The end game is very grindy, like, days and days spent just trying to get the last 5 achievements. But! It's still a very cute game and the idling aspect is interesting and increasingly customisable over time. I like all the different landscapes, the puzzles, and that you could navigate to quest solves through the menu itself, or even through the item you've just caught. I think the developer's put a lot of thought into this! I just wish there was a way to use all the "useless" money at the end to speed up completing the collection. I know we have lures! But I would happily pay like, 100,000 to guarantee a specific kind of fish, or even 1,000,000 with how much money I had just sitting around at the end. That's just me though! And I do recommend this other game otherwise, it was very cute, and I liked it a lot.

a cute little companion game that sits at the bottom of your screen and fishes. it took me about 40 hours to catch everything and get all of the achievements. i had fun. i found it to be more active than idle, at least the way i was playing it.

Easily the best of the desktop fishing idlers I've tried thus far. The glut of actionable things to do is a nice change of pace for this type of game. If I had to complain about something, it'd be that half the hours played are dedicated to achievement completion and not unlocking or improving things. I think I unlocked every fish and completed every quest around the 50-hour mark, but it took until 115+ hours to complete the fish encyclopedia, all while using the lures. I liked it, though, and do recommend it.

A lovely Over-The-Desktop idle game. It has pleasant and good looking sprite work and an overall peaceful aesthetic, combined with a fair bit of depth. At its core, Idle Waters is a fishing Collect-A-Thon done at the pace of an idle game. Your primary goal is to make money and catch every fish, and collect every item. To accomplish this goal, you must take your red panda to many locations, discover secrets, do item side quests for npc's you encounter, and feed your cat companion. This is all done through a simple to use map system, a "charm" system that lets you change up elements like catching certain fish without a time of day requirement or making the game more active, buying upgrades, and most importantly, catching fish. As you progress, you will also unlock aquariums to put your fish in to display and move around on your desktop, if you desire. While it takes a little bit of progress to reach the point in which you can turn the game into its more active mode, Idle Waters allows for either playstyle with no issue and the option can be turned off at will. The only true difference between the two play styles is the time required to finish your ultimate task of collecting everything. To add to that, the inventory system comes with a very well made "auto-sell" system with a robust amount of filtering options so you can limit what gets auto-sold. I enjoyed this game overall and found it to be well worth my time and money. It did its job well of being an idle game with a reasonable incentive to play it more actively on occasion, and it did not overstay it's welcome like some in the genre may do. If you're in the market for an idle game, give it a go, it will probably tickle your fancy.

9/10: Another awesome idle game right here! It’s got different mechanics compared to your usual fishing idle games. There's a cool system where you can tweak your attributes to catch specific fish which adds a nice layer of strategy. The quests are fun too, you actually have missions like “go get this” or “hunt down that.” And the achievements? They don’t feel forced at all. Natural and satisfying to unlock.
