Anomaly Agent was an enjoyable action platformer game. Characters are fun and games humour Side is good too. The combat part is quite fluid and enjoyable, the story is not bad. I like the soundtrack of the game ,The boss fights are not bad . The level designs are the same after a while , the visuals are also quite good but the side bosses are repetitive, there were times when I got bored during the platform sections, other than that it was a very enjoyable game.
I was truly surprised by how much fun I had playing [I]Anomaly Agent[/I]. The action was brisk and fluid, with just the right amount of breaktime in between the action to give your weary fingers the chance to recover. Although the developers recommended playing [I]Anomaly Agent[/I] with a game controller, I found it absolutely playable with a keyboard. Yet, because the game maps the Shift key to the dodging action, I highly recommend players to disable Sticky Keys in Microsoft Windows before playing. Controls were responsive, and combos were thankfully easy to execute. If you fail a challenge, it’s more likely that you’d need to improve your response time and rethink your strategy, rather than blame the game for being unfair. There were several parts that I found a bit overwhelming, leading me to rage quit briefly. When I returned with calmer mind and renewed resolve, however, I conquered those waves of enemies with greater ease. Despite the occasional frustration, [I]Anomaly Agent[/I] was very satisfying to play. When my attack landed, the visually and aurally accentuated impact gave a good dopamine hit. Aside from the sharp action, swift momentum, and tight controls, the game also nailed the 16-bit action platformers aesthetics. With an obvious dash of inspiration from [I]Cowboy Bebop[/I] in its artistic design, this game oozes cyberpunk visually through and through. The game’s binary choice ending adds some replayability, especially with the New Game + mode, in which you’d carry over purchased abilities to a new game. It was a rush to replay early levels with advanced abilities, but I only gave it a brief try to earn a few more achievements. Players who crave more of what [I]Anomaly Agent[/I] offers will likely appreciate the Rogue Agent Mode, which is essentially a roguelike. It’s not my cup of tea, but I appreciated how it connects with the game’s canonical ending. With my reflexes being slower, and the need to pause or quit playing at moment’s notice nowadays, I appreciated the developers being so generous with save points in this game. In fact, I haven’t had this much fun with an action platformer since [URL=https://steamcommunity.com/id/CharlieLima79/recommended/1406850][I]The Legend of Tianding[/I][/URL] and replaying old games like [I]Metal Slug 1[/I] to [I]3[/I] about a couple of years ago. There is much fun to be found in non-AAA game category, and [I]Anomaly Agent[/I] is one of the great titles that can capably deliver the entertainment and challenge.
Should you buy... Anomaly Agent? Short Answer: It's a fun but linear action platformer game with a kooky story and respectable sense of humor. Worth the price they're asking, but isn't going to change your life. Long Answer: Anomaly Agent is the most 4/5 star game that I have played in recent memory. There's really nothing that this game does wrong. The combat is enjoyable with a solid amount of complexity and an engaging combo system. Whenever you figure out how to use a new tool and just about master it, the game drops in a new item or enemy type to interact with that keeps you engaged. The dialogue is amusing, with fun little bits and sarcastic banter that occasionally got a chuckle out of me. The story has twists. Level design? Linear, but fun. Music? Fitting with some bops. Art and environments? Pretty cool. Sound effects? Perfectly serviceable. You may be noticing a pattern here. What rubs me the wrong way about Anomaly Agent is that it does everything right, yet utterly lacks the ability to leave an impression. This game takes no risks that matter. The story is nonlinear, but functionally your choices serve serve to push you in the same direction that the levels encourage: a linear path forward. There's very little player agency. Your dialogue choices matter more as a way to gain stats due to the emotion collection system than as a method of expression. You can divert the narrative in meaningful ways, but the paths that sets you on are once again linear. You fight through a level, you learn a new mechanic, you defeat a boss from the squad of bosses teased at the beginning of the game and you move forward to do it again. Maybe that boss is actually the real boss's second cousin and now you have to find the real one, but he runs away so you have to fight a different boss... But the loop remains stagnant. If you poke around a level, engaging with the movement mechanics to explore hidden corners, you find blank walls. The bosses hit the plain potato chip spot of being neither too easy nor too difficult-- their patterns are telegraphed and make sense, the way they get you to interact with the mechanics also makes sense... There's no crazy attacks that will haunt your nightmares, no elegantly choreographed dances and no BS or jank that completely ruins your experience. Everything about this game's design is so transparently by the book that I can't fault it yet at the same time fail to be enraptured by it. It has character. It has soul. I'm enjoying my time with it and I can't say I dislike it, but there's really nothing about it that makes me screech "You HAVE to play Anomaly Agent!!!" You know how indie games like Undertale and Star Fetchers have rabid fanbases who WILL NOT shut up about their games? Anomaly Agent is not that. If anyone ever bases their entire personality around Anomaly Agent I will be extremely surprised. So yeah, the game is fun. All the praise you've heard is justified but likely superlative. This game isn't going to be your next obsession. It's more like the quintessential essence of the concept of a "video" "game" distilled into its basest form. Expect a good time, but don't expect a surprise. -- I'll update this review if I end up playing more and changing my mind... But my (and your) time is likely better spent elsewhere. Despite that, I still recommend Anomaly Agent. If you think you'll like it... You probably will. Give it a shot.
