May 2026
The game is very fun with a strong core, though I can see why some people are divided on it. The game took me about 20 hours to beat, and I did a good chunk of the sidequests on the way. The art style is nice, and the color palette really pops. The biggest aspect that will determine if you like the game is the battle system. The game is turn based and uses a timeline where you determine what actions are performed and when. There are also four quadrants that units can place themselves in. After you place an action on the timeline, the enemy units then place theirs. You have four crewmates that can each take an individual action, or have them pass their actions to each other if their relationship is developed enough. After all of the actions for a round are determined, then the round plays out. There's a lot to think about when planning the entire turn, and it can get somewhat confusing at times if you don't keep track. There are some lite RPG elements in the game in the form of personal traits and skills. They're mostly minor buffs with the occasional strong skill showing up as you raise each character's proficiency. You also have to manage some resources like fuel, mood and fatigue. Characters can go through mental breakdowns, epiphanies and even die if battles go poorly enough. It's not the deepest system, but it works for the most part. I suppose the weakest aspect of the game is the story, which is just OK. Its not bad, to be clear, and the plot overall makes sense. I really didn't find myself bored going through it, but it lacks compelling characters, since your crew is a bunch of randomly generated characters by default. There is a character customization option that you can use to make your own crew, and it's not too shabby. But don't expect anything deep. The game is worth the price, at least in my opinion. I didn't really have many complaints throughout. I know that might not be the same for everyone, but I had a good time and can recommend it to any one who wants a fresh turn based mecha game to sink their teeth into.

Interesting term based mechanic where you select on a timeline. The attack animations need voice acting to get a real feel for it. The teammates are generated so you can manage a team so I get that they couldn't voice each generation without it feeling odd, but it would really add to the feel for the game.

This game has the potential to be something truly amazing. As it stand right now its very bare bones as far as real depth goes. But it is by no means awful in its current state, it just lacks the right aspects I think to keep your average player hooked for very long. I'd say at the very least take a chance on it now and view the money you spend as an investment for a hopefully great future return. Now I am gonna break the review down in to things I like and I feel it does well and things I feel need either further improvements or should be seriously considered added in by the time of full release. What I like and feel game is doing well at so far. 1. The art direction for character models is very charming and cute* (*objectively, rather then fluffy sparkly adorable kind of cute). There appears to be a fairly large asset pool for the models already, allowing for a lot of design combonations. 2. The general art design of the towns/hubs, drawn npc characters and overall underlining aesthetic reminds me of the sort of the heavily stylized skater punk street pop art from the early 2000s, Jet Grind Radio readily comes to mind, among other things. 3. The music, fits well with the tone and aesthetic of the game. 4. The cockpit camera moments are a fun dynamic and it cool to see what the respective crew are doing at their post in response to the actions you have order them to have their mecha do in battle. It really does pay good tribute the early mecha anime in that regard, and makes even a low stakes battle feel far more epic then it probably has any right to be and I'm okay with that. 5. Devs actually listen to community feedback and have already made changes to the game to response, some of which weren't even originally planned for the game but they did it anyway. They could have just snubbed us and stuck purely to their original vision of the game with the hope that the majority of the playerbase would just fall in line after a bit. But they didn't they decided the requests were with in reason and have been working hard to make them a reality. I can not stress how big of a deal it for them to have acknowledged our voices. I mean they did ask for feed back but sadly some dev teams treat such statements purely as a formality and have little interest in actually listening to the player community, its great this team isn't like that. Things I think need more work or serious consideration in being added. 1. Currently there is no real driving story and considering development is still underway, I'm not going to be to critical of that fact right now. You are dropped in to the world and aside from the fact you need money to keep your airship gassed up and your crew paid there really is nothing calling you to rove out into the world. In fact, unless you take a bounty, you won't run into any enemies at all on your, making the world feel rather empty lifeless, despite visually it looking like it full of stories to tell and random encounters to have. Having a higher goal, then go to Settlement B to make money, only for them to send you to Settlement E cause they can't offer you anything at the moment, isn't exactly a very compelling main quest line. 2. This ties a bit into point 1., but there is no central character, your whole crew is essentially both potential MCs and red shirts all at once. With all crew members being technically expendable and there for not plot important there once again is sense of limited personal stake in the world. It would be nice if you could designate a character as the a main, and then actually have a plot line for them to follow with all the other crew you can pick up being there as supporting cast. 3. [Has been addressed by the Devs, whom found the requests of the player community reasonable and acted upon them] 4. More depth to crew interactions, after all the time I sunk into the game already it clear there are multiple personality types randomly assigned to crew, being able to see those play out a bit more deeply would not only add the to the charm but also give players a bit more investment in the crew's overall well being. Never underestimate the value of given players reasons to form emotional attachment their characters, and bonds. 5. The world the game is set in, is bursting with potential, but it needs that potential harness, it needs more life, players should be rewards for exploring and there be chances for combat outside of bounties. To have such a vast world map and most of it just be there for show, makes the long distances between settlements seem unjustifiable if there is nothing that can be potentially done along the way. Seriously, with lack of anything to do outside of bounties the lack of a fast travel between settlements only draws more painful attention to how much of the world is currently just going to waste. So do hope the devs breath more life into to world cause it looks like it has many stories to tell outside of the settlements. Conclusion. If you are still reading, congrats on not having the attention span of a 4 year old and my deeps thanks for putting up with my ramblings that I hope were at least a tiny bit insightful. As I mentioned near the start, I do recommend the game, but buying it now really should be viewed more as an investment, and while I'd like to believe the devs are motivated enough to push on without pre-release money being tossed at them, knowing people are willing to drop money on the product even in its current state could prove the confidence boost the devs might need to really throw their hearts and souls into delivering an amazing final product.

I would highly recommend in the current state, as the game has a lot of potential. Delivers a really fun turn by turn gameplay. And has that "2010s 3D cartoon" aesthetic that I really love. What I'll say under will be a bit harsh, but I insist: BUY THAT GAME AND PLAY IT!! We need more games like this, we need to support people making games like this. And considering how many great things there are in that game already, the road to improvement isn't impossible at all. But right now the game feels a bit rough, lacks polish (some UI bugs, textures appearing way too late). But I mostly think the game lacks UX - Please give us an option to restart a fight after losing it. Technically we can do it by using auto save and quitting the game. If you want to make it "assume your consequences" there's already ironman doing it - I'm quite puzzled on the "can't cancel action". I understand It's because that you don't want the player to readjust depending of the enemy's action. But I still think there should be a way to cancel it. Maybe accessibility option? - Current naming of elements is a bit confusing. - Localization in French is a bit eh, "Joueur Unique" - There's a lack of information giving in some specific part of fights. For example it's borderline unreadable the difference between ammunition and the stock of ammo left - Also about the fact the player has to choose a specific area, betting the enemy will be there. But the enemy can just "follow" the player. - Why not let people customize their first crew? As It seems you have a quite indepth character generation that works well, imo. - I think the onboarding is.. dreadful. I would like some context. Some "why are we here?", a little story thingy. I know it's hard to make it as your crew is generated to make "stories". But making a red line story based solely on making a new crew would be already cool. For example, Jet Lancer which has a rather similar macro loop did a fairly good onboarding. - And, speaking of it, I would really like for 1.0 a proper intro cutscene. I want to be hook in the game and the first 10 minutes are rough. Overall, really cool game which has the potential to become a great game. Buy it.

Had me eyes on this little gem ever since i saw the first trailer, it's not often we get something really original This game is a love letter to Anno and GAINAX in general, less the NGE / Gunbuster side of it, more like the wacky Abenobashi / Gurren Lagann / FLCL GAINAX stuff You get : - Action point turn base combat with timeline manipulation very much anticipation and reaction involved, - A resource and economy management overmap with hand picked difficulty contracts based missions, - Mobile homebase (i.e. travel cost) with readily available Mech outfitting, maintenance and customization - Crew management involving personal skills of course but also health, moral, friendships and rivalries All of that's somehow pretty reminiscent of Star Renegades (a personal favorite), Darkest Dungeon and Battletech all at once, packed within beautiful visuals and amazing little cutscenes right out of the FLCL Production Committee As far as Early Access goes so far, well it should come at nobody's surprise that it's not polished yet, e.g. : - The UI is sometimes hard to read within those beautiful illustrations, and often lacks sound cues - The dialogue interface + illustrations are pretty underwhelming compared to the quality of the visuals everywhere else - Repetition of the same cutscene when two of the same enemy types are involved, bringing more variety with just changing the camera angle would be appreciated if only for better player action feedback Very much looking forward to this one hitting 1.0, has all the elements needed for a long entertaining gameplay loop and it's now almost only a matter of how in depth they get by release time
