YONO turned out to be a surprisingly enjoyable remake, with good variety, a decent plot, voice acting, and artwork. What else could you want from a good work? A lot, of course. But that “a lot” depends first and foremost on the reader’s expectations. For me, for example, sci-fi is always terrible. “The Gates of Stein” was practically my limit. A good and gripping story, but too scientific for me... Yono, on the other hand, managed to almost catch up to Stein and even some other fantastic visual novels, but… However, in order to raise money and reach a wider audience, they cut out the sex scenes in the remake. They tried to do it carefully and put in a tremendous amount of work… That’s true. The art, the sound, the graphics... And yet, when instead of sex scenes we’re shown a couple of half-naked girls with a post-coital dialogue, it’s... It throws off the balance. For me, at least. I won’t even mention the scenes of violence, which also had a much stronger impact in the original. A lot of preamble, but still... Yuno will show readers just how deep other people’s secrets can be. It’s a story that’s truly worth reading. Here, you’ll find other dimensions and a completely justified shift in reality depending on the routes you take, and so on... Of course, there’s a bit of sex and some pretty intense romance. It’s a delight. You’ll have to click and replay a lot, but it’s worth it... Be prepared to spend about 30–40 hours, depending on your reading speed. Pros: - Gorgeous voice acting throughout - Excellent artwork - Reminded me of my favorite titles, like *The Girl in the Shell*, *Caucasus*, and *End of the World Syndrome*—even if this one is much weaker - The characters are very appealing - The plot is cool and lively - Enjoyable interaction with objects - Lots of endings - The sex isn’t cut out, but rather “toned down” to a 16+ rating P.s. (THERE IS NO PATCH; those scenes are Just dont exist in the remake. They change them quite willingly to no nipples and no pubic hair, no cruelty, no hentai scenes, and all PG stuff... Though they left the fact scenes as 14+ stuff) Cons: - A bit too much unnecessary running around - Sometimes it’s hard to find your way around - Real adult scenes have been CUT (hentai, and some extremely violent content) Conclusion: Strange as it may seem, I actually enjoyed this game. It’ll appeal to younger players. But for old-timers like me who remember the original… they’re better off playing that one instead. The retro art style and the developers’ original vision—who didn’t trade “hentai” for “marketing”—still have a bit more soul than the remake. All in all, we love Erica, give the remake a solid 7, and move on. If you’ve been searching for a hidden gem and have long wanted to play something worthwhile—here it is. And if hentai makes you queasy—then this is pure gold for you. As for my adult mates and me... Yeah...that hentai cut is a huge kick into the balls in a very bad way. Plus the origin story is WAY more dark then remake.
Steins;Gate before Steins;Gate became a thing! I've watched the anime YU-NO a few months ago and it made me fell in love with the series. I didn't even know about the VN when i watched the anime so after finishing it i did some research and found out there is VN which is supposed to be really good. So i bought the remake on steam on sale. Was it worth it? 100%! If you did watch the anime and you wanna know more about the world, story, characters etc then you should play this game for sure! The CGI looks great, music sounds really good and always fits the current scene You can intract with a lot of stuff, go wherever you want and not many VN's allow you to do that. Keep in mind tho, the game is really old (the original) and there is not many guides out there if you wanna go for 100% like myself. So its a bit of struggle to 100% this game. Before i bought the game i've heard a lot of negative things about the remake which i can not agree on. A lot of people said its censored, there is no h scenes, its bad compared to the orginal and so on. Thats all not true. The game is not censored, the original had NO h scenes only some nudity and its not censored at all in the remake. (Check my YU-NO screenshots) My personal thoughts why i like this game a lot and why its my favorite VN besides Steins;Gate: The MC might be dumb, but he is not a complete idiot which makes everything more fun and natural. I love his kind of "horny humor" - He always has something stupid to say. (almost) Everytime he intracts with a women he's gonna say something stupid for sure! If you're not into that kind of humor then you'll hate the MC and the game a lot. The game takes it self somewhat serious but not completely. As i said in the title, its Steins;Gate before Steins;Gate became a thing but with a horny MC. If you don't mind that then you should get this game on sale for sure! (not full price) tl;dr: Good remake + Steins;Gate + Horny MC + Sci-Fi + Bunch of hot women = YES.
Remake or not, YU-NO is an all-time classic, this version has some weird changes but overall I think the QoL improvements make up for it. It is not a title like ChuSinGura 46+1 S where you should definitely play with the original version alongside. What makes YU-NO great is its compelling storyline and elaborate world-building. Considering it was originally a PC-98 title you will only appreciate it even more. Also it has great music and sound design. The MIDI style soundtrack conveys those nightly feels so well it's hard to find something like that these days. The sense of loneliness and otherworldliness is so necessary for the game's theme, regardless of whatever else, these are beautiful and skillful works. for some reason the game reminds me of Rance series even though I've never played any Rance game before. Gameplay-wise I appreciate the route design of the game. Unlike some galgames you can go through one or two routes then call it a day where you essentially ignore half of the game content or something. In this game, you need to go through all routes to find the final answer to things. And even the approach itself sounds perfect on paper. In practice, many games either go bloated or let the routes feeling isolated from each other in the end yet YU-NO hits the sweet spot rightly like it's nothing to be proud of. This somewhat one-way-through structure is what I prefer for a story-focused experience. That being said, I'm not saying YU-NO did it perfectly in that sense but you see the vision. Obviously, I'm not going to touch the cross project which is the 2019 anime adaptation but I hope that somewhere in the future they will remake the game again. YU-NO is like that now bonus time. Stay away from the 1998 OVA, that was some witchcraft over there. Like, D-AMMMMN
