April 2026
This game is so good that I actually took the extra effort to 100% the game by completing every piece of content the game has to offer. I think this game is much more of a Metroidvania compared to the second game in the series which is much more linear and guided, and it can get confusing for new players but I assure you the map will come in handy and does a great job at guiding where you'll need to go. It also points players at optional items that you can pick up which will make Jason's MA stronger. Some bosses in this game has three health bars which might frustrates some players due to the illusion on bosses' tankiness but if you actually manage to make use of all the main weapons and subweapons you can basically deal enough damage to deplete the bosses' health quickly, and yes some bosses have multiple phases which require you to go from MA fight into top down fights and if you die in any of these fights you'll have to start all over again. The game assumes you've played both BMZ 1 and 2, and that you're already familiar with the mechanics so they throw at you these multiphases fight which will test all of your technical skills from the previous games. Personally I really liked it, because it forces you to understand the bosses' attack pattern rather than just brute forcing your way through like in previous games. One character that I'm so annoyed with is Leibniz; they can't stop talking crap about Jason and always seem to disagree with what Jason is trying to do and the game tries really hard to paint them as this seemingly hateful but kind in actuality character but ended up making me hate them more. This game is such a great conclusion to the entire trilogy and I'm saying that despite knowing that there might be a fourth game which I will be the first person in line to play the game for sure. But if there isn't any I think BMZ 3 has done the trilogy justice as the cherry on the cake.

An excellent side-scrolling, 2-D platformer that has the most refined gameplay of the trilogy but story and level design take a hit in quality. Pros: - Pixel Art - Combat - Soundtrack - Level Design (Mostly) - Bosses - Enemy Variety (Mostly) Mixed: - VRV System - Epilogue (Nice callbacks to previous games + bosses but overly long and level design is a bit hard to understand) - Updated Collectible System (Shield pick-ups clog the map up with collectible icons + the VRV system makes the map more confusing than necessary) Cons: - Character Designs - Story For positives, this game clearly has the best gameplay for the 3 Blaster Master Zero games, full-stop. Jason is agile as ever with a dedicated dash, his toolkit refined down to distinct weapons which mostly all have application in different circumstances, and good sub weapon variety as usual. Bosses and enemy variety, while relying heavily on BMZ 2 and 1, are good as well. Level design, while I generally like, the VRV system added to this game makes it more confusing than needed. The VRV system in dungeons on foot was really not needed as yeah, you have the option to not use it but there’s no reason not to. When you do use it, you’re encouraged to skip most of the enemies and rush through the level so while I get what the devs were going for, I don’t feel like it’s that interesting of an addition to the game. However, it does look nice from a visual perspective. As for criticisms, while I already spoke about the VRV system, the story is seriously something drags in the game. In 1 and 2, while I wasn’t that big of a a fan of the story in those games, they’re usually only an issue near the end of the games. 3 tries to make it more of an emphasis and I feel that it brings the game down more since it hardly makes any logical sense. Also, your traveling companion in BMZ3 is more-often-than-not annoying, rather than someone I grow to respect as it would have been better to have no one in the backseat than that person, in my opinion. Lastly, the true ending is somewhat vague and while it tries to be unique in how to get it, I prefer how 2 handles it. Overall, despite questionable character designs, a story that tries to do too much with too little, and some new ideas that don’t add too much to the overall game, the fantastic gameplay, fun bosses, good soundtrack, and solid levels give a respectable send-off to the trilogy. 8.0/10.

PERFECT GAME, BEST GAME ON THE TRILOGY BY FAR. To summarize, compared with the first 2 games, this one has the best bosses, best common enemies, best soundtrack, the best weapons and a fast travel system that helps a lot, back tracking is better and the story is also better. They even fixed area E (the plant area from the Blaster Master Zero 2). I can't describe how much I loved this game, seriously, it's perfect. What a great trilogy btw, you deserve a 10/10 on this one Inti Creates.

Fun game. It is bit more challenging from the other two. They dropped the annoying pre-req of finding everything to get the true ending. You do have to have 2 rings and hit L/R button when the screen "cracks" to do actually finish the entire game.

Everything you could want from a Blaster Master game, really. Jammed with cute call backs and clever design tweaks, along with a new combat system that's quite fun to mess around with. Top down dungeons are repetitive but fairly easy to breeze through so it's not a big deal. And the true ending! The aggressive anime-isms (and difficulty ♥♥♥♥ man I suck at this game) from the second game's finale are cranked all the way up, extremely cool. Leibnez <3
