Souls like combat, Slay the Spire inspired map progression, Salt and Sanctuary esthetics... There are countless reasons to pick it up. In case somehow they are not resonating with you, it is still worth giving a shot simply because its a quality product made with high care and conviction.
Pretty good so far. Lots of enemy variety. On each run completion you unlock more bosses and monster encounters. Hitboxes feel good. Nothing really hits me that im like "WTF HOW?" I am currently on Difficulty 3 with a Save file level of 28. You get new weapons/Armor drop unlocks when you level up. There's also Boss Essence for starting gear choice unlocks. Fungi is the metaprogression currency. I completed my first full run in about 45 minutes using a Wand and Shield build. I was given some good perks early on that gave me crazy good survivability, like gaining 35 HP/MP at the end of a fight. This gave me lots of sustain for my first run, i'd have likely failed the run if not for this. My shield had an active ability that provided 35% damage reduction for some 30 seconds. An insane buff tbh. The game is constantly tossing random loot your way on each fight stage and it doesn't go to waste. You can encounter a Backsmith that smelts loot to upgrade your equipped loot. You can go crazy and Smelt EVERYTHING and upgrade multiple pieces of gear. My first time I raised my weapon to +2, armors to +1/2. The next time +3/4 and +3/4 on armors again and then my last encounter with a Blacksmith I smelted it all down and got my Wand to a +6. Anyways, beat the run and unlocked the next difficulty which added new encounters and bosses to the run. Enemy parameters go up as well, things like Damage, HP and even Enemy Action Speed. There's Challenge Maps and Legendary Challenge Maps. I've attempted 1 C-Map so far. It's a bit different from a normal run. I was give 3 options. STR, DEX or INT and then given a set of gear. I chose DEX and got DEX gear and weapons. Then the next area was 5 Perks from a chest (typically 1 in a normal run). And then a Prayer area for HP, MP or Stam increases. Finally the Challenge encounter which was a string of enemies with increasing difficulty. I failed it sadly.
This game has come a long way since it's early playtest days. Pros: - The amount of bosses. You finish the first playthrough and realise that's not all. Every stage has multiple bosses keeping you entertained. - Leaderboard. You finally defeat the run and feel accomplished. Only to find that some schmuck is already difficulty level 5. Then that makes you wanna play the game even more. - Legendary items. They are all unique and it makes you wanna upgrade chances of getting them. - And the usual variety of weapons and blessings. And the different vibes each map has. Cons: - None. The dev is my husband and I want to continue my happy married life thanks.
