Deponia was my first game in the "point-and-click" genre, and it literally hooked me from the very first minutes. The story turned out to be engaging and at times even touching - closer to the finale I even felt a slight sadness because of some plot twists. The humor deserves special attention: it is absurd, lively, and truly memorable. Many characters look like “walking memes” with their own unique traits, and this is what largely shapes the game’s distinctive style. And of course, Rufus - a charismatic, self-confident, and inventive in his own way hero, who is genuinely interesting to watch. If we talk about the plot in more detail, in the first part it feels like this is only the beginning of a big adventure. The events take place on the junk planet Deponia - a world completely filled with waste. The main character, Rufus, dreams of escaping from here to a better life, but all his attempts fail again and again. However, this is exactly the point where everything starts to change: the story gradually goes beyond the hero’s personal ambitions and touches the fate of the entire planet. The details are revealed during the playthrough, so I’d rather not spoil the experience. Visually, the game looks very pleasant: the art is done in a classic style, and the locations are crafted with attention to detail and atmosphere. Almost each of them seems to tell its own little story, while the animations and cutscenes look lively and natural. The gameplay is typical for the genre: you need to explore locations, collect items, and use them to solve puzzles. Overall, the tasks are logical, although sometimes they can make you think - I did use hints a few times. But this is more a part of the experience of such games rather than a drawback. I would also like to highlight the musical segments: at certain moments, characters appear who literally sing about the events taking place. These songs turned out to be very atmospheric and easy to remember - familiar melodies quickly settle in your head and bring a smile every time they play again. To sum up, Deponia is a game that truly deserves attention. It left me with very warm impressions, and after completing the first part, I immediately want to start the sequel to find out how this story ends. Why you should or should not play Deponia What is Deponia? Deponia is a point and click puzzle game where you play as Rufus who's just trying to get out of all this junk! Quick Pros ✔ Interesting story ✔ Memorable characters ✔ Good world building ✔ Well written dialogue ✔ Satisfying progression system ✔ Unique mechanics ✔ Easy to learn controls Quick Cons ✘ Sometimes there is no clear direction on what to do, however this is a puzzle game and that is its purpose is to make you think. Initial Thoughts: -"I like this tutorial, its very interactive." -"Rufus is such spirit animal vibes." -"STOP NOT THE SCREWS." Beginner Player Friendly? I would argue this game is very beginner player friendly, they have a clear tutorial that is easy to understand and the game play is very straightforward other then maybe the occasional complex puzzle. Game Play: The game play is all about searching your environment and finding, combining and solving the small puzzles around to help you progress through the story. Graphics: The graphics honestly remind me of cartoon games from when I was a kid and I am living for it. It's refreshing and looks animated by being hand drawn. I honestly love the looks of this game and I think that it would be able to run on lower end systems. Community: From what I have seen there are so many guides and tutorials on how to play and if you get stuck on puzzles. For the most part everyone seems super friendly!! How long can you play? This game has hours of content and the story is very rich and exciting. My Opinion: In my opinion this game is honestly so full of character it makes it super enjoyable and exciting at every turn. The puzzles keep it interesting and I think if you are looking for a story rich puzzle game maybe you should give this game a try. Overall Review ★ 8/10 - Story rich puzzle game where your first objective is to find some socks. ✘ Active Online Multiplayer (meaning people will interact with you in game) ✘ Family Friendly (meaning friendly to all ages) ✔ Solo Playability (meaning you can play by yourself if preferred) ✘ Cross Compatibility (meaning you can play with friends through other consoles.) ✘ In-App Purchases (meaning you can buy things after buying the game i.e DLC's) ✘ Controller Compatible (meaning you can play this game with a controller) Enjoyed this review? TL;DR – funny, frustrating, but in a good way I really enjoyed Deponia, mostly because of how dumb (in a lovable way) Rufus is and how ridiculous the whole junk-planet setting is. A lot of the fun comes from just clicking on everything and reading the dialogue, because the game keeps throwing jokes at you even when you’re just trying to combine trash with more trash. The point-and-click puzzles can get pretty weird sometimes, and yeah, I definitely had a few “how was I supposed to think of that??” moments, but pulling off the right item combo after being stuck feels super satisfying. The characters and voice acting also help carry the game, so even when you’re confused, it’s still entertaining to stick around and see what happens next. Games also often goes on a 90% sale if you are really low on funds, though arguably, this game is worth even at it's full price. If you like classic adventure games with lots of dialogue, dumb plans, and trial-and-error puzzles, Deponia is a fun time — just be ready to overthink some solutions.

Charming point-and-click adventure with witty writing and a playful world. Puzzles are clever without being obtuse, and the characters carry the humor. If you like classic adventures, this scratches the itch nicely

Decent game, but not for me. The art and humor are nice, and the gameplay is solid if you’re into point-and-click adventures. The story’s okay too. But honestly, I got bored after a while. Just didn’t keep me interested. Might be fun for others, but it didn’t click with me.
