[Potential spoilers ahead][potentially dork threatening language ahead][not potential but real human made review ahead] - I see a lot of people giving this game hate for bad scripting and characters and praising the combat system which really just goes to show you that some people who review games are objectively bad at video games and don't finish games before they rage-quit-review. The review: Characters: I think the story telling in this game is adequate, the main characters are tolerable maybe even likeable sometimes. NPCs are rational, reasonable, real. But admittedly all are kind of shallow and naive sometimes and I did not appreciate being called "little bubble" so much by a mutant penguin I hardly knew. Combat: I do think the combat is kind of a weak point, There's nothing wrong with it but with an ARPG title it's pretty uninspiring is all. It's made the game too easy, if you can just work out the jank hit boxes and nature switch mechanic, which although has it's quirks the rune-purchasing for character to level up is a nice idea but it's pretty one-dimensional as all it does is meager stat boosts and add a few moves and features to your moves that really don't do all that much to impact combat. Just boost damage and roll cooldown and you can pretty much beat anything with good enough reaction times. Choices Matter: Does it matter? maybe, Avril seemed pretty depressed and regardless but it does have narrative impact I think which is nice, but it definitely feels like it's just a mechanic to make you play NG+, which I don't mind per say but again just didn't feel... necessary? or the right game for it maybe... HOWEVER it did help shape Avril and immerse into the role a little more which worked in it's favour well. The Puzzles: If you like puzzle games, this is not the game for you. There is some that make you think a little but all in all they are rudimentary, uninspiring, boring and annoying. I have nothing good to say about them, Well the pinball one wasn't unfun but that lasted 10 seconds. BUGS/Game issues: The most frustrating thing is the bugs. Of which there are very few but very stark ones e.g. I couldn't complete the gem riddle to open the way to Mila because first time the gems didn't activate and after a restart they kept resetting after I hit the 4th (emerald) So I was forced to open it the other way. Another is enemy trapping, because the enemies are real objects they can movement lock you, you can't even roll, there is moves that allow you to push them but they are available usually once, maybe twice, per combat. TLDR: On the whole I think it could have been a great game but with the bugs and the combat it's lacking a je ne sais quoi... maybe just depth and polish. Worth money, I'd say sub tenner though. Will scratch the rpg itch but it won't cure the sickness. 6/10

Batora is a winner. Female protagonist, orange and purple glow magical powers, beautiful alien landscapes. The plot pacing really kept me hooked, the skill tree is cool, there's a lot of info but was easy enough to figure out. I got stuck at a boss fight, so I quit? Would be neat to add a skip feature, the bosses are much higher difficulty than the rest of the game which is mostly narrative. I was already using the "cheat" for non penalty ammo type. Might try again but either way it was worth it.

I'm recommending this game based off the context of everything around the game as well as the game itself. This is an indie studio which needs to be encouraged because what they made is really nice given the circumstances, but sadly I do have some grips with the game that I must voice. So by far, the best aspect of this game is the story and how it handles it as well as the themes that are discussed throughout the game as a whole. The story hits home really hard, having both the aspects of being personal as well as a big over arching story affecting the world as a whole. The performance of voice acting also sells the story and the emotions really well albeit sometimes the writing isn't as flattering as other times but over all I would say it's really nice. This game also features "choices" with heavy emphasis on consequences but I would say these consequences doesn't impact me as much as they thought it would. The game-play is kind of simple but satisfying at times when you land all your abilities and the whole combo which does feel bad-ass but sadly the ceiling for this game is very low at best. The variety in the "builds" also I don't think it exists at all and if it does, it's very little that I haven't been able to notice it but I don't think that was a big focus on the developers part because as mentioned the story is what's carrying the whole experience by far and it does most if not all the heavy lifting for driving the appeal for this game. The art style is also another aspect that's really nice and timeless which is really appreciated and fits the theme of the game, with cliche but very nice drawn and realized biomes and characters that I think are really unique in their own way. And the soundtrack is another aspect that's really inspiring to listen on its own with its highs and lows with how fitting it is for every section of the game and the emotional bits too. So I in spite of everything I said and seemingly dunking on the game, I did like it for what it is and did roll credits to see how my choices would shape the ending of the characters so I would recommend it still, maybe I would say on a discount but for its base price, I think it's worth to check out given it's not that hard, sometimes frustrating "platforming?" sections but also doesn't overstay its welcome with the time to get to the end of it with a satisfying conclusion as well as the ease for going for another endings or seeing what would happen with other choices that you didn't pick the first time around.

pros - graphics are quite nice - fights are fast cons - annoying cocky teenager has main character - look like a teenager sci fi movie - fights are very boring because you fight 3 little monsters that you 2 shots, then you have to walk for a minute to the next 3 monsters I think it's just not for my age, but the game is kind of nice, I will try again later

insanely good game and an insane story, extremely polished game with very rare bugs, multiple endings and choices truly matter. the game looks great and flows REALLY well, the voice acting for all the characters is surprisingly good, except for 1 (rose, she sounds like ai), very underrated. with that being said, I have a couple of complaints, there aren't many rune options from what I encountered which makes this particular area feel undeveloped, the story is kinda complicated, it can feel underwhelming for some but, towards the end you will understand everything, and all will make sense. the gameplay loop, while polished and flows perfectly, it gets very repetitve, as enemies become tankier and tankier, facing the mobs gets increasingly tedious, which feels like a cheap way to stretch out a rather perfectly lengthed game IMO! thats all I can say about the negatives of the top of my head, I never expected to be interested in the story, let alone be attached to it at a certain point, props to the devs for making such a great game 8/10 the game is rather short in play time, around 7 hours for one ending, which imo you dont need to play more than once cuz by the time I finished I was bored of the combat, so ill just watch the other endings on youtube, with that being said, even if the game is really short, its worth its price, but fortuantly for us (not for the devs saddly) the game isnt the most popular so its getting discounts very frequently.
