The game is good, but it takes up a lot of time. Time, specifically, which is not particularly engaging. A lot of it is gonna be spent flying around in space from one destination to the other, and it's gonna be especially aggravating whilst playing the story, which is going to be mostly nothing but flying to places (with a few interesting events), and will require you to get larger (and therefore slower) ships to progress in a meaningful way. You can start on the story initially, but I would highly suggest exploring the sandbox portion first until you've acquired funds and or better ships, or both, depending on how much of a pirate you arr. In addition to this, save judiciously. This game has a few bugs, but the ones which are there can be catastrophic, and will cost you hours of flying around in space. Such bugs include but are not limited to: Certain questlines breaking for no reason, one of your ships crashing into you under the follow command, and autopilot deciding that your continued existence is not necessary to reach it's destination. You also cannot save on the fly unless you're in a station or have a stockpile of items called "salvage insurance", which makes it really hard to actually keep up to date saves unless you ping pong across stations. There's a really large time investment here, unprecedented for a singleplayer game, not all of it is gonna be interactive. In a way, it's a bit like life. When you do get somewhere, it's very gratifying, but there are tons of risks along the way.

The game is fun if you like flying in space, making money, and managing supply fleets. There is combat, and there is technically a main quest, though I've never gotten far in it. I like building up a massive fleet, and this does that for me.

X3 is one of those games where you need to spend about 20 hours or more just learning how everything works. Controls are kinda all over the place, stuff can be pretty janky at times, and overall it's just a pretty old game which can give it that outdated feeling. BUT... I have yet to find another game that lets me live out my fantasy of establishing a space weed/arms dealing empire across the galaxy in this much detail. Great game, but there is definitely a very steep learning curve which will deter a lot of people.

I love this game I can't get enough of it. It's an amazing sand box space game where you can make massive fleets of war ships, you can become a massive profitable business owner making and selling weapons and ammunition, energy shields, and basic goods. The game also has a massive story, though the most annoying thing has to be the xenon hub missions because of how long they are.
