It's a short but really fun metroidvania game, the game plays very smooth and satisfying and the secrets in the game make it all the more better. The only issue I had with this game was with the indications for some of the bosses but after a while you're going to win, the fights aren't neccessarily that difficult. I have only 100%'d the game, I still have to get Danger Cat, Sequence Break and Speedrun. I hears Speedrun is really tricky though as the timer is really tight so keep that in mind when trying to beat this game. Edit 6/08/26: I beat Danger Cat and it was genuinely a really fun challenge, I was 25 minutes too late for getting the speedrunner achievement mostly because I died a ton, I kept forgetting about phase and the underwater levels are really finnicky because of how the cat accelerates and decelerates. I'll be working on it though. Edit 7/08/26: I would've gotten Speedrun but I died 3 times in the final stage of the game and it kept sending me back so far that I genuinely lost 10 minutes and just quit, It was really annoying. Edit 9/08/26: I got speedrun, I did kinda cheese it at the end though. I died 3 times at the final FINAL boss in the game and got mad and I closed the game but it ended up sending my run back 2 minutes and I was able to clutch the run, I probably would've won regardless if my timer got sent back so I'm just going to say that was legit I don't want to rebeat the game again. (this took me 4-5 tries)
This game is unique but at the same time suffers a lot of issues that other metroidvanias suffer from in terms of pacing; which doesn't make the game bad but limit towards a more niche audience. I do like the fact the upgrades so far give you the ability to use them to shortcut around the game, combining what the bomb jump and missile function does into one attack. Also the water level isn't as insufferable. However; going from your mech to something more limited in tools again but instead underwater is a little; eh, which feels odd to say but again I think it feels more odd here because it's a metroidvania versus something like Crash Bandicoot where it's a from level to level format. I don't feel like exploring the map and going back over areas has much value compared to other metroidvanias I've played.
Gato Roboto is a metroidvania that is short, but offers a charming and enjoyable experience. It has cute art direction and nice soundtrack. The mechanics are easy to use and combat is simple. The story is lovely, easy to follow, and doesn’t complicate itself. Overall it’s a fun “mini-metroidvania” that is great if you want to start the genre.
If you want to get into the metroidvania genre Gato Robato is the perfect starting place. The game feels good to play, the combat is fun and you can beat the game in around 3-ish hours. I liked the I was never complexly lost like because the always is guiding you down the right path and the zones are smaller and more condensed as well. Overall amazing game and I'm glad I finally complete a metroidvania game! 8.8/ 10
