Unbox is a collectathon in it's core. This is what the game is so you have to come into this game with a gotta collect them all mindset. It's a 3d collectathon "platformer" game, and while I couldn't care any more about the story, and the gameplay is a bit janky overall I had good time with this game and would be interested to see more of this. So how's the game feels like? Well it's kind of weird. The game is essentially split into 3 + hub worlds, each repeating on the collect everything idea. In the game you are a box, meaning you spin like a box, jump like a box and... well... be janky like a box. You cannot come into this game expecting precision platformer or anything related to platforming with timing. Because in it's inherit idea, a box is not consistent unlike other player models (such as a ball). That means jumping can send you flying and can also just give you a tiny bump. So how the game counters that? well it basically gives you "unpacking" jumps. Basically you get 6 extra jumps to perform and they boost you high in the air and... are 100% consistent. So you spend one of those jump points to jump higher. Now since it's like 6 jumps like that you can get a LOT of distance + height out of this. And this is why the game world is big, the "walk" speed is slow but that's because you're meant to be jumping leaping all over the place to move fast and vertically. Well so you just can jump 7 times? like... that's kind of a gimik. I would agree with you if not for the cool idea of how about using one of those unpack points don't return on landing AND they are part of your health. Yep you heard that right, jumping is "costly". And it costs you health, so if you have 0 jump points you are stuck with regular jump + one hit dead. Now you'd think that would make the game hard but dying in the game doesn't have any real downsides besides being teleported to the last checkpoint. Which honestly at some points is a real advantage, since sometimes you just want to respawn. That's why the developers included respawn button you can hold. So yes, nothing here is deep, it's as shallow as a puddle. So you can't come into this game thinking this will be anything challanging. This is more of a really relaxing collectathon that allows you to jump a lot and mess around. There's "quests" but it's really pointless for me to describe them as they are more akin to a "mini game" missions more than anything. So to end my thoughts. It's a cool concept, 7 jumps is not something you see every day. I had fun with it since I enjoy collecting stuff even if it's mind numbing. And I enjoyed relaxing with the game. But you have to set your expectations correctly to enjoy this game.

A criminally underrated old school style platformer with a surprising amount of heart.

A charming and simple collectathon game about happy-go-lucky boxes running a postal service while also stopping some mean boxes from taking over the world somehow. The story as you can tell isn't that impressive but they were going for a lot of charm in a simple 3D platformer. Its not terribly long and the gameplay and music is pretty decent for its time. It does lean more towards multiplayer content which I feel is rare for 3D platformers, even back then but it does have some good points that keep it from getting too bad.

A good choice for fans of collectathon-style games. While the game is short and the story rather limited, I found the platforming and traversal enjoyable. There are definitely better options at full price, but I can't complain as I grabbed it during a 90% off.
