I see everyone loving it, and while i see some features that i like in these kind of games, and can tell the game is polished. Just doesn't hit for me. Its not complicated enough and i feel like im just clicking and adding stuff without changing much, and that the more teams i make just the better it'll get. Most likely i haven't explore the game fully yet. But after some hours i got a little bored and couldn't think of a very exciting continuation of the game. It has a lot of features, but somethings just didn't clicked enough for me. I come from playing software inc, and that game is just Too good to be compared i guess, and even if this game scratches some of the features, i just don't feel enough the strugle a developer has, and feel more like click to success. It can use some of your brain, and there things to design etc. But unfortunately i didn't get that amazing feeling other people felt with this game, i even like mad games tycoon a little more. Maybe, i have to just give it one other shot at some point. But i really just made a fortune on my first games, bought many offices and populated them, then i started not doing very good and lost interest. I tried to think again and again, what is that i didn't like really, because im a mad fan of these games. And im not really sure. I think i want more focus on the building, and more guidance on how to build nicely and what is needed for an office. Enchance the feeling that you building your company, because really at the early game, i felt nothing, i purchased empoyees like they were slaves :p ~Edit~ Completed the game twice on harder difficulty. Look the game is very nice with a lot of polish and the features are there. Its fast though if you know what you doing, killing the replayability a little, i can see my self wanna play it again. But the Director, needs to be expanded a little to be able to handle some more stuff but also maybe the whole game should slow down a little. it advances a little bit fast, and you as well are able to just imporve constantly, i think it should take some more time between the years and the AI should be a little bit more competitive. Then i loved the whole interface the UI the whole game, but falls short on some stuff. If the difficulty and time for tasks adjust a little, and with some expansion on the details and statistics we can see on the AI teams and the actions we can take with them. This game might be a very solid game. So far, i found it a bit easy and quick, not a lot to do with the companies you buy really and even though they managed to launch a better game than me, i bought them and they had 5 developers? So the AI doesn't really represent their success and stock i suppose. If the simulation was a little bit more real and we could see and work on these statistics, and had a little bit more time between seasons. I give it 9.5/10. Currently, 7/10. Its good better than some others ;)

In my opinion, City Game Studio is a slightly better Game Dev Tycoon, but it also has it's own set of issues. I find the studio competitor gameplay mechanic to become tedious and it falls flat, and your studios eventually balloon to unmanageable size where it just isn't fun to play anymore. That is main problem for me, as your playthrough gets pretty boring after a few hours. The campaigns are also much longer than Game Dev Tycoon, which I would have liked, if it wasn't for this issue. On the positive, every other gameplay mechanic ripped from Game Dev is here, but expanded upon, and it does feel much less RNG. That being said, with mods, Game Dev Tycoon still comes out on top for me. However, if you're looking for a purely vanilla experience, pick up City Game Studio instead.

I have never seen a game developer more dedicated to his game than this one. Throwing out updates week after week, still improving the game which was released 4 years ago. Kudos, Xavier!

Great and updated alternative to Game Dev Tycoon. My only problem with this game is how outdated the UI looks and feels.

City Game Studio has held my attention for longer than the alternative Game Tycoon games I've played. While it's not a large market this is the entry I enjoy the most. You start out as a developer out of their home at the dawn of the gaming industry and work to release games and unlock new genres. Something easy to miss in this game is that much of it can be as manually micromanaged or as automated as you prefer - (hire a HR head if you don't want to assign people vacations for example) and even more with the imminent release of the studio head option to help further automate where you wish. These types of things come handy when you becoming a sprawling gaming empire like Actvision or EA, or when combined with your own hardware you can be the size of a Nintendo or a Sony. I love stories I create around my games of the year and around the growing sales trends for certain franchises. It's fun to look back and see what your company that started in a garage and became as large as Nintendo had accomplished in the industry. A general tip for anyone starting out who is not achieving high game release scores- you want to maximize the points allocated to each of the 3 stages of game development (where you pick features included). It can be tricky early on as no engine will have enough features to fill up all the slots but once you are able to create your own engine use it and then select game platforms that correspond to the number of features available to use. I would love more role-playing elements, but at it's heart this is a tycoon game and it delivers in what is promises to be. While I have over 100+ hours played I don't generally write reviews. This is a small developer that pushes out seemingly weekly updates every year. He listens and genuinely changes the game based on feedback. When we have other developers who's initial reaction is - no, your wrong and here is why the game is great, it's been so refreshing to know that we're heard regardless of the suggestions made here in Steam or if they are on the discord server. I'm happy with where the game has grown too but thrilled that the game continues to updated and feedback actively sought. We get good games when developers have enough humility to listen. Thanks!
