I think it's really fun! My only criticism isn't about the gameplay. It's a pet peeve of mine that games and stories about restoring the land focus on killing mushroom creatures and introducing greenery. Mushrooms are so important to the ecosystem, and there are ecosystems that exist in dry/sandy/rocky locations. I know it's a dumb thing to care about, but I wanna say it anyway. :)

Comparing with having put in over 3800 hours in MD, 1100 hours in to Raft, 335 hours into Necesse, 550 hours into 7d2d and now currently at 123 hours into Aloft, I felt is was time I gave my review to counter some of the recent negative reviews. ---First and foremost--- this is still a early access game Pro's: Customizable game play (easy, hard, creative, etc.)You can set controls to player preference. Even in multiplayer, each person can set their own difficulty as well Story, has a beginning, middle and end. Not to complex but complete as some do not and leave you either scratching your head to understand and follow or just leave you hanging. Music Score's are mood immersive and helps create the atmosphere Interesting Art Style Game mechanic's implemented very well, enhanced with a unique style of mini games and combo's to make both resource gathering and combat stand out from other games in it's genre and provides additional dopamine No timers. No stress to "run" back home to end the day. Cozy exploration and imagination inducing creativity. Freedom- No building punishment, +1 for refund the building materials Con's: Only if you do not take the time to READ the in game info and tips, play longer than the 2 hour refund time and give enough energy to figure out the mechanic's, which are both easy and explained You might think its a bit constraining with Character creation because you are rewarded later in game with further Character customization. Optimization can be better improved but even with lower graphic settings (fps, shadow's or clouds) you can fully enjoy and experience the game. I gifted my family and friends the game, started a small server and have built a parkour course on the beginner island. Built a lovely tree house home. Built a medieval style tavern with setting in side and on the attached patio balcony. Hugged a frog. Stepped on a cute lizard. Went to sky limit. Watched sunrises and sunsets while chilling with others. Flew like Ang and raced another islander. Well worth the price, your time, your imagination etc. And did I mention its still early access. What will you experience?

Beautiful, cosy survival game with easy combat mechanics and endless potential. I originally started playing before the Blooms and Blight update. I loved the visuals and design but found play style repetitive, lacking progression (unlocking things that required items you haven't seen, or even heard of yet was frustrating) and at times some lag or bugs. BUT NOW... The new island restoration is visually breathtaking, no more trying to find an insect that isn't already on it. Progression is a little slower now but the new knowledge trees allows better utilisation of the points instead of a random building pieces. More tool/weapon options means you aren't waiting forever to upgrade to the next set. Wind lanes make cluster travel so much easier. New Corruption strains and corruption research adds more depth to the once ridiculously simple research method that was over before it began. The potential of future updates is going to be HUGE! Yes, my previous saves are no longer there BUT they are not gone completely, just relocated to the 'Legacy Branch' in Steam's beta options. The good news: they have implemented the necessary measures to allow more seamless updates in the future without having to start new every time. This game is in early access, if you go into this expecting the quality of the big 'triple A' games, maybe early access titles are not for you. The Discord channel has great engagement from the devs and community management team in addition to the players who always help answer any questions or concerns you have. I love this game and highly recommend. Cannot wait to see what the future brings!

Short version: This game is like the most juicy beef wellington in existence but the cook literally just assembled it and it still needs about a year or two in the oven before you can actually eat it, and hopefully they don't burn it because it has a lot of potential. Long Version: While being playable it really does feel in early access and you should definitely wait for an update or two before buying it, i don't think the game is worth it's price yet. It's a very nice cozy game, but very buggy, at least in multiplayer where i spent 90% of the time playing. It also has no excuse for it to be running this badly, i know the steam deck it's not to be considered a top of the line gaming pc, but it can still run most games very smoothly, Aloft however, makes it choke and die, and people i played with with actual gaming PCs have had the same issues, we also encountered a situation where the game would crash instantly upon loading in, forcing us to stop playing. Me rambling about weird stuff in this game hoping they will fix it in the future: The game has also a lot of weird balancing and progression quirks, for example, why do i have so many non renewable resources in a game all about environment and ecosystem restoration?? why can't i make charcoal myself? like, you do get enough from islands, but trees are literally an invasive species in this game and if you don't chop them down constantly your island WILL get covered by them, so you end up having literal tons of wood, but not any real way to use it. The combat has a lot of mechanics that are 100% meaningless, you can use the most basic sword without any buff or food and still just kill every enemy in an island(if you just jump at the right time you can avoid every hit), i played for most of the game without using 90% of the combat mechanics the game has to offer, and there was no issue whatsoever. And also you will learn some recipies WAYY before you can actually craft them, the biggest example being fungicide, you will learn how to make it at the end of the first area, and only be able to craft it when you get to the last area, and at that point you don't need it anymore. Also, i really hope that they plan to add more decorations because it feels like the game has barely any at the moment, you can still make some pretty nice stuff but with them but this being a "cozy" game a good 50% of the appeal should be decorating your house. Something that also really bothered me was the combos you can do with tools, for example if you're chopping down a tree and hit right click at the right time for 3 times your character will do a more powerful chop, the issue being the animation for this attack is so slow that you actually cut them down faster by missing the combo and clicking again, so you get punished for playing the game "right".
