Completed all main and sub missions, nothing more to play. Very fun and enjoyable game, It's recommended to play if you enjoy to construct building piece by piece, you'll feel a strong sense of accomplishment while completely constructed each of building, even great buildings in main missions. Quite laggy when it comes to desert and Jiu Jiang Men map, perhaps it could be optimised soon. This game concept and mechanics are extraordinary and unique, keep it on Devs! Look forward to your upcoming games that similar to this, wish that I could build more different kind of buildings, best if i can build a castle up from nothing, and story background may likely set to any Era in China, e.g. 1. Qing 清(1636-1912) 2. Ming 明(1368-1644) 3. Yuan 元(1271-1368) 4. Song 宋(960-1279) 5. Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms 五代十国(907 to 979) 6. Tang 唐(618-907) 7. Sui 隋(581-619) 8. A charming and relaxing experience – with room to grow Chinese Frontiers is the first game of this type I’ve ever played, and I’m absolutely hooked. The building system is incredibly satisfying, the casual pace is perfect, and the low difficulty makes it a very relaxing experience. Even when you "pass out" from exhaustion, you don’t lose anything, which keeps things frustration-free. For anyone looking for a chill, rewarding building game, this is a real gem. That said, there are some areas that need polish and expansion. After 69 hours, it seems I’ve completed the main questline – which makes the game feel a bit short. Village management mechanics also need refinement: assigning villagers to certain buildings either doesn’t work or is unclear. For example, I appear to be able to assign someone to log splitting, but the buttons don’t respond. Storage is currently the biggest limitation – inventory, cart, and warehouse space all fill up too fast, and without expansion options, I often have to throw away useful resources. I initially hoped that the material chests near production buildings (like the sawmill) would act as localized storage for assigned workers – but unfortunately, both materials and finished products are still routed through the main warehouse. This makes resource flow inefficient and limits expansion. Similarly, while my village capacity is theoretically over 40 residents, I only use about 8 in practice. Since houses can’t be upgraded, building new ones from scratch doesn’t make sense when I’m not even utilizing the villagers I already have. I'd especially like to assign more people to the smelter – but that’s not currently possible. Iron tools don’t feel like a satisfying upgrade over stone ones. They require significantly more effort: you have to personally walk to the mines, extract the ore, smelt it (currently the most complex production process), and finally forge the tools. Yet despite all that work, their durability doesn’t seem much better – especially when used by villagers, who burn through them at an alarming rate. If I focused purely on effort vs reward, I’d stick to stone tools entirely and skip iron ones altogether. Lastly, some side quests (like the one involving the meteor) lack objective markers. I’m not sure if that’s intentional, but it discourages players from doing optional content. Still, despite these flaws, Chinese Frontiers is a fantastic, relaxing game that I’ve really enjoyed. I hope the devs keep expanding it – there’s a solid foundation here that deserves to grow.

Update at 1.02 patch 6/29/25: the changes the devs made were greatly appreciated. More durability on the primitive tools, less resources required, and more. finally seems more manageable. Also you can automate farming, I hadn't gotten to that piece yet. Still enjoying the game though. Would still recommend. Super grindy...so tired of chopping trees, but it keeps me going for whatever reason. The upkeep on the villagers is crazy, wish they could work farms so they could make their own food and the cost of each building is insane...yet I keep going. About 4 hours in an haven't even unlocked the next tier of tools. Made so many primitive hammers I could fill a home depot...yet I keep going. Not sure what it is but I'm enjoying the grind and the game so far. I'd recommend at this point.

After playing for a couple of days, I can say this game should've been released as an early access game. The game is good, the building is absolutely well done, but some features can use some work, pathing for qeust NPC is a bit off and loading screens are a bit long sometimes, pressing space helps ofcourse ;), but to me when you go into a loading screen, you normally dont have to press a button to leave the loading screen. There are some bugs around quests and NPC breaking but haven't experienced them myself, most of the bugs I have experienced are more funny then game breaking. At some point Jun was hanging upside down like a bat, but I could still talk to him, so for me that was more fun then annoying. The survival element is well balanced, you need to keep your food and water up but it isn't something that expects your full attention, you can just eat and drink and be on your way to build a new project. Seeing that the devs are actually listening to the players and working on patching some issues, this game will be worth full price in no time.

Only had a few hours on, so will likely updated the review later. But so far its pretty good. The game seems more oriented towards a relaxing environement and it does it really well. I have a rather large experience with crafting/building type of games, and this one really nails the "zen" vibe it aims for. The gameplay requires you to take a fair bit effort into each building, gathering and the like. But nothing feels like a hassle so far. Just chill.
