Writing in the event someone, like myself, is on the fence about purchasing this game and or is not sure where to start with a PC war game. There. Are. Many. MANY. I did a fair amount of due diligence prior to buying one. is the game wego (we go for anyone not familiar)? Is it RTS? Is it a mix? How detailed? How complex? What level of tutorials or reference materials are available to help learn how too play? What is the history of the development team/company and their other titles? Then, ALL the reviews. I have working knowledge of maps and topography. Same with Cold War military history; vehicles; etc. Varying baselines of understanding save aircraft Aircraft ... SME of Cold War aircraft. Not a huge fan of RTS versus turn-based games. I will forgo graphics for depth; strategy and difficulty. I also prefer to learn through an equal balance of immersion and self paced learning. Think watch a tutorial and, then, play. Wash; Rinse. Repeat. If you have a BASIC understanding of maps ... I am talking BASIC understanding of N/S/E/W and elevation .... You have a BASIC understanding of simple commands, which would be common in many games not just a war game ... like Advance .... If you take the time to actually look on Youtube and watch a few videos, as they do exist .... And you do not even have an in depth knowledge of artillery or tanks or munitions or armaments ... No nothing of Cold War history and want to learn ... Never played a game anything like this .... But .... you are intellectually curious and want to start small / slow and learn how a game like this operates and you are curious about the time period and setting ... BUY IT All the reviews around the level of difficulty; the lack of resources to learn how to play; a lack of an intuitive GUI and user experience are incorrect. Tutorials are available on Youtube. There is an instruction book. This game is both RTS; we go and, then, allows a pause function The less vs more on graphics coupled with the slower/controllable pace is what someone new to the genre of game ( war game) is a massive positive Orders and issuing commands and play are very intuitive especially if you have a BAAASSSIIICCC understanding of a map; elevation; high ground; ground cover and line of sight. And you've looked at other titles and are just timid, as they appear (some are) just too much ... Start here. The game, while dated, is an AMAZING starting place. Command: Modern Operations, example, is a by product of a system used to train the military. It has a manual pushing 500 page. There's that. Then, some of the widely regarded gems in this space acctually need you to buy a much early offering of their system, which does have tutorials, to learn how to play their Cold War game. Their Cold War game comes with assumptions you just "get it," Or some of the games are RTS and do not allow a slower pace. Graphics wise and game play are incredible just at a hyper side. Some tutorials and, again, an assumption you have working knowledge of war games and RTS. I found someone with videos that resonated with me. He's dialed in and does a great job with micro learning. The videos are no longer than 10 minutes. Keeps it simple. I read the instruction guide. I popped into my first Scenario. 90 minutes later I had tactical victory. I was able to REALLY slow the game down. If needed, pause it. Read or review. Start again. Some of the reviews are just giving the game a horrific wrap. Games of this nature by design are not simple. If you cannot leverage search functions on Youtube or even within Steam, that's on the individual. This title is a fantastic starting point and I would recommend it despite the age and lack of graphics and this and that and this over contemporaries for a beginner or novice into the Cold War. Game is fantastic. If you're playing a game, like this, you accept it is niche specific and ... God forbid ... you might have to read or learn or become a tad self sufficient learning how to playy.

It plays more like Graviteam Tactics were you issue orders prior to the start of a battle. Decent amount of content to play around with. Campaigns aren't that in depth but still a lot of fun to be had if you want a more modern era of war game. Pretty easy to learn as well. Would recommend some you-tube vids to familiarize yourself with the functions.

Really loving Armor Brigade l. The more I dive into the game the more I want to play. The AI, I feel, is good. Even playing the same Battle Mod, the AI will present new challenges.

Ok so this is a unique game. I would run it and look at it for several days before I actually started playing. i checked online sources for any kind of how to's to understand the mechanics and there is very little content that helps but there is some. This is a very complex game and is not about beautiful 3d graphics. This is a Tactical wargame just like it says. Think of yourself as the General or Command observing a live update gods view of the tactical situation. You give orders to a unit they have to make it to the unit and the unit has to respond. Similar to when i was in the Army if you were carrying out action on orders and new orders came in you stop what you are doing and change your actions to follow the new orders. There is a degree of understanding of Military concepts that a player should have regarding multiple facets of executing a scenario/mission. Keys to this game: You need to understand Line of Sight which has a tooland at 70 hours in I grasped an understanding of the Line of Sight tool. You need to study the map you are playing on. You need to look at individual features of each square to understand what that square gives you regarding cover and mobility for instance. The more i play the more i find myself in the setup stage really digging into the map before the engagement begins. Then understanding the units and their roles. That's not terribly difficult but I am no aficionado . For instance foot infantry in the right situation is very strong unit. Understanding the units defefense capability, the terrain and line of sight play a big part. It seems there is a lot to it but thats seems to be the macro level focus items. So my first game I just ordered stuff around and got wiped out pretty handily. But soon I have some pretty interesting engagements. Then I got good ol' Chat GPT out and fleshed out a campaign in the Fulda gap Summer of 1988 where the Soviets made a push to reunify Germany and and take finland for the main reason to have something to do. It was pretty interesting. I allowed morale increases for certain things (mainly to examine how it would affect the game but im not sure). Anyway I am having a blast with the game and if you dig this kind of genre I think you will like it.

This is probably one of my favorite wargame simulation games besides maybe Combat Mission or Flashpoint games. This games wargame system is real time and it is complex but also simplified enough but it does have a bit of a learning curve it took me a bit to finally enjoy the game. Many people’s other reviews complain about the top down view and I think it fits this type of game very well it’s a complex wargame I don’t want it very simplified just for it to look nice like WARNO I want real communication and chain of command system and so forth and this game fits that very well with the top down view. Hardest thing I had to learn was how HQ CAS was used but figured it out it was very easy really and it helped with micromanaged on CAS. The game mostly focuses around armored combat so your base units will most likely be Mechanized Infantry while your main armored is of course a tank. So no paradropping no helo airborne infantry like Air Cav or anything of the sorts just straight armored ground combat but there is infantry still that of course have small skirmishes and so forth but most of your combat is done by APCs,MBTs,IFVs. With a hint of artillery strikes and close air support. Another thing many reviews for the review say a negative for the game is no special forces or special operations groups when that makes no sense? Why would there be a special operations group in a direct conventional battle? I mean you got your elite units like Jaegers and Rangers and VDV but I guess they mean Navy Seals and SAS or something when majority of SF like that in Cold War were trained for counter intelligence the most I can see them being is a scout unit but that’s it. Other than that I love this game a good 9/10 for me.
