Unique concept, slightly awkward execution. Don’t go in expecting Stalker. The premise of this game is Slavic Ocean’s 11; throw together a team of cookers to raid the Chernobyl power plant against a Russian PMC and save your waifu. Time-space wormhole plot devices and horror elements are sprinkled throughout. It’s an eclectic mix of NPC management, survival, FPS and base building, where you’ll be constantly combing the same levels on daily missions and story quests until you have the team, equipment and intel required to pull off the final heist. Collectively the game stands out as its own thing and has enough plot mystery throughout, but it’s a shame that none of its individual mechanics impact enough to be compelling.

Although I'm positive about this game, I still can't recommend it to everyone. I think, without certain experience, you won't get it completely. And please don't get me wrong, I'll explain. Let me tell you something about a morning in my childhood (I know, WTF STFU boomer, whatever). It was like any nice spring Monday of the village that reminds you of the coming holiday when you already started your countdown to the end of the school. By that time early raspberries in the garden were pink and almost eatable - not a matter to worry about for a raspberry fan. I wiped off the morning dew, did my usual fruit grazing and went to school. By the time I returned around noon, all the leaves of our walnut trees in the garden became curled, turned yellow and started to fall. By the evening all the trees fell into a leafless coma for weeks, like during winter. My mother told me to not to eat anything from the garden, not even after washing the veggies. Acid rain, chemical pollution, crop dusting helicopter failure that emptied its complete load above us to minimise the impact - you name it, all happened before. The biggest petrol processing factory in the country was just 20 kilometers away, everything was possible. It took more than a week that the Chernobyl nuclear accident was officially announced and admitted. We lived in an another country but way too close. The following year I showed early marks of some sort of autoimmune disorder, still unknown to this day. I got allergic to raspberries and most of plants. Ten years later my joints started to degrade, giving me hell that returned in waves. Still there is no reason to complain as despite the pain I can still walk and move freely. Regardless, every 5 years something starts to go wrong and it does in weird ways. As of 2025 I'm still alive, still can do my thing that I'd call a rather happy life - but I live it with permanent health issues and without a thyroid gland. I am lucky but a lot of people around my age passed due to weird diseases that have no reason to attack young people. Good friends among them. I must know why. So, a game or a film that includes documentary elements of the place where it all happened has a special meaning to me. Not necessarily a positive one. It just opens a zone where I can wonder about things and people gone. Stalker (the game) did not provide it to me. Chernobilyte did. The game itself feels a little undercooked here and there. It has many small sides considering game mechanics, stability and graphics. At places it looks absolutely jaw-dropping and film-like. At other places visuals look fuzzy and dated. The game could catch the atmosphere quite well, though. It delivers a little different play from what you would suspect as it is rather some sort of tactical game with RPG / exploration / base building elements where you work on a long-term plan of a heist and make decisions on the way that affect the final mix towards the conclusion. It is also a sort of investigation that leads you through a sci-fi story where you can also take a peek on the life behind the iron fence. It is not a HUGO award winner story but still makes sense and it's more than a lot of sci-fi stories do these days. Nothing to complain really. I have to mention here that the Russian voiceover is awesome. The English, not so much. I can understand both but if you can't, choose Russian with subtitles. It is better even if some of it is overacted. As for the locations, they are either interesting and limiting in a way. As a whole it works I think but if you enjoy game mechanics rather than atmosphere, others from the genre (for example Fallout 4) can give you a better experience in my opinion. So, as for an outro: Chernobilyte has merits as well as flaws. It definitely will not work for everyone but I absolutely recommend it for people who are interested in the story of the most severe nuclear accident in the history. I'd recommend playing it after watching the HBO TV series and documentaries. The game can add other details and explanations about the whole dark age of its kind that fortunately gone by today and hopefully will never happen again in the future.

▪ This is really beautiful game. Visuals are amazing, regardless of post-apocalyptic genre, it reminds me background of Metro-game series. Supports pre-compilation (Preparing necessary resources in advance before start the game), so you can play smoothly even on low-spec PC. Story is about the Main character Igor and his companion being sent to investigate a scientific facility that studies Chernobylite, but they're injured due to step in of Black Stalker. Igor, whose memories of the past are still uncertain, Sets up a shelter and prepares a plan again. Begins to find clues about the past and new companion by following voices of his wife Tatyana that hears, and begins to regain his memories. Relationship between companion can improve or worsen as you progress through each storyline. I'm trying to maintain good relationships for ending. I recommend you if want to focus on the story or are interested in great visuals and farming.

"Igor... it's not the end. I won't let it end like this." This game, as something I had no idea what to expect from and had lowest of expectations, was quite a roller coaster of emotions. The game starts quite confusing and it keeps such tone all the way to the end, making you constantly question your theories. Graphics and atmosphere is really fitting and smooth, along with music being the strongest part of the game. Base building element was a pleasant surprise, crafting weapons, modifying them, managing base structures and resources like electricity, air pollution, bunk beds, food and free time amusement. Meanwhile you hunted for clues, allies and new discoveries once per a day throughout various locations of Chernobyl until you and your crew were ready for a final blow. Weakest part of entire game was the combat, it was so shallow, empty and basic. Enemies kept shooting you through foliages, trees, buildings, obstacles, no matter what, you got constantly being pinged with bullets with steady frequency no matter of your position or amount of obstacles between you and your enemy. Stunning enemies? Forget that, they will 720° trickshot you even when taking full auto burst from AK47 in the head from behind, being bulletspongy eating your entire mag and still calling it a successful day doesn't help much either. Variety of enemies kinda lacking as well. Weapon behavior is rigged with bugs and don't feel good at all. Doing main mission objectives always result in one ally to approve and other disapprove toward your decisions changing their relationship toward you, decisions that often really make no sense or feel forced just to be there, you can adjust ally relationships toward you through mind-bending machinery... That uses annoying long-a$$ combat scenarios in VR, yay... Game and lore definitely overstayed it's welcome as you progress through, bonus points for conveniently making you be able to alter your decisions through time-space anomalies, not really costly. Overall the game shifted from good to annoying times frequently, the finale being the proper and pleasant climax to the lore closure. + Atmosphere/Graphics + Day/Night progression system + Base building + Graphics + Music + Lore + Skills leveling + Ending - Entire combat - Weapons - Relationships management - Ally quests and dialogues becoming quite annoying and too much - Silly decision making... - Half a$$ed and messed up saving system ___ 6 from 10 samosiels recommend this game.
