The game I have the most hours in. It is, without a doubt, one of my all-time favorites.

Battle Brothers is once of the best games I have ever played. I always find myself coming back and playing for hours on end, enjoying every part of the game's progression, the story you build for yourself and the complete freedom you have around the game. To start, this is game is the epitome of Sandbox. You spawn in and then you're given freedom to do whatever you want to do that the game offers. This mainly begins with contracts, recruiting more 'brothers' and building your mercenary company but can also mean you want to explore and chase loot in ruins, fight in the arenas, operate as a trading company or raid and pillage those caravans for the goods! The game was clearly made with love for sandbox and difficulty, with a truly brutal turn-based combat system that rewards good builds and battle tactics, and punishes stupidity like no other game. Battle Brothers is a hard game, no doubt but once you win battles flawlessly, the sense of accomplishment is second to none. You will have hardships and losses with your victories, but in the end, the point is not about beating the game but the story that is told of your company. Which leads into my next point: The Brothers of Battle Brothers. Each character you recruit is unique, with skills, stats and traits that make them unique, but also with excellent backstories that are extremely varied; You don't just have one backstory for the butcher, but many, and they change how you might view them, as well as the traits they begin with. Each background and traits might change your mind on someone who has reasonably good stats, or on the other hand you might take the risk of conflicting backgrounds if the stats are too good to pass up - Beware the double Hedge Knight idea, they are not friends. The game also makes you not only root for your company but individual brothers themselves, and you'll have your favourites and your fodder to save your favourites from certain death, because death is a very pivotal part of this game. You will get attached to brothers who in one moment, are thriving, and the next, are dead on the ground, permanently. But you will also see those brothers you once expected to keep around become heroes who build the story of -your- game, as once again, there is no main story, only what you do and what adds to the replay ability of this game to become endless. I think this is the main reason why Battle Brothers moves beyond the average game that does perma-death, sandbox adventure, is that the origins you can play, the uniqueness of theme and no handholding / intro quests adds to the part that you are in a living, breathing world that goes on without you. Each playthrough is a story, most that will end in your death or need to retire, but some might go on with great victory. For me, this game is a 9/10, and made a 10/10 with the Legends Mod, which I highly recommend you get after one playthrough of the base game. The DLC are excellent and none of them are a waste of money or not needed, as they add alot to the game and build on the initial vanilla, not invalidating it or overhauling it. Legends Mod goes a step further and adds alot more, but can be a difficulty spike for newer players. This game is for you if you like: - Medieval Fantasy games with a darker feel - Harder, turn-based fighting reliant on strategy and tactics - Sandbox games where you make your story - A guarantee of replayability - A mix of dark horror writing and humour that spices the game up Lastly, if you pick up the game, take all the time you can with it. Read the background stories, read the pop-ups and take in the world you are in. And remember, losing is fun.

Best game ever made. I have over 1000 hours in Battle Brothers, and I still keep coming back. Very few games manage to stay interesting for that long, but Battle Brothers does it effortlessly. No matter how many campaigns I start, there is always another company to build, another disaster to survive, and another story to create. What makes it so special is how perfectly all of its systems come together. The combat is brutal, tactical, and incredibly rewarding. Every battle matters, every mistake can cost you a beloved brother, and every victory feels earned. The game constantly forces you to make difficult decisions, and that tension is what makes it unforgettable. But what truly makes Battle Brothers stand above everything else is the atmosphere. It has personality, grit, and a world that feels alive without needing flashy presentation. The soundtrack, the writing, the events, the backgrounds of your men, the injuries, the permanent losses — it all creates stories that feel personal. You do not just play a campaign, you remember it. It is also one of the rare games where failure makes it better. Losing a veteran brother hurts. Watching a campaign collapse because of one bad fight hurts. And yet that is exactly why the highs feel so good. The game respects your intelligence, does not hold your hand, and rewards patience, planning, and adaptation. After more than 1000 hours, I can honestly say this is the best game ever made. Not because it is the biggest or the flashiest, but because it delivers something almost no other game can: endless replayability, meaningful challenge, and unforgettable emergent stories. Masterpiece.

People think this is a Strategy RPG. They are wrong. This is a Crisis Management Simulator. You start with hope and gold. Five days later, you are managing PMC 'The Bums' - a corporate entity where a hired peasant costs less than the bandage used to save him. This game taught me that heroism is a liability. I developed a doctrine: "Lucrum ex Nihilo" (Profit from Nothing). Don't buy armor. Loot it from dead enemies. Don't save soldiers. Amortize them. If a recruit survives three battles, he earns a name. If not, he was just a 'walking shield'. 10/10 Asset Management.
