Above Snakes is a fun little open world sandbox survival game, with the unique twist being the tile-based world generation. It’s easy to figure out, and good in short bursts. The early game is great. The tile-based concept is satisfying, and the progression of exploring, crafting, and unlocking tiles feels rewarding. Mid-game, though, things start to feel a bit stale. The early food options stay the best all the way through. Resource gathering becomes a chore, having to run to other sides of the map. The crafting and base-building are fine. Not too complicated or annoying, forgiving inventory system, but nothing to write home about either. Thew story/writing are... really bad (possibly even a bit problematic?). The story surrounds Native American culture, but is kinda lazy and tone deaf. 100% in 16.8 hours.

Above Snakes is a fun little tile-based game with a unique twist on exploration and crafting. It’s easy to figure out, great for playing in short bursts, and perfect for when you just want to relax. That said, it’s not perfect (as anything ever is). The early game is amazing. The whole β€œbuild your world one tile at a time” concept is super satisfying, and the progression of exploring, crafting, and unlocking tiles feels rewarding. The story starts strong too; the quests are interesting and do a good job of tying the exploration and world-building together. But keep in mind that a lot of the progression is locked behind story quests, so if you feel stuck go make sure you’ve talked to everyone and completed their quests. Mid-game, though, things start to fall apart a bit. The food system is a great concept, but poorly delivered as the simplest recipes like cooked meat or fish skewers are the best by far. There’s no point in crafting higher-tier recipes, except for a few niche uses like restoring sanity or health. It’s honestly a waste of time and resources. The crafting and base-building are... fine? Not too easy, not too complicated. You can build a little functional square house, and place a handful of decoration options. On the bright side, the inventory system is fantastic. No carry weight, plenty of storage, and no annoying Tetris mechanics where items take up weird amounts of space. It’s simple and stress-free. The survival mechanics are surprisingly forgiving. If you ignore your hunger, thirst, or fatigue meters, you don’t die, you just get some penalties, like slower movement or reduced health. The penalty for zero sanity it’s so well thought! I think that was a nice touch that makes the game more relaxing than stressful. That said, there are some mechanics that are really unclear. For example, when farming you need to water and fertilize crops right before harvesting, not when you plant them to get the best yields. TL;DR: Above Snakes is a solid fun little game with a lot of potential. The world-building and exploration are great at first, but the mid-game systems start to feel repetitive and unbalanced. If you’re looking for a relaxing game to unwind with, it’s worth a shot. 7/10

Started it and woke up 13h later with the game done. Pulls you in and doesn't let go. Difficulty level just enough to be fun without it being hard and frustrating. May need a bit of work on feather availability as well as copper availability. Mines have a very nice concept, but don't work in practice :(

(6/10) This a fun little crafting/survival game with its own unique spin on the genre. Not going to down vote because it's well put together, I just don't think it is for me. Earning and adding map tiles is a neat idea, but after playing this game, I found out I prefer to have my map already made. Could be for some, just not for me.
