Dec. 2025
This completely blindsided me. Not just as a game, but as something I got to properly share with my son. We jumped in thinking we knew what we were doing. We absolutely did not. Those early hours were brutal in the best way. Every creature felt deadly. We were always hungry & thirsty, under-geared, constantly lost and getting wiped by basically anything we came across. But that struggle is what made it special. Sitting there side by side, laughing at how bad we were, dying, resetting and trying again. It genuinely felt like the start of a real adventure. Slowly things started to click. We found our rhythm. Learned when to fight, when to run, how to prep properly and actually survive instead of just reacting. Watching my son go from panicking at everything to confidently calling out plans, locations and ideas was insanely rewarding. The game doesn’t hold your hand, and because of that every bit of progress feels earned. We pushed deep into the world, eventually completing the dragon slayer quest - adventuring across the treacherous Fellhollow and making sure we unlocked everything we possibly could. Quests big and small, exploration, vaults. It all felt meaningful and worth doing. The world constantly rewards curiosity and there was always something pulling us forward. Then came the moment I’ll never forget. My son, who’s still very young, managed to defeat the mighty Imaru with me on our second attempt. The final boss mechanics in the current expansion are genuinely excellent. It reminded me a lot of early Destiny. Cleansing ourselves of the soul rifting, swapping between realms to stun the boss so the instant wipe mechanic didn’t delete the run, then making the most of the damage phases when they opened up. It demanded coordination, not just brute force. When we finally brought the dragon down, my son completely lost it. Pure excitement, yelling, laughing, unable to contain himself. One of those gaming moments you don’t forget. Something I’ll genuinely cherish. Looking at the roadmap and what’s still to come, here’s to many more experiences like this. I can’t recommend this game enough if you’re looking for a survival game that’s masterfully wound with the quirkiness of RuneScape, but built on a much more modern engine with huge potential. As a dad, this wasn’t just a great game. It was a shared adventure. 🤝

Really pleased with the content-focused direction and team growth that the devs have committed to. Roadmap is clear, realistic, robust and spans the entire upcoming year. The game will be in 1.0 by the end of 2026, which is great to see after the community expressed concerns that this game would flop. I'm writing this review as of the Felhollow update, which is its first major content release after launch. The vast majority of everything added expands on the game in a meaningful way. If the remaining three content updates are offering the same quantity and quality of content, this will be an absolute banger and definitely one to keep your eye on. The game is worth playing now, but if you'd rather wait until it's "done", you won't be waiting too long. If you like Valheim, you'll love this as they're quite similar. The main difference is that this game seems to be moving along much faster. Overall, a very welcome entry into the genre. Nothing ground-breaking, but it really doesn't have to be. This formula is still fun and doesn't need changing in my opinion.

I’m mostly a solo PC gamer, and RuneScape: Dragonwilds completely pulled me in. I never played classic RuneScape growing up, but this game made me understand the hype instantly. The progression feels earned, the world is dangerous in the right ways, and the building system is incredibly satisfying. You truly start from nothing and build yourself up piece by piece, and that sense of growth never gets old. I’m over 50 hours in and still having a blast. Exploration, combat, crafting, and base-building all work together in a way that keeps you hooked. It scratches that RPG itch in a way a lot of modern games miss. Honestly, it’s up there with the best RPGs I’ve played — and I’d even put it above Fable at this point. Can’t wait to see how much more they add.

Very fun so far, excited to see more content and improvements. Long list of cons because it's early access and they're open to feedback, not because it's a bad game. I would recommend if you like survival games and runescape, I would wait and see if you only like 1 of those. Pros: -Fun combat -Spells are useful and unique -Resource collection is fun -Game is difficult enough to make getting new materials and "upgrading" equipment feel like an accomplishment -Fast travel system is awesome Cons: -Character needs more water than a fish -Cooking a meal with 16 ingredients ends up being the same satiating amount as 2 berries -Collision needs improvement, sucks to lose a fight because you got stuck on a chicken (I should be able to push a chicken) -Limited content/skills available (would love to see so many more skills) -Dragon feels less impactful now. More intense attacks would be more fun now that you can take shelter in your home, it should be a "oh ♥♥♥♥ run" moment like it was, but still be able to actually get away. As it is currently, the dragon attacks can be ignored. I would bring back original attacks but keep only 1 event occurring at a time and safety in home/shelter.

After sinking 80 hours SOLO into playing Runescape Dragonwilds, I have discovered some Pros and Cons of this early access title, and would love to share my thoughts! Starting with the GOOD and FUN things about the game. - This game is beautiful. Bright colours with great environmental effects of the world. - Combat feels awesome and a little souls like, love the parry mechanic. - Building in this game is very addictive the way everything snaps is a builders dream, you can build basically anywhere! - The armour designs and Masterwork weapons are a great touch, very Nostalgic! - Spells feel natural to the game i really enjoyed using different spells to overcome certain fights or even travelling, finding secret caves, and hidden areas. - Quests and side quests are limited but short and sweet! - Vaults are unique, some of them can be quite challenging but overall engaging and super fun! - Having 3 different attack styles (Melee, Ranged, Magic) makes the game fun in way where u can chose what style you want to traverse the map or how you want to approach certain enemy's. - Loved the soundtrack and music! Now we can discuss the BROKEN, BAD and UGLY! - The Dragon attacks feel unnecessary and pointless, also the fact that he still fly's around after you KILL HIM is very strange! The dragon attacks forced tons of people to build in the starter zone (Tier 1) with limited areas to build, because of the constant barrages from Velgars poison attacks if you build in Bramble wood or any (Tier 2) or higher zones. I understand seeing him fly over from time to time, it can add ambience to the game, but it is a very annoying mechanic to deal with and you cant do much about it. - The amount of times you have to SLEEP and EAT in this game is a bit overwhelming , being a survival crafting game i understand the challenges and intensity of these games but my god i felt like i needed to sleep, eat, drink almost every 10 minutes ! It was quite exhausting at times. - Although this game had great visuals it was verrry blurry felt like i had motion blur on in tons of areas. - Spells take way to long to cast, especially if you are trying to put up a tempest shield or even as small as a building spell it takes forever in scenarios where u need it fast! - Lacks content and needs wayy more things to do. After i did the main story quest and killed the dragon there is not much left to do except going out and searching for masterwork weapons, armour and decoration items if you are a collector . - Some resources are quite hard to come by especially Harralander, very limited herb to come by and is essential if you want to make weak anti poisons to travel through the Bloodblight Swamps. - Lacks two skills such as Hunting and Farming. Two of the most important skills in any crafting survival game which too me IMO should have already been released early access, i think it will help with the resource inefficiency. - Travelling in this game on foot can be a daunting task especially if you have to go back to your loot in a areas that are guarded by high tier enemies can get frustrating if you don't have Waystones set up in your favour! Would be nice to see some sort of movement speed spell so i don't have to rely on placing a Waystone in every corner of the map. - Last thing "Bad" about this game is the lack of enemy variety, tons of the areas had similar enemies and to be honest the only thing that made me feel like i was in a different area was the Environmental effects. For example, in the Stormtouched zone it felt dark and dangerous with lightning smacking the ground but no new enemy's around so it did killed the feels of exploring something new ! Not a fan of seeing the same enemies in a different biome. VERDICT Runescape Dragonwilds was super fun! Great combat system, not to mention the soundtrack and music was beautiful along with the visuals very colourful and bright ! Engaging vaults/ dungeons, killing bosses finding new masterworks with Friends or even Solo will be worth your money and time ! THIS IS A CRAFTING SURVIVAL GAME IT IS NOT RUNESCAPE ! If they added more skills, more spells, and a ton of new content this game will thrive but right now it does lack a few elements and could use some optimization! I personally loved this game but to continue following up and playing I think speaking on behalf of the community it needs to push out content fast and make the xp drops smaller so we can get excited about new skills and spells. Tons of potential, keep COOKIN JAGEX! FINAL SCORE - 7.5/10
