Really cool game. First and foremost, it has bears. Second, controls are very responsible and movement is just fun. I like the weapon level-up aspect, upgrades, platforming sections and secrets. Humour is really good, it's like a combination of an absurd, dark and dry humour and it delivers well! A bunch of references to popular movies (Saving Private Ryan, Men in Black, Rocky) made me laugh more than a few times. I also enjoyed the boss fights, simple in design, a bit of platforming involved to dodge projectiles, good stuff. The main thing I didn't like is how shotgun seems to be waaaaay stronger than any other weapon, so I felt pretty discouraged from using other 20+ weapons. Also, it didn't help that while shotgun levelled-up very fast, every other level up seemed like a chore, it took me a ton of time to level-up two other weapons, and in the end they were way worse than shotgun, so it felt like a waste of time. Also, there are in total maybe 12 enemies that are repeated over and over? It gets a bit boring with that, but it's not a big deal. Definitely recommending to fans of fast-paced FPS games and / or bears. Be a Space Bear™

Bears in Space is an unapologetically absurd, fast-paced first-person shooter that doesn’t take itself seriously for even a moment — and that’s precisely where most of its charm lies. Developed by Broadside Games and published by Ravenscourt, the game throws players into the hyper-colorful, irreverent chaos of space combat, only with one peculiar twist: you’re half-man, half-bear. That odd premise is emblematic of the entire experience — strange, unexpected, often hilarious, and surprisingly competent in its core gameplay loop. You play as Maxwell Atoms, a space pilot whose DNA is accidentally fused with that of a bear named Beartana. The result? A bizarre hybrid character who delivers one-liners and growls in equal measure. While the setup is deliberately ridiculous, the game uses it as a foundation for everything from combat mechanics to story beats. The writing leans heavily into absurdist comedy, with plenty of sci-fi parody, slapstick humor, and fourth-wall breaking quips. While some jokes can fall flat or feel repetitive, the game never loses its commitment to being entertaining above all else. It’s the kind of humor that will either win you over early or wear thin, depending on your taste — but it’s consistently in line with the game’s tone. Gameplay-wise, Bears in Space takes cues from classic arena shooters and modern action games alike. Movement is fast, fluid, and vertical, with dashing, double-jumping, and wall-jumping becoming second nature after a few levels. You’ll often find yourself dodging intricate projectile patterns, dealing with swarms of robotic enemies, or platforming through trap-filled corridors while trying to maintain your momentum. Combat is where the game really shines. The arsenal is expansive, offering over two dozen unique weapons, each with its own behavior and quirks. Some fire lasers, others shoot bubbles or explode into bees, and most of them have alternate fire modes or evolutions based on how frequently you use them. This variety keeps encounters interesting, and experimenting with weapon combos is encouraged. One of the more creative mechanics involves transforming into your bear form by collecting honey pots scattered throughout levels. This temporary transformation grants you massive power boosts, melee abilities, and area-clearing attacks. It’s a welcome change of pace that adds an extra layer of strategy — saving your bear transformation for key battles often means the difference between surviving a massive ambush or restarting from a checkpoint. Enemy variety helps keep things lively, with dozens of robotic foes, each with distinct attack patterns and weaknesses. Boss battles are another highlight, often featuring multiple stages, environmental hazards, and just the right amount of ridiculous flair. The game world is surprisingly large and diverse. From neon-lit space casinos and abandoned military facilities to floating jungles and cosmic temples, the environments are colorful and well-realized, packed with secrets and interactive objects. There are optional substories, hidden collectibles, and offbeat side activities that range from absurd mini-games to short narrative detours. These distractions are not just filler — they help flesh out the world and reinforce the game’s offbeat personality. Whether you're baking a cake for a robot birthday or interrogating a vacuum cleaner about a missing sandwich, the game always finds ways to surprise you. Visually, Bears in Space embraces a campy, cartoon-inspired aesthetic that matches its irreverent tone. Character models are exaggerated, explosions are full of over-the-top particle effects, and every corner of the game world feels like it’s been dipped in neon paint. It’s not technically groundbreaking, but it’s consistently stylish and confident in its presentation. Audio design complements this well, with energetic music, crunchy weapon sounds, and expressive voice acting. Some performances can be grating after prolonged exposure, especially if you’re revisiting levels, but for the most part, the cast seems to be having as much fun as the player. Accessibility and difficulty options are another area where the game deserves praise. Players can fine-tune their experience with a variety of settings — from how much damage they take and deal, to toggling platforming aids and adjusting enemy behavior. It’s clear the developers wanted to make sure the game is playable by a wide range of people, whether you’re in it for the story and spectacle or chasing the most challenging runs. That said, even on standard settings, the game can become chaotic — sometimes to its detriment. Visual clutter, especially during large fights, can obscure enemies or objectives, and the screen occasionally gets overwhelmed with effects. There are a few rough edges worth mentioning. Some levels feel less inspired than others, especially in the back half of the game, where a few areas lean more on combat repetition than clever design. The humor, while mostly enjoyable, can be overused in some places, with certain characters repeating lines or gags that don’t land as well the second or third time. Also, performance can occasionally dip during more intense sequences, particularly on mid-range hardware. While these issues don’t ruin the experience, they can be momentary distractions in an otherwise well-paced ride. Bears in Space isn’t a game trying to revolutionize the FPS genre — it’s a game that wants you to have a blast, laugh a little (or a lot), and maybe lose yourself in a universe where logic takes a backseat to fun. For players who enjoy fast movement shooters like Doom Eternal, Shadow Warrior, or even the chaotic energy of games like High on Life, this title will feel like a natural fit. It combines tight combat, wild creativity, and a deep commitment to nonsense in a way that few games manage to sustain. If you’re willing to embrace its weirdness, Bears in Space offers a surprisingly rich, satisfying, and memorable experience that punches far above its weight — even if some of those punches come from a bear’s paw. Alright game. However, weapon upgrades take forever, some areas are bullet spam hell and the humor isn't always my cup of honey tea because it defaults to shouting and XD/troll humor. Other than that, it's pretty solid for a 3 dev team.

If you're into the antics of the original Ratchet and Clank games on the PS2, then this is the game for you. Would recommend for an unBEARably good time. Comedy is great, very slapstick, some high brow, caught myself on a few occasions being like "wayment" Combat is great, but predicable, also comparable to R&C. World evolves as you progress and doesn't get boring or stale. Bosses are creative, and even play into the comedy overall. I'm on my second play through to complete all the tasks. But I can't sit down and play it all in one go because life gets in the way. Easy enough to pick up where you left off without having to remember what you were doing, which is nice. Wish they'd work on a sequel.

A lot a fun. The humor is pretty good. Finding all the secrets and stuff is also pretty fun. Never felt bored along the way.
