If you loved the first game, Chaos on Deponia brings back the gorgeous hand-drawn art, sharp wit, and wacky humor you expect. The concept of Goal's mind splitting into three distinct personalities (Lady, Spunky, and Baby Goal) is brilliant on paper and leads to some hilarious banter However, the game suffers from severe "middle-episode syndrome" • Pacing Issues: The "Three-Goal Marathon" takes up nearly 70% of the game. Persuading all three personalities to return to Doc turns the middle act into a bloated, padded checklist that grinds the plot to a halt • Classic "Daedalic Moon Logic": Unless you are playing Harvey's New Eyes, Daedalic just loves obtuse puzzles. You will absolutely hit points where logic goes out the window, forcing you to use a guide or randomly rub inventory trash against every pixel on the screen • Convoluted Plot & Lore Holes: By the final act, the narrative buckles under its own weight. The franchise's macro-plot starts making zero sense (if Elysium is blowing up Deponia anyway, what was the point of the expedition in game one?). To top it off, the final climax devolves into an incredibly messy, confusing shell game of swapping remotes, cartridges, and bodies
Another amazing installment. I had a better sense of progress than in the first game, and I think puzzles were better in general. Dialogs, humor and story stay on point, with a new setting keeping some known characters to feel fresh but familiar. I didn't like the ending as much as the first one though. But yeah, amazing franchise, I'll definitely play the next games soon.
Deponia 2 (or Chaos On Deponia) is in every way an improvement to the original Deponia. The sequel was made by German developer "Daedalic Entertainment" in the same year, making the story feel like one whole. In this game, I feel like they improved on everything, be it animations, cinematics, the writing and even the jokes! The art and music are as usual great. The 1st act plays on the Floating Black Market and is implemented very well in my opinion, much better than the town in the first game. Even if there were multiple questlines and dozens of items, they didn't interfere with each other much. This also made me pick up a pen & paper and write everything down to keep my thoughts and all locations in mind, which helped a lot in navigating and solving puzzles. Guess old tricks do the job in classic point & click games.. While the game has some weird and annoying puzzles, there are far less of them than in the first game or any other point & click game I've played so far. Quite manageable. Only ones I will complain about are these;: Moon logic: adding Expired Pills to Bucket with bait? Why? There was no hint or reason. Just trial and error method? Trial & Error: The first Donna conversation puzzle with her ticks, not really a puzzle. Also a very buggy segment, luckily it didn't touch my playthrough. MORE Trial & error: The Resistance plan requires the player to choose the CORRECT dialogues or fail and repeat whole process!! Each of the options is worded the same with little to almost no difference, yet for some reason they are not accepted. It has to be that one exact combo that you can only guess through trial & error. Very annoying, feels like it was added in for padding. A very bad timing in the story for this puzzle. - All puzzles functioned as intended except the damn Earth Platypus Egg puzzle that was broken! If not for the SKIP button, game would have softlocked! I am thankful the devs included the skip button but it's ♥♥♥♥ to lose out on gameplay.. Perhaps fix it instead of adding only skip option? The only TRUE flaw of this game was how picking an item from the inventory required clicking at it 2-5 times! I checked everything from my side, mouse, etc, all good. So it's a damn bug. Generally speaking a great improvement on the original. The underused character Goal has become the attention it deserved in 3 different facets, Lady Goal, Rebel Goal and Ba-Ba-Ba-Baby Goal! Each one cool in their own right. I thought that it would be resolved by the end of act 1 but that it would be the driving point of the whole game was actually surprising but welcome! Overall, a very good classic German point & click game by Daedalic Entertainment which kept me intrigued throughout unlike the first one.
