I saw the negative reviews for the game but played the demo and like it. I bought the game and I am looking forward to the update for the rest of the campaign. This game is significantly different from a Legionary's Life since the focus is on the Century and not so much the Centurion. The only mechanic that I really want to see added is the ability to add points to your character creation from your previous play through like Legionary's Life had. Looking forward to the updates.

Certainly scratches that itch A Legionary's Life left, I like some of the design changes like assigning points at the start instead of rolling for them, or the new stances in individual combat Needs more events in between chapters, I keep seeing the same "I will pay you for less work" event every chapter, or the results of it, but the game is still in development and I certainly expect them coming Maps. We need maps to show where we are in the Gaul or around Rhine for some context. History is interesting enough to read but without maps or which tribe I'm fighting in which part of France, I keep glancing over names without reading. Or the troop movements in a battle, which flank fell back, which advanced etc Squares. I'm sure a sizeable people playing this game watched channels like Historia Civilis, videos like The Battle of Alesia. Squares give me joy. The UI has enough place to show some red squares fighting. Also Battle of Alesia was a bit short for how much of an epic feat it was Needs a handheld tutorial century combat... Maybe the mock battle at the start that we make through events. There are more variables here than a frp and it's so convulated. I like the system though it was hard to follow at first few hours. Only cheating and editing my stats could I finally understand how turns or rounds work, or why I never got to attack

I'm not sure I actually recommend this game in it's current state. It's a unique experience for 10$ but it's a serious step down from A Legionary's Life at least in terms of fun. I think I have two main problems The transition away from meta-progression made the gameplay itself much more stale and less diverse, there's a correct way to do things now and it makes this game have almost zero replayability. And with the gameplay suffering, the CYOA mechanics weren't improved at all, they've actually become slightly worst. Most options are still just "Optional harder fight" or "Optional skill check for small benefit" and no longer do the events/fights you take part in change depending on how well you are doing, further harming the replayability. At least just like A Legionary's Life, the strong historic story telling is still there.

I still recommend because its well worth the 10 bucks, but please, add the rogue like elements back, and half the stuff on battles are combats can be ignored, feels like filler...

To be honest, I'm disappointed. No, it's not a bad game; it's actually a pretty cool historical walkthrough with Caesar in Gaul, complete with historical references. However, it’s not a sequel to the previous game at all. The lack of meta-progression makes the game less replayable. Personally, I have no desire to go through all the chapters again, as I managed to complete it on my first attempt without losing any characters or officers. Without meta-progression, the entire game turns into a tedious search for the META build just to tick all the skill checks, like in some visual novel dating simulator (e.g., to get this heroine's route, make sure to level up engineering to 30 by the third day). In other words, the gameplay boils down to noting skill checks and then savescaming adjusting your training to meet those checks. I hope that in the full version, the game will get closer to the spirit of legionary life, With a wider range of possibilities thanks to meta-progression.
