This game holds the best fire emoticon which is what led me to it. I wondered why I had never heard of it and honestly the art and leading lady deserve a full-scale blockbuster style game. If you're good at stealth, you will excel in this version. I know several people recommend 2D games to learn WASD but for me it is not the best way. It holds a nostalgic feel much like 90's 2D games, but it does not feel like Mario where there are multiple ways to solve. The mechanics feel somewhat constrained and quickly grow repetitive while the new moves require more and more keys just to throw a firecracker. It was a fun challenge up until then. To complete this I would connect a controller and that just feels backwards to me.
This is awesome. A spin-off to Assassin's Creed that instead of being a full 3D open world exploration with occasional stealth focuses on full-on stealth 2D puzzles. Absolute blast to play for fans of platformers and especially stealth games. And yes, yes, I too couldn't get rid of my intrusive thoughts like "damn, what if it was a full fledged AC game? Shao is so awesome" while playing it and yes, I believe it would have a chance to be a pretty long lasting series if it wasn't tied to Assassin's Creed, but I still absolutely love this kind of spin-off series. Smaller games taking up some different perspectives and gameplay styles and marriages. And this one does everything competently enough to have a great time with it. Love it.
Assassin's Creed Chronicles China is a short 2.5D stealth action game that feels more like a first prince of Persia game than the usual open world Assassin's Creed titles. The game is all about moving through levels and deciding whether to avoid enemies, confront them, or take them out directly. Each level is split into smaller sections and scored based on how you play, with stealth giving the highest points. The game is linear and can be completed in just a few hours. The visuals are very striking, inspired by ink paintings and calligraphy. Bright colors show what can be interacted with or used for hiding, which helps in planning moves through the level. Moving around is smooth. You can climb, jump, run, and slide easily. Combat is limited, and since the game gives fewer points for fighting, stealth is usually the better choice. Overall, it is a focused stealth game with clear levels and challenges. It does not have the open world freedom of the main series, and upgrades or playstyle choices are limited, but it still offers a structured experience and a nice visual style. Note: As I played the Chronicles trilogy in offline mode due to some technical issues, I noticed a few achievement timestamp conflicts, such as incorrect dates like October 10th, 2007. It is better not to sync your game if you are playing in offline mode in the middle of a playthrough.
Never played a more 6/10 game in my life. I love the Chinese art style and the protagonist is pretty cool. I know some Chinese and understanding what the guards were saying gave me some real life giggles. Sometimes the gameplay is fun, sometimes it's frustrating. Unfortunately, the further you get in the game, the more boring and frustrasting the mechanics got. I feel like it's definitely worth the $3 it costs on sale if you have time to kill, but you could just as easily skip this one. Also, the ubisoft launcher can eat an entire bag of dirty ♥♥♥♥♥.
