8 / 10 - game still nails the survival horror atmosphere and has memorable creepy moments all these years (like the Lost Soul introduction cutscene). I would recommend the game for nostalgic gamers, Doom collector fans, survival horror enthusiasts, and video game history fans. For those used to a faster paced shooter game, I would not recommend. I dock the BFG version several points due to making the environments somewhat brighter/more accessible and allowing the flashlight to be equipped while shooting as the only option. It would've been great to preserve the "original 2004" flashlight experience as a togglable setting instead of removing altogether. It would be a true remaster instead of what seems like a "correcting the perceived wrongdoings of Doom 3." The 2004 Doom 3 flashlight didn't make much sense in a futuristic setting but it was more intense/nightmare inducing having to decide between flashlight or weapon at critical points. In 2026, the game feels like a forgotten entry in the Doom franchise but there is no denying its place in video game history. Doom 3 was a major mind blowing technologically leap and I will always respect Doom 3 for what it did and how it made me feel at the time. It is truly one of those games that opened your eyes to the possibilities in gaming and I will never forget that.

[H1]So terribly underrated[H1] despite what lots of people say, this game is fun and IS a good Doom game. Doom3 can be separated into 2 parts, The start of the game is trying to be a horror game, which it does a very good job at. The rest of the game is a fast paced FPS just like the past 2 games. A lot of people will play through 2 hours of this game and give it a bad rating for not having the classic doom style. The game itself is very well made and I enjoy the redesigns of the demons. This game has not aged well however, there are so many better doom games to play that this feels unnecessary. Also due to age the game runs horribly. I still recommend playing the BFG edition though.

A Surprisingly Well-Preserved Classic DOOM 3 BFG Edition is a fascinating time capsule that packages one of gaming's most controversial chapters with all its expansions and a visual face-lift. While it famously divided fans upon its original release for trading blistering action for atmospheric horror, this edition proves that the core experience has held up remarkably well and remains perfectly playable today. https://youtu.be/FzfboJtHYMU The game's greatest strength remains its incredibly dense and oppressive atmosphere. The UAC Mars base is a masterclass in environmental storytelling, where shadows cling to every corner and the threat of a demonic ambush is ever-present. The BFG Edition enhances this with improved lighting, higher-resolution textures, and a more streamlined armor-mounted flashlight, making the journey through the claustrophobic corridors feel more modern and less frustrating than the original. The combat, while slower than the franchise's pedigree suggests, is still satisfyingly visceral. The shotgun's roar and the plasma rifle's hum are as impactful as ever, and the strategic dance of fighting in near-darkness retains its unique tension. However, the game's age does show in its somewhat repetitive level design and enemy AI that can feel simplistic by today's standards. The package is also fantastic value, including the expansion Resurrection of Evil and the original The Ultimate DOOM and DOOM II. Game stands the test of time remarkably well. While showing its age in some aspects, it remains a tense and atmospheric journey that's absolutely worth experiencing today. A classic that still delivers solid, moody shooter action.
