x more immersive but considering my original point these games barely make enough to justify a sequel and pay for licensince. I wish they made a royalty free game and focus all their effort on the experience rather than realistic sponsors and vehicles. Absolute banger of a car game. Can't wait to 100% it and keep playing.

Driving on asphalt in this game is horrible. Not even close to reality. A simple real car without modifications is more stable on the road.
