Game is as if it was a tech demo for a combat system that was incomplete. Really needs one or two more mechanics to truly shine. In its current state it is fun, however.

Pre update review: Its tough to say if I do or don't recommend this game. its style is fun and cute, the game play is slightly repetitive but good fun for the most part. Even if you don't think the game is your style I'd say its at least worth trying 2-3 runs before you set your opinion in stone. Post Update review: Before the latest update this game was fun but pretty easy and lacked enemy and build variety. The latest update has added a nice amount of new variety in perks, enemies, and weapons but its still a tough game to recommend to people. The new elite enemies in Stage 1 are fine and actually fun to fight, however the elites in Stage 2 are kinda just annoying when you have to deal with them and other enemies (normal or other elites) at the same time. The melee yeti guys are enemies you have to work around normally and make sure you don't take unnecessary damage by forgetting about them when targeting other enemies. They have a decent HP of 30 which is relatively easy to deal with if you get your build in order before stage 2 but their elite versions however are just outright obnoxious to deal with in my opinion. The elite version has double HP (60), what feels like double movement (distance they can travel), and damage which makes them a pure annoyance if they corner you when other enemies are nearby. The other elites in Stage 2 are fine but can also be annoying if they gang up on you. They are not hard to kill or deal with if you kill them first over normal enemies but again, they are very annoying in groups. I can not say much about the Stage 3 enemies as I haven't gotten to it yet after the new update, maybe I'll update my review after if I feel like it. Now the weapons. I like the rifle and the dagger and they can be VERY strong if you get a good build but they can have moments where they really fuck you over. The dagger really relies on keeping injured enemies alive which, as anyone could probably guess, isn't very practical when enemies can easily team up on you but I guess they just didn't want to make the first boss weapon too strong so its understandable. Now I really like the rifle for its high damage capabilities and its very clear point of creation is to make wait cards more useful but the downside of having to wait 1 turn before you can attack can make the shield statues a huge pain in the ass to deal with because enemies can get shields back basically indefinitely if you don't deal with the statue first. That's basically all my complaints as all the other changes and balancing was very nice and a great change of pace for the game. I still stand by my take that if you think you'll like it, just buy it and try 2-3 runs before you decide what you think. Also side note/question for if the devs see this: was The Huntresses design based and/or inspired by Shelly from Brawl Stars?

~1st: I bought this as a package deal with 'Shogun Showdown' which I absolutely adore, and will play forever. ~All the red thumbs down will say the same thing, not enough procedural generation in maps or enemies or weapons to justify the price. ~The game gets exponentially easier to run through after two hours and can be completed within that time to five hours; RNGods praise be. Replayability is just not there yet. If new levels, enemies, and weapons make it into the dlc (FOR FREE) this game has a chance. ~I am giving 'Day of the Shell' a thumbs up because the concept design and music has passed, now we just need a little more complexity. ~Lastly, maybe allow us to create maps and put them up for the community. That would kill it and guarantee its place, price and reusage... kinda like advanced wars.

RECOMMENDED WITH A HUGE WARNING This is a cool game with interesting ideas that shoots itself in the foot with meta progression. It's too difficult and frustrating at the start, you lack firepower and options. Even with that said IF THE DEVS decide to refine the game with updates to the player experience I think this can be a good game that will be carried by word of mouth. Point being: worth a shot, hope the devs wildly streamline the unecessary difficulty at the start due to the best upgrades taking a lot of grinding

I came into this game already impressed by the demo, but the full version has completely blown me away. What we have here is a rare indie gem that not only respects the tradition of tactical roguelikes, but also modernizes the genre in a way that makes it incredibly approachable without sacrificing depth. A masterclass in accessible tactics The core design philosophy is genius: “one click, one turn.” Every action is clear, immediate, and satisfying. You don’t spend time buried in complex menus or struggling to parse a dozen layers of mechanics; instead, you’re instantly in the thick of decision-making, and those decisions still carry weight. It’s an elegant distillation of tactics – like a chessboard that comes alive in your hands – and it works brilliantly. What’s truly remarkable is that this approach opens the door to players who usually find tactical games intimidating. You get all the depth, all the tension, but stripped of the barriers that usually prevent newcomers from entering the genre. It’s honestly a blueprint for how to make strategy games accessible without dumbing them down. Synergies and progression that keep you coming back Runs are short, sharp and addicting. In just a few hours I’ve already experienced wild builds where every turn felt like a clever puzzle. The way new abilities and upgrades interact with each other creates a playground of synergies. It’s that perfect roguelike loop: you fail, you learn, and you immediately want to dive back in, because you know the next run could be the one where all the pieces fall perfectly into place. Art direction that feels like a love letter It's gorgeous a little bit like a mix between the colorful charm of Rare in its golden age and the modern clarity of studios like Supergiant Games and Subset Games. Everything is vibrant, instantly readable, and full of details. There’s a distinct personality to the visuals that elevates the experience far beyond “just another indie.” Sound and atmosphere Music and sound design deserve a special mention. The soundtrack sets the perfect rhythm for this type of game: calm when you need to think, punchy when the action heats up. And the feedback on attacks – those crunchy, satisfying hits – makes every successful move feel rewarding. A bright future ahead For the price, the amount of polish and care here is frankly astonishing. This is a game that knows exactly what it wants to be and executes on that vision flawlessly. If you’re even remotely interested in tactics, roguelikes, or just smart game design, this is a must-play. It’s also a game that begs for portability. The entire RL structure the clear controls, the tight runs it would be absolutely perfect on mobile or Switch. When that happens, you can count me in for a second purchase without hesitation. In short: a modern classic in the making.
