GAMEPLAY Building is the core of this game, and thankfully, it feels really good. Placing buildings, setting up production, and watching things come together is genuinely satisfying. What I like most is that you’re not just building for the sake of it. Your village exists to support much larger projects, so resource production always feels intentional. You naturally start prioritising what you need next, rather than just churning things out because you can. There’s a nice balance between running a functional village and slowly pushing towards bigger goals. It almost feels puzzle-like at times, especially when you’re trying to work out the most efficient way to support a large build. Once you get into it, you fall into a steady rhythm that’s very easy to lose time to. THE WORLD The environment is lovely. It’s calm, atmospheric, and just a nice place to exist in while you’re working on projects. Everything visually fits together well, and the setting really supports the slower, more thoughtful pace of the game. It’s the kind of world where you don’t feel rushed, which suits the gameplay perfectly. PROGRESSION & SYSTEMS Progression is where this game really shines. Working towards major construction projects gives your village a proper sense of purpose, and it avoids that common village-builder problem of feeling like you’re stuck in a loop of pointless production. You always feel like you’re building towards something. That said, automation and villager usage could definitely use some work. Improving those systems would make resource management feel less restrictive, especially when certain materials feel artificially scarce. Village management can also be a bit frustrating at times, largely because the game doesn’t always explain things very clearly and there aren’t many guides to fall back on yet. RANDOM BITS There’s a surprising amount packed in already. Alongside village management and building, there are quests, cooking, farming, and some genuinely enjoyable, almost puzzle-like construction moments. I also really like the personalities of the two main NPCs, which was a nice surprise and added a bit of charm to the experience. Performance-wise, I’ve been lucky. I’ve not run into any bugs, crashes, or noticeable lag, which made the whole experience much smoother than I expected from reading other reviews. I CRY Lack of clear explanations in places. There were moments where I was tearing my hair out trying to work out how something was supposed to function because the game simply doesn’t tell you. Better tutorials or in-game guidance would go a long way. Villager management and automation need more depth. It works, but it could be much better. CONCLUSION Overall, I’m really enjoying Chinese Frontiers. It’s already very playable, and the building is some of the most satisfying I’ve experienced in a village builder. I’ve played games like Medieval Dynasty and Sengoku Dynasty, and this easily stands out in terms of how good it feels to actually construct things and work towards large goals. The game isn’t perfect and it’s clearly still maturing, but the foundation is strong. If you enjoy village builders and purposeful progression, this is well worth your time. I’m having more fun with it than I expected, especially after reading some early reviews, and I’m genuinely excited to see how it develops in future updates.

This game is a great game already with a ton of potential, and I would highly recommend it. I've sunk 7 hours into the game and I bought it today, so that should say something already, but I will put a bit more nuanced of a review below this: 1st, this game is in early access, and it does show. There are bugs and the game could do a MUCH better job at telling you what needs to be done and when. That said, the building feels very satisfying and there is a sort of progression where you are focused on the one hand on building a working village, but on the other you are trying to dedicate resources made at this village towards much larger projects such as a beacon tower (which was a ton of fun to build!) and a couple other large projects thereafter. This inspires you to prioritize the production of resources that assist in the completion of these large projects and gets rid of the feeling of making resources just to make resources, it gives your village a sense of purpose. The game could benefit from future updates that improve the harvesting of resources (sand, for example, is somewhat sparce and it's used frequently, so making it more available would definitely be a benefit). Overall, I've had a blast playing this game so far. It looks great, the environment is awesome, the buildings are satisfying to make and you kind of just fall into a sort of rhythm just working through the process of building a project. I've played many 'village builders' like medieval dynasty, Sengoku Dynasty, and others, but this one has the most satisfying building by far. It could definitely improve the automation aspect and the use of villagers, which would also improve the scarcity of certain resources, but I highly recommend it and I really look forward to seeing where this game goes in the future. In short: there are areas the game will likely improve as development progresses, but even in it's current state it's a very playable and enjoyable game with a satisfying building processes and a very promising future. If you're on the fence, this will likely be one of the best 'village builder' games you ever buy, even though it still has a bit of maturing to do.

EDIT: The game is as of now on a bit of a standstill. There are bug that can make it rather frustrating and still needs a lot of QoL work. Yet the developers have been rather quiet until september, where they said they were "restructuring" and would forward give steady updates... That we have yet to see any of. With that, id say the game is more on the mixed side than actual positive. So if you buy it, you better be ready to accept some minor/major flaws. It may get updated if they are honest, but i cant help but feel pessimistic with their delayed response and even more delayed updates. EARLY REVIEW: Only had a few hours on, so will likely updated the review later. But so far its pretty good. The game seems more oriented towards a relaxing environement and it does it really well. I have a rather large experience with crafting/building type of games, and this one really nails the "zen" vibe it aims for. The gameplay requires you to take a fair bit effort into each building, gathering and the like. But nothing feels like a hassle so far. Just chill.

Completed all main and sub missions, nothing more to play. Very fun and enjoyable game, It's recommended to play if you enjoy to construct building piece by piece, you'll feel a strong sense of accomplishment while completely constructed each of building, even great buildings in main missions. Quite laggy when it comes to desert and Jiu Jiang Men map, perhaps it could be optimised soon. This game concept and mechanics are extraordinary and unique, keep it on Devs! Look forward to your upcoming games that similar to this, wish that I could build more different kind of buildings, best if i can build a castle up from nothing, and story background may likely set to any Era in China, e.g. 1. Qing 清(1636-1912) 2. Ming 明(1368-1644) 3. Yuan 元(1271-1368) 4. Song 宋(960-1279) 5. Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms 五代十国(907 to 979) 6. Tang 唐(618-907) 7. Sui 隋(581-619) 8. After playing for a couple of days, I can say this game should've been released as an early access game. The game is good, the building is absolutely well done, but some features can use some work, pathing for qeust NPC is a bit off and loading screens are a bit long sometimes, pressing space helps ofcourse ;), but to me when you go into a loading screen, you normally dont have to press a button to leave the loading screen. There are some bugs around quests and NPC breaking but haven't experienced them myself, most of the bugs I have experienced are more funny then game breaking. At some point Jun was hanging upside down like a bat, but I could still talk to him, so for me that was more fun then annoying. The survival element is well balanced, you need to keep your food and water up but it isn't something that expects your full attention, you can just eat and drink and be on your way to build a new project. Seeing that the devs are actually listening to the players and working on patching some issues, this game will be worth full price in no time.
