I've made it my goal this year to try to review every game that I 100%, so I was already mapping out my review in the back of my mind when I first started playing Coffee Caravan. I went back and forth on whether I was going to ultimately recommend this game for awhile but I think ultimately I would say "yes" I do recommend this if you like games in this genre. I played PlateUp! first so, I can't help but to compare it with that. On the one hand, it lacks the overall long-term replayability factor of PlateUp! unless you go out of your way to make things difficult OR you just want to vibe. Originally I didn't think vibing would be enough of a draw but by the end of my time with this game, I was in a really mellow/zen state so I could potentially see myself revisiting this game randomly here and there if I need something to pass the time. That's not necessarily a super convincing endorsement though, so I'd say for the majority of people you'd be best catching this on a sale like I did. I went AFK for like 2-3 hours and left the game open by accident, so my playtime is a bit inflated. I probably spent closer to 7.5-8 hours with this game to 100% it. Other Pros: Variety. I went into this just expecting to make coffee and was okay with that, but you can actually run 3 different foodtrucks-- coffee, tea, and ice cream. And inside each of those genres, there's 10 recipes. Some are just variations e.g. drip coffee, drip coffee with ice, drip coffee with milk, but it seems like a lot of thought did go into making a variety of recipes so it actually reasonably feels like a real world menu. You can't mix and match across genres (no serving coffee and tea simultaneously for instance) which on its surface sounds like a let down but you'll have more than enough recipes to keep you occupied since you're in charge of how many of your unlocked recipes that you decide to actively serve each day from within the overall genre. It was honestly super gratifying by the "late game" stages to have built up the memory and management skills required to offer every single recipe all at once. Lastly, this could be a pro or a con I suppose, but the game sets itself apart from being a wholesale PlateUp! clone by allowing you to keep all of your workstations and items between runs; you only lose unspent money if you fail a day. Meaning, you can really put time and effort into making a thoughtful and nice-looking set-up. Cons: As mentioned, there's not a ton of replayability. Of course, it's technically INFINITELY replayable, but given that the gameplay loop is more relaxed and forgiving than PlateUp! due to all of the RNG aspects being basically inconsequential after a certain point, it will get old eventually. At my current playtime, I like it enough that maybe I would revisit it, and I did like it enough to hard focus the game for the last 2 days, but as of right now with all of my goals achieved I'm not really hesitating to uninstall it and move on. Final Verdict: Don't expect miracles when it comes to your overall play time, but this game still has a lot of value if you like games in this genre and/or you enjoy the thought of a more relaxed and aesthetic PlateUp! where your customers aren't total dirtbags who like to barf up their meals everywhere. I feel like $10 would be a better "regular" price for this game, but the full cost isn't egregious. Still, if you can wait and get it on sale (I paid $7.19 when it was 40% off) then that's probably the wisest maneuver.
Played 2.5 hours of it so far- unlocked the whole coffee tree, and the base recipe of the espresso. I LOVE this game. The roguelite element adds just enough challenge in the beginning. I failed my first two runs before i got the hang of it. And there's more of a natural challenge now that I'm unlocking new recipes. I love that the devs added a weekly challenge to keep it interesting for people that have completed story mode. The game lets you be creative enough for either a cozy or a min/max demon experience. For $10, i do believe there's plenty of content.
Coffee Caravan is a nice cozy game where you're playing as a barista and prepare some various delicious drinks of coffees and teas. Each end of day you can upgrade your equipments. The designs are really nice and the soundtrack is jazzy and chill. It's the perfect game to play when you just want to relax. I highly recommend this game! 💗
If you want a cozy, cafe version of PlateUp! then this is for you. Summary of game: Basically, you would make the recipes using computer controls (the only thing that uses the mouse is the shop and other selections.) Like I said, it's kind of like PlateUp! since you can change up the layout of the caravan and the overall serving is similar. Another thing similar is how both will restart to the beginning if only one customer leaves or the bar goes down completely. The machines don't catch on fire though so it's more chill but less of a challenge. I've played it for a few hours so far and it's pretty easy to complete so I would think this will be another game that ends too fast and too easily. You can also increase the patience of customers, increase walking speed, expand the caravan by completing the map, decrease prosses, and more. What I would wish it had: Maybe some more customizations on the character or items would be fun. I would like more challenges when cooking or special characters is like the wealthy man who has less patience. Maybe some difficulty options that you're forced to select. The game could be expanded a bit in terms of time since I finished most of it in a few hours. I would want a game that lasts me for a long time. It's also kind of repetitive with the overall gameplay. I would loooovvee more content like recipes and layouts and regular updates. What I loved: I loved how chill it was compared too others (maybe a bit too chill. The art is simple yet absolutely adorable. I love the choice of upgrades and selection of items. It's a fun game for a little bit of play like if you're busy but need a small and quick break. Rating and conclusion: 8/10 Overall, I love this game but I wish it was longer and slightly more challenging. I do love how it's the cozy version of PlateUp! (I mentioned that a lot. Sorry.) with the overall functions and game. I would recommend this for people who do not wish for an extremely rushed game but want a bit of a small challenge.
