I have never had this much fun with an early access title. I am obsessed with this game. I can't wait to see what else awaits. *EDIT* After another 40+ hours with this title, I can confirm it is one of the best I've played. I love a challenge, and this one is a doozy. I'm almost to the point of joining the discord or whatever to find out how people are beating some of these levels. Finally cleared all of sector A, good lord. *2ND EDIT* It took me 266 hours but I finally beat it. EXCELLENT
This might be the old school gamer and diehard Aliens fan in me, but I love this game! So easy to pick up and play, yet difficult to master. You play as a remote commander directing your team to complete each mission and escape. There's plenty variety in your squads, weapons, and loadouts to keep gameplay fresh (re-playability). The visuals are very "Alien-like" with a lot of easter eggs for the hardcore fans. The audio is great too... intense and immersive. This is just a fun game that deserves more love, especially from the Aliens fans out there.
I don't know whether to compare this first to Space Hulk, or to Aliens, but it is a great atmospheric game that evokes a huge amount of gritty scifi horror into a beautifully reductive graphical representation. Definitely had moments feeling like Lambert shouting for Dallas to "get out of there", but equally like Gorman in the APC struggling to give commands while watching his squads comms blink out. They have a few extra elements outside the main gameplay which is pretty cool, but turns it from a game you could run on literally any machine into something more resouce intensive. It is also funny how they expressly advise against having a mouse, but you need it for those narrative scenes. I feel like if they took those elements out and optimized it then they could have a brilliant experience for mobile I think the game has loads of potential for other game modes, or complications beyond the alien threat, but as it is I think it's a great experience well worth the full price. Trailer does a good job, if that catches your eye then at least wishlist it for when it goes on sale
Absolutely awesome real time tactics game! You can play it on an easy 'simulation' tactical pause mode, but I'd guess that would massively reduce the tension & excitement. I normally avoid real-time action in favour of proper turn based combat games. But this one is very much worth the effort. Getting snowball powerups with the bioweave squad and being totally OP for the second half of the run is the most fun I've had in years. Only -ve I'd call out is that they're being a bit naughty to call this is an auto-battler. Granted, it has auto-battler qualities and occasionally you get 40 seconds where you can just watch your squad take care of business. But mostly you need to micro manage with super quick reactions. I've even had the unexpected benefit of getting better at my job due to the mental exercise. Graphics are old school, but has near perfect sound & voice acting, also well written lore.
Imagine the motion sensor from the movie Alien. Now turn that into a tactical FTL style roguelike. A singular dot on a CRT screen. Except that dot has helped you survive, saved VIPs, fended off monsters and you shed a solemn tear now that you have to sacrifice it as bait so some other dots can escape. With that premise in mind the game offers multiple different squads, weapons, loadouts and strategies that keep the gameplay fresh and rewarding. For it's price it is an excellent innovative addition to the genre. There is another element that made me go WOW when first discovered, you can step away from the CRT monitor and walk around the same hallways of your screen in first person. Your reward for winning a run; a horror game giving your imagination fodder for what those dots are experiencing. While this aspect never really lives up to it's potential it adds so much depth and intrigue that you want to finish the run to keep exploring. Hell if they let you do a level in first person every now and then, this would be one of the greatest horror games of all time.
