Short & Sweet Review I'd never heard of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill before this game, but I sure as hell wanted to know who they were after. Slaps and Beans manages to capture the feel of that old school, classic comedy from an era before most of us were born that I immediately identified and felt nostalgic for it playing, even though nearly their entire filmography is before I existed. It's clean humor based on bizarre situations, an entertaining opposites-attract buddy dynamic, and sound effects that keep you laughing from start to finish. I played through it in one sitting of just over two and a half hours with a friend and we were giggling like schoolgirls throughout. I'm sure that we missed many of the references for the true fans of these two, but this title served as an excellent experience to pique my interest in what they created. The gameplay of Slaps & Beans is decent, nothing more and nothing less. There are several mini-games of sorts to mix things up along the way, like a top-down race track, a Battletoads like side-scrolling racing section, and a hot dog and beer segment, though the majority of the game is similar to most other beat 'em ups. The controls are responsive and feel fair, though some enemies tend to feel a bit too bullet-spongy when you're fighting dozens of them at a time. The characters play different, which is a nice touch. Bud is your brute with slower strikes but harder hits and greater strength that lets him interact with certain elements of the environment, which includes picking up fallen foes and smacking their allies around with them. Terence, on the other hand, is more agile with the capability to unleash dizzying flurries and climb or swing around the scenery at will. There is nothing all that ground-breaking, though there are certainly worse brawlers out there as well. All in all, a solid game that you'll likely have fun with if you enjoy old school, classic humor and side-scrolling beat 'em ups. The mechanics don't revolutionize gaming by any means, but the entire adventure ends before it goes on long enough to overstay its welcome. I recommend it if you've got a good buddy to pull in for a few good laughs.

Slaps and Beans 1 is a love letter to classic Bud & Terence films—punchy, funny, and a bit wobbly. If you watched Bud Spencer's movies, you'll find this game too familiar. I've had so much fun playing it, I can't recommend it enough. The soundtrack fits perfectly with the theme of the game. Fortunately for us, there's a jukebox with all the tracks in the main menu for our hearing pleasure.
