an excellent game even for those who don’t like soulslike games very much (after all, WeMod is there for that), with interesting lore, a dark story involving vampires and post-apocalyptic monsters and many mysterious characters. for me it was one of those games that, after finishing it, made me want to research more to better understand the universe in which the game takes place and the details that weren’t clear during the campaign and I think that’s really cool!! I also really liked the soundtrack (even though it has few tracks, that doesn’t take away from their shine) and the dark environments and gothic theme, which made the whole experience more memorable. On the other hand, I didn’t like the extra dungeons (except for the DLCs, which are good), because they’re far too repetitive and I also didn’t like some of the game’s maps, especially the cathedral.. for me it was pure torment to spend hours and hours in that labyrinth, without a doubt the worst part of the game!! aside from that, I don’t have much to complain about. The bosses are cool (especially the DLC ones) and the difficulty is high, but I can’t comment much on that since I used WeMod.. it made the battles easier, but it didn’t spare me from the stress of the labyrinths or from when enemies appear out of nowhere and knock you into oblivion.

Code Vein turned out to be a fun and interesting soulslike. I had my eye on it for a long time but never really got around to playing it. Now that I finally did, I had a good time with it. What I liked Character editor My huge respect. So many options, details and ways to customize your character. You can easily spend hours in it, and that's what I did. Controls Feel responsive and comfortable. They are a bit overloaded with functions, but everything works nicely once you get used to it. Keybinds are customizable, and comfortable for keyboard players. The only annoying thing is having to scroll through consumables manually. Locations They are great both visually and in terms of structure. They feel well thought out and atmospheric. Bosses I played through all bosses solo, without a partner, and it was fun. Learning their attacks and beating them fair and square was super satisfying. Music Really nice. Some tracks are incredibly beautiful and fit the game perfectly. What I did not like that much Bugs and technical issues Even years after release, the game feels underpolished. I ran into a lot of hitbox problems where attacks just pass through enemies. The target lock can break randomly and send your character swinging in the wrong direction. Also, I had some issues with elevators. Too many cutscenes Some of them feel slow and boring. The characters often say really cliche things. If you have watched at least a couple of teen anime, you have definitely heard it all before. Enemy variety Pretty limited. In the second half of the game they start repeating constantly, and the later areas don't introduce any new enemies at all. Final thoughts Overall, the game is good. But it has its flaws. I would rate the game 7 out of 10. I hope the sequel will be even better!

A definition of a 6/10 game. Solid gameplay, Story is enjoyable and good but nothing special or groundbreaking. Has fun stuff like great build diversity and character customisation (excluding the actual outfits), the anime aesthetic is well done and not off putting. Apparently feels much like an anime dark souls, maybe this is the game that will get me to play that franchise someday. I found myself frustrated at the level design multiple times during the game (the cathedral level is made by sadists). Overall it's okay, but some levels feel like they were purposefully made the most annoying mazes in existence where you have to backpedal for multiple times navigating different routes, just to end up at a drop down ledge to a place you already were. Although credit where it's due the minimap footstep system alleviates this a bit. That and some of the bosses attacks felt a bit too fast and wide, couple of times I found myself getting hit by what seemed to be a out of reach attack and/or almost an instant 180 sweep with their back against me. TLDR: Overall a fun and at times frustrating souls like anime game. Solid 30 hours of fun, buy on a discount at like 15€ or something idk.

I have mixed feelings for Code Vein, I don't think it is bad, I believe it does many things right, but also does some of them bad. I found myself saying "If only" a lot throughout the game. Code Vein constantly screams at me that it has soulslike combat, but at the same time it screams it is not. I think this design conflict caused many issues that are present in the game. Combat feels stiff and does not understand what makes souls combat responsive in the first place. It feels like developers had a vision in their head, but some executives forced them to make a souls game. Despite that, Code Vein has many interesting ideas, Focus, bloodcodes, gifts, drain system, 3 different crits, 8 spell slots, bayonets etc. Which often made me wish the combat was more fleshed out. The story istelf is alright, cutscenes are cool and overall world is nice. I really like how we delve into memories of every character, experiencing them and understanding their backstory. Although it can get quiet repetitive, It is overall well done. On the contrast, NPC quests and certain main cast quests are never hinted or told to you, risking major losses like partners, unlockables or a completely different ending. I wished it wasn't like this, but this is how dark souls handles their stories, so It wasn't that big of an issue for me. Level design is interesting, some has mazes, some has lots of traps and some has their own gimmicks. I enjoyed it, except some maze levels are horrendous considering how devs decided to make a map that literally looks the same every corner. I enjoyed the partner system the most, without it I don't think I would have ever finished Code Vein. I honestly never thought I would like it this much either, but here I am making a build around keeping my partner alive. Oh well. Character creation is sick, no arguments there. Wished our character talked more though. If only combat was more fleshed out, If only bosses made more sense, If only focus had some use in bosses, If only drains actually made sense, If only weapon based spells had poise, If only they stuck to their vision and walked away from the souls formula, Code Vein could have been a phenomenal game. Hopefully in a sequel. Oh yeah, One more thing. Whoever designed the final boss, I hope both sides of your pillow is warm tonight.
