🎣 Cornerpond Review 🐡 Cornerpond is honestly just a really lovely little game. The pixel art is super cute, and I love how colourful and quirky all the different fish are — some of them are actually pretty funny. There’s a nice variety of fishing spots too, which you unlock as you level up (just by catching fish, super simple). Customization is fun — there’s a decent mix of hairstyles, and while outfits are more limited (just colour changes), being able to adjust your sock length is a surprisingly fun touch. Little things like that really add to the charm. As you play, you unlock a small shop where you can buy cute hats and even change your fishing bobber, which I didn’t expect but totally enjoyed. The game is labeled as an idler, and it definitely leans into that over time. Early on, you’ll be a bit more active — mostly selling fish and saving up to expand your inventory. Progression can feel a little slow at first, so you’ll need a bit of patience to get going, but once things open up, it becomes a great laid-back experience. One tip: potions are super useful. Always grab the buffs such as faster fishing, and higher rare fish chances when you can. They make a big difference, all the buffs help and are useful. All in all, this is a wholesome, low-pressure game that’s great to relax with. It’s one of those little gems that’s easy to fall into. In some ways, Cornerpond is nothing like real fishing. At one point, using nothing but a fishing rod and a worm as bait, I hauled a 2,000 pound beluga whale out of the Arctic and then sold it within seconds in an illegal whale meat market. But in other ways, the game manages to evoke strangely real and familiar emotions. Once, in the middle of answering an email, a chirp alerted me that a real whopper was on the line. A meter indicated it would take 900 clicks to successfully reel it in. This was a massive fish—an absolute barn door. I knew my rod wasn’t upgraded enough for the fight, but I clicked as quickly as I could anyway. As the leviathan slipped away, I found myself crunching numbers to see how much I’d need to gear up to nab the beast if and when I meet him again. "That bastard’s not gonna catch me slipping next time," I mused. One minute I was appending “Best, Ryan” to a Gmail draft, and the next I’d gone full Captain Ahab. TL;DR great game buy it
