Fate/EXTELLA LINK is the sequel to Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star. Mechanically, it improves on its predecessor in nearly every way — except the story. Graphically, it looks great. The soundtrack is strong and the voice acting is good. The musou-style gameplay feels far more refined from the previous game. More variability in attacks, mystic codes (items), and enemies make it a more enjoyable gameplay loop. However, the story is incredibly short. I fully completed it in about 25 hours, which was disappointing considering I primarily played this for the narrative. The virtual world on the Moon (SE.RA.PH) faces a new threat, and Charlemagne takes the role of central Servant this time around. While Charlemagne is an interesting and charismatic character — and I do like him — he simply does not hold a candle to Nero. His arc lacks the emotional weight and gravitas that Nero and Altera carried in the previous game. That said, the expanded roster is fantastic. Alongside returning Servants from the first EXTELLA, we get fan favorites like Astolfo and Scáthach making their debut in the Extraverse. The variety in fighting styles is a major highlight and gives the game strong replay value from a gameplay perspective. Pros: Vastly improved gameplay and combat flow Strong soundtrack Large and varied Servant roster Cons: Very short main story Narrative lacks the emotional depth of the previous game If you're wanting to see you favorite Servants in 3D and beat up some enemies, this is an easy recommendation. If you're here primarily for a deep Fate narrative experience like the first game, temper your expectations. While the gameplay is improved across the board, Fate has never thrived because of mechanics alone. It thrives because of its story — and that’s where EXTELLA Link feels surprisingly thin. Score: 8/10 (Compared to Fate/Extella The Umbrel Star's 8.5)

I believe that another fate game like this would be better than Fate/Grand Order. Most of my favorite characters are there and the fighting is pretty nice, the story is short but nice and simple.

Fate/Extella Link is basically nonstop anime chaos in the best way. You jump into huge battlefields, mow down hordes of enemies, and swap between flashy Servants who all have their own over-the-top moves. The story is light but fun, especially if you’re already into the Fate universe, and the combat is super easy to pick up. It’s not the deepest game ever, but if you want fast, stylish action and a cast full of fan-favorites, it’s a really good time.

If this company was smart they would make more games with astolfo and remove those other characters <3

I'll cut to the chase, if you're looking for some mindless Musou-style mashing fun with Fate characters and are wondering if you should get Fate/EXTELLA first, don't bother and just get this. While EXTELLA Link is something of a direct sequel the plots of the games are almost entirely standalone and do not factor into one another. In truth, EXTELLA Link is pretty light on narrative in general. This one improves upon the first considerably. You're not locked into using a single character for the story paths, there are more characters to play as, characters now have a variety of equippable skills, taking over areas does not require you to fight a tedious amount of fodder before the named enemies show up every time, stuff like that. It's what you're expecting of this style of game. And you can play as Astolfo.
