On one hand, this is the best port of Blood you will find. Much more accurate and faithful than Blood: Fresh Supply was. This is the best way to experience this Build engine classic. On the other, Atari and Warner Brothers are charging a whopping 30 bucks for it. They had a rebate going for owners of Fresh Supply, but only as a preorder bonus. Even as Monolith lies in ruins, WB finds ways to ruin their legacy. Wait for a rebate before getting this. It's a great game, but not worth the price you're being asked for.

Okay, this is a tough one. One one hand, the people who are saying "IT"S THE EXACT SAME THING AS FRESH SUPPLY" are wrong (more or less). On the surface, its the same game because it is the same game, but the entire game from damage scaling to movement to explosions to fire damage is much less janky, more consistent, and more balanced in Refreshed Supply. That being said, I am autistic when it comes to Blood, and I have played over 200 hours of Fresh Supply, and for someone who has maybe played the first couple of episodes on Lightly Broiled or Well Done might not feel it, which it completely fair, but the fact that this is straight from the source code makes this leaps and bounds above Fresh Supply in every conceivable margin. But...... The price is absolutely ridiculous. There is no way to spin that around and make it a positive. For die hard fans, the price is fine, especially if you drunk ordered it and don't care if you're gonna be homeless behind the YMCA in 5 years, but for someone who already owns Fresh Supply and isn't a die hard fan, there isn't a reason to buy this at the price it is at. For returning owners, the $10 "upgrade" was a little steep, but doable. The fact this is the pure uncut legit super pure source code port is enough effort to justify it. However, bumping it back up to... what was it... $25.00 if you already owned the game is highway robbery. If the game was, hell, let's say $25.00 flat rate, with the coupon for existing players dropping it down to $10.00 ($15.00 in a pinch) would be a much better soft sell rather than that price raising ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ they pulled. I can't remember what I paid for the Death Stranding upgrade from the standard version to the Director's Cut, but I believe it was $10, and the version has more content, more levels, more weapons, more CONTENT. That is very sensible in my eyes. What Atari/WB/Night Dive did was not sensible. There is the arguement between die hard Night Dive fans and the average thinking man that goes like: "Well, this isn't Night Dive doing this, this is all the greedy publishers doing this!" I can buy that to an extent, but handwaving this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ away and championing Night Dive as the little guy is not the way to talk about this; they are a part of this, too. They are a company just like WB or Atari, granted a less evil one, but there shouldn't be this blanket of White-Knightness in the discorse about the price. The price sucks, no matter what. Plus, there are things that I wish could be tweaked in this version. Being able to see the stats for a level (kills, secrets, time) on the map and not as a distracting and ugly HUD option seems like it should be a no brainer. And, I admit this is very minor, not being able to name your saves sucks. When you are trying to speedrun certain sections on Extra Crispy-Pitchfork start and you have a laundry lists of saves at different parts of a level and NOT being able to name them is a huge pain in the ass. Also, not shipping this with Death Wish is a very odd misstep. I know they promised it down the line once the last episode is finished, but just include it with Marrow and the base game, then add the last episode in later. With all that said, I am super happy this exists, and it is the definite way to play Blood, but they fumbled every element of the marketing and the price to the point where it is hard to defend anyone in this circus. At least they kept the Civvie 11 achievement. If they changed that, then there will be and should be blood in the streets (pun intended)

If you own Fresh Supply already, this probably won't be worth it. 90% of what's in here is bug fixes and QoL changes. There's also Crossplay so you can play with people regardless of platform, a bunch of cut levels in the vault (more than I expected), and 2 community mods officially included (1 available right now, other coming later). It's definitely better than Fresh Supply thus far, but not enough for previous owners or users of other source ports to go out of their way for... unless you're like me and actually want all those juicy QoL changes I guess. Edit 12/06/2025: i probably should have mentioned I bought this with my loyalty discount that put the pre-order down to like $10. It was low enough for me to dive in and see if there was anything else included they didn't mention on the store page or FAQ and whether it was good by any metric. I definitely found what improvements are there to be well worth it, but I also would not recommend this for the full $30. It does also come with the original DOS version included if you want to play that instead or run it through a fanmade source port. I cannot speak on fanmade source ports much as I have not played any yet at the time of writing this. My only experience playing Blood prior to Refreshed Supply is playing Fresh Supply... in various pre and post patch states.

Blood is one of the best boomer shooters of all time, and the best game utilizing the Build engine. I will never forget downloading the shareware version from CNET in the 90's. No other FPS game has engrained itself so deeply into my brain, aside from DOOM. Now, it has finally received a remaster worth purchasing. Redone cutscenes, better scaling options, a new scenario (including Death Wish next year, so two), in-game subtitles, 8-player co-op (all done utilizing the original source code, finally).... pretty much a ton of stuff that should have been included with Fresh Supply, and thanks to Atari, wasn't. If you love 80's horror movies and boomer shooters, than I highly recommend picking this up. I will give one caveat.... Blood is considered to be a hard game due to the amount of hit scanners, so.... just throwing that out there if difficulty is a problem. Even on easy, the game is harder than most other shooters from the same era. Also, the amount of negative reviews from people big mad they didn't get this for free, is asinine. Number one, this is rebuilt using the original source code, unlike Fresh Supply. They also offered this as a 10 dollar upgrade for owners of Fresh Supply all the way up to release. Considering this was Nightdive finally being allowed to remaster Blood the right way, I'd say that's a steal. Lastly, to the people big mad this wasn't a free update like id has been doing, this also isn't Microsoft and the Blood ip has been a licensing nightmare for a good while.... this was never going to be something that was free. On top of that, most of them can't even blame the correct party. Nightdive had nothing to do with the pricing guys, come on.

A lot of people are leaving negative reviews simply because they didn’t get a “free update” from Fresh Supply. That’s just not how it works. This version was rebuilt from the ground up using the original game’s source code, while Fresh Supply was reverse-engineered. On top of that, Atari/Warner Bros. wouldn’t allow NightDive to release it as a free upgrade, so they did the next best thing and offered it at a discount. Maybe do a bit of research before review-bombing the game. As for the game itself, it runs buttery smooth—honestly, better than Fresh Supply. I do wish they had polished the UI and menus a bit more, similar to what they did with Doom 1 and Doom 2. But overall, it’s more Blood, and I’ll happily support more Blood.
