As a massive fan of the berserk series, I do recommend this. But I would wait like I did for it to go on sale because it isn't worth the worth price. solid game overall and of course this doesn't touch a few sensitive subjects from the manga. I did enjoy running around as Guts hatching and slashing through all my enemies. Also a berserk style dark souls or elden ring game would be perfect.

So, I waited until this game was finally on sale to buy it, and because of that I managed to pick it up, along with all the DLC, for $40. The first time I started the game, a window popped up informing me that the game would run better if I used "windows 7 mode," and gave me the option to activate it, which I did, seeing no reason to do otherwise. The first map after the tutorial devolved into a psychedelic nightmare of graphical errors that did not render the game unplayable, but did give me cause to wonder why this game and its DLC are like $100 when not on sale. I'm not aware of the game's history, what consoles it was available on in Japan, what other studios might have worked on/adapted it, etc, but it's obvious that it's an old game, and I think its price should reflect that. For context, windows 8, which obviously succeeded windows 7, was released in 2012. This game is on its way to being one of the ones that won't even run on a newer machine without addons or something like that. So Koei Tecmo, if you see this, the sale price that I just paid should probably be what this game costs normally. I'm giving this a positive rating and keeping the game because I like Berserk obviously, but I'm advising anyone who reads this, no matter how much you like Berserk, not to buy this game unless it's on sale. As far as how it plays, it's like any other Warriors title, with massive hordes of endlessly respawning enemies that you have to fight through as you accomplish objectives. Interspersed throughout at relevant moments are cutscenes from the 2012 anime. Characters from Berserk are faithfully rendered, including minor ones, and there's a lot of lore-appropriate content. Koei did everyone the favor of naming the special objectives in each mission "Behelits," for example, though I'm not really sure that makes sense in the context of the lore of Berserk, I appreciate the effort, and the sentiment behind it. So Behelits in the context of the game are a precious thing to strive toward in addition to being creepy, mysterious objects. Because I knew what to expect both from Berserk and the Warriors series of games, all of this is perfectly satisfying to me. But come on Koei Tecmo. You got an old game here, that realistically because of how niche it is, never really was relevant in a big way to begin with, except to fans of berserk, and to a lesser extent, the fans of your Warriors games. You can lower the price at any time. But maybe being literally the only game in town means they can set their price. The game works for now, anyway. But get it while it's on sale.

Compared to other weird Warriors spinoffs like Gundam or Hyrule Warriors, the Berserk franchise feels like a match made in heaven. The original work is LITERALLY about one dude with big sword killing hundreds, so its hard to pick a better fitting genre. It plays and looks great, with the only problem being that it becomes a bit repetitive after some time. But thats something inherent to the Musou genre as a whole, so if you know what you are getting into, you'll definitely have some fun. I was a little skeptical at first about this game using scenes from the movies, but after a while, I started to enjoy them. Firstly, because the Berserk movies used so much 3D graphics that it kind of matches the game. And secondly, the original story is so good and captivating that its just great to relive it once more. Now, in a game form. A little sad that there are no OSTs from the anime, but I guess thats a problem with almost any anime game adaptation, and there’s nothing you can really do about it. Considering there are only three Berserk games in total, and this is the only one available on modern platforms, its a musthave for any Berserk fan
