pros - graphics are quite nice - fights are fast cons - annoying cocky teenager has main character - look like a teenager sci fi movie - fights are very boring because you fight 3 little monsters that you 2 shots, then you have to walk for a minute to the next 3 monsters I think it's just not for my age, but the game is kind of nice, I will try again later

Batora - A Fun Combat-Heavy Experience, But With a Messy Narrative I decided to leave a positive review for Batora after giving it some careful thought. It's a nice experience overall, but surely not without its flaws. Here’s a breakdown: Story: The narrative of Batora is a bit of a mixed bag. It’s deeply condensed and at times confusing. It honestly feels like something a 13-year-old might dream up. Furthermore, the story’s “big reveals,” which are meant to be twists, are really predictable. All this combined makes it so that, despite offering multiple endings (something I appreciate as an RPG and action game lover), it just doesn’t feel right. The game’s age rating (10+ or 12+) makes sense when you consider the tone - it feels like a bad shounen or shoujo story, with some undertones of ecology and atonement. Combat System and Mechanics: The real standout in Batora is the combat. It’s fluid, fast-paced, and thematically tied to the lore of the game. The difficulty system is integrated into the story, and you can really feel the impact of your skill in combat. The controls are tight, and the dodge mechanic gives you that extra sense of mastery, allowing you to be creative with your abilities. It’s a lot of fun, and you can tell the devs put effort into making the combat engaging. Aesthetic: Visually, Batora is stunning. The art graphics and overall aesthetic are a big draw. If you've seen gameplay footage, you’ll already know the game looks gorgeous. The soundtrack complements the experience well, and even though the narrative falls short, the visuals and combat are enough to keep you hooked. It was surprisingly good in this department. Duration: It is small and won't bring me back for the New Game+ The world feels small, and there’s no real exploration or side content to dig into. Once you complete the main story, you can jump into New Game+ to unlock the other endings or make different choices. However, the main game only took me 7 hours to finish (maybe 5.5 if you rush a lot). That’s pretty short for a $20 game, and while I snagged it on sale for about $5, I wouldn't necessarily go back for a second playthrough. There’s just not enough to explore beyond the core story, and it’s not worth the effort of redoing most of the game to go for the fights you missed due to the path you took. Final Thoughts: Ultimately, Batora is worth checking out if you enjoy solid combat with stunning visuals, love hexagons, and don't mind narrative confusion. The short duration and complete lack of exploration will turn off some players, especially those coming from action RPGs like Diablo and similar games. But, if you can grab it on sale, it’s a fun ride for a few hours. If you’re in it for the gameplay, aesthetics, you’ll have a good time, especially if you manage to catch it at a discount.

I am not quite sure where all the hate in the reviews here comes from. I had fun with this game so far. I got it on sale for five bucks and the game already made up for that with the two hours of fun I had with it. And I expect to have a few more. I would compare the game to Bastion or Children of Morta: A little action adventure some people might consider an ARPG, although that is a bit of a stretch (as it is for Bastion and CoM). The combat is snappy and fun, the character customisation is decent (but nothing to write home about as to be expected for an action adventure), and the story is, well, it exists and is arguably the weakest part of the game. The game really shines at its game mechanic variety for bosses, puzzles, and general combat. But that all is beside the point of this game. Like Bastion or CoM, it is one of these little games which captures you with their serene atmosphere and polished world. There is always something to discover, a new puzzle mechanic, a new boss mechanic, or just some story tidbit (at least so far). When you just want a game to relax with, ideally played on the couch or a handheld device, this will provide a few hours of fun. When you are a hardcore ARPG monkey, who shudders at the thought of less than a quintillion layers of character and combat customisation, this is probably not the game for you. And the story aficionados, well, they better go and read a book and stop pestering us in the comments here ;)

Overall I enjoyed my play through. I thought for a casual player, it was challenging enough where you die a couple times, but duality in the combat is a must. I know now that this game has different endings, but I am not sure I would want to replay though the game to see each of them. Overall a good game, but I think the in between cut scenes could be better with the character art. I feel like they should not dim the non speaker so much because they change expression in reaction to what is being said, so there for the not animated chat seen because a bit of a drag.

It's an okay Game, I think. The Artystyle is pretty neat. Combat is not as interesting and fun as I hoped it would be. Character constantly gets stuck at edges of objects. The "Platforming" has some fun sections but no Jumping also takes away a lot of fun that could be had in the Movement. The Protagonist has emotional meltdowns about the death of Characters she met literally 10 minutes ago. I'm all for Characters showing emotions but it's a bit over the top in this game. The Writing is also too rushed, the World building has no time to bloom and develop. Everything just happens too quickly, leaving no chance for the player to connect with any character in the game or any consequence from any decisions. I wiped out entire Tribes and made the decisions casually without a second thought. But all in all, an okay and sometimes fun little game. It's short though, keep that in mind if you expect a lengthy game or something to immerse yourself in.
