Cook, Serve, Delicious! isn’t your average cooking game - it’s a real test of reflexes, memory and multitasking skills. Released in 2013 by Vertigo Gaming, it takes a simple idea - running a restaurant - and turns it into something surprisingly intense. You start off inheriting a run-down little place in a massive skyscraper, with the goal of turning it into a five star hotspot. Sounds easy… but it’s not. Each in-game day is a race against the clock: customers ordering everything from quick coffees to complex multi-course meals. The interface seems straightforward at first, but within minutes you’ll be frantically hitting key combos to keep everything on track. The variety of dishes is great (hot dogs, pasta, steaks, salads), each with its own timing and prep steps. You’ve also got to keep the kitchen clean and manage tasks while the clock ticks mercilessly down. Nailing a lunch rush without a single mistake feels amazing; messing up even one order can be instantly frustrating. Visually, it’s simple but functional, and the jazzy soundtrack is perfect for keeping your energy up during service. After a while, you realize it’s not just a cooking game; it’s a test of focus, patience and precision. It rewards persistence, punishes distraction and gives you that rare satisfaction of bringing order to chaos. If you enjoy a challenge and don’t mind a bit of pressure, this game is a real gem.

It's fun and challenging and has a good learning curve. Only downside to this game is you might build up the muscle memory to get far in the game, take a short break to play another game, come back, and it's ALL GONE, so you have to start from scratch. Due to that last part, I couldn't finish it, but it was fun while I played.

I had fun playing this game at first on Steam Deck, but there came a point in the game where I could tell I would never be able to complete all the competitions because it was impossible for me to move that fast on controller. I managed to get all the achievements by switching to PC and then it became more of a typing game which was much easier. Very satisfying to complete while also quite a challenge.

Eleven years after its release, Cook Serve Delicious! is still the flagship of stressful restaurant-themed single-player time management games. Where Overcooked makes you hate your friends, CSD makes you hate your life. You take over a zero-star café in Sherrisoda Tower, and make the tactical mistake of opening for customers. As the only cook and janitor, you spend long shifts juggling chores and making orders to customer satisfaction by selecting the right keys/buttons while 4-8 other customers wait impatiently . Between shifts, you plan your menu like a battle strategy and upgrade your restaurant. There's not much story, but the lore unfolding in the background is somehow more insane than the game itself; by the third game, you're driving an armored food truck with cyborg sous chefs. I've played all three installments over the years on various platforms, and particularly enjoyed it at times in my life when I couldn't deal with reality; it's frustrating and it demands all of your attention, but the dopamine rush of getting everything right is so satisfying. This is also the odd game with controller support that I prefer to play with keyboard/mouse. While CSD2 is often recommended as the better game, it'll be a challenge if you haven't practiced with CSD1. If you liked anything at all about this review, then I'd recommend picking up either the base game or the trilogy bundle.
