Game is currently in active re-development with a lot of improvements and changes from the first iteration. It's exciting to watch this game grow and the devs are constantly updating the new version. The old version is still playable, but it's slowly becoming obsolete with every new update.
I saw a video of this game and thought it was amazing although I'm not a big RTS guy. Read some of the reviews and the one from Danger Desperado specifically kind of put me off a bit. Went into the forums and talked with the dev and ended up buying it to try with a buddy. Happy to say it has so many customizable options that you can play it how you want. It definitely didn't feel like any other RTS I've played and was a very unique spin from a sort of city manager mixed with troop management and then the attacking. It was pleasantly really well done and smooth. Experienced no crashes or bugs and basically if you want to spend a few hours playing with a friend or a few just clearing out a city of zombies this is a very fun original RTS take. Definitely will be playing again with the sliders adjusted and some of the other maps (we played on the older first map).
For all the negative votes, you didn't read the important pop up note on the right side of the main menu stating to play the 'Legacy Version' if you want to "grasp the direction the game is heading". The version that is uploaded right of the bat is the new game being built from the ground up, so No, Not everything that shown in the trailer is uploaded yet, they are working on civilians next, but there is still a lot more to go. Like adding the Aircraft Carrier functionality and much much more. This Game Gets 2 Massive Thumbs UP from my vote, cannot wait to see what the Full Release looks like. EDIT: Dear God There is An Hovercraft on the Aircraft Carrier. It Fits 59 troops for a land assault on the island. DO YOURSELF THE FAVOR AND TRY 'LEGACY'. sure its a bit buggy, but holy hell the potential is beautiful for the New Version
TLDR: Buy now? No Buy in the next six months: Maybe Buy in a year: Yes It's an early access game it's had a rough development cycle and only really in the last 1.5 years and have the devs actually started refining the game. choosing to rebuild the game from the ground up, moving to a new engine, re doing every model, asset, and game mechanic as a result the game is incredibly barebones. Ive played the old build of the game and I see the vision the devs have the game and I believe they can do it but it's going to take quite a bit of time and the devs have admitted as such in their roadmaps and many weekly dev streams. The devs listen and do care! They host Q and A sessions with their community every week and even play the game with their community. I have seen many indie developers merely boast that they have a strong heart for their community but go months with no updates or no progress reports or sadly just take the money and run. Halcyon winds is different, it's a small team that share and report on every little detail of development no matter how mundane it is to the average person they stream it, and they ask for feedback on whatever it is their working on. You can literally vc with the devs every weekend in their server or so at any time.
