This is not a sequel to the immersive zombie apocalypse game ' Dead Island '. It is a stand-alone expansion with exactly more-of-the-same of what the first game had ( same 4 playable main characters, inventory items, combat, zombie types, graphics, keyboard controls, etc ). For the basics on the game, I've included my ' Dead Island ' review at the bottom instead of repeating all that stuff here. The story continues in this game shortly after where it left off in the original game. The end of ' Dead Island ' had the 4 immune survivors ( Logan, Purna, Sam, & Xian ) escape the island of Banoi in a chopper, along with the native girl ( Yerema ) and the chopper pilot ( Kevin ). The beginning of ' Dead Island: Riptide ' has that chopper landing on a military vessel early the next morning. The survivors immediately find out things are not as they had hoped. Those in charge of the ship are not here to rescue them, but to capture them alive for experimentation. While on the ship, the survivors meet John, an immune soldier. The zombies get loose and overrun the ship during a huge violent storm. Then the ship wrecks on the coast of Palanai, which is another island in the same archipelago as Banoi. The 5 immune survivors wash up on the shore, along with Colonel Hardy, who is a supporting A.I. character. Of course, the first thing all of them discover is that this island is also overrun with zombies. So here we go again, fighting for survival and trying to find a way off the island. There are some new things this time around though. Here are some of them... 1. At least 4 new zombie types, and 5 unique zombie " bosses ". 2. A new teamwork achievement where you" mark " 100 zombies for a co-op partner to kill. 3. You get to drive boats. 4. John is a playable character, just like Ryder White was playable. 5. Several supporting A.I. characters at the various survivor camps. They will help defend the camps, but never die and never need healing. Just like with the original ' Dead Island ', some of the achievements here are a grind. Also, there are trading cards, achievements, and Point Shop items. Yes, there is co-op available for up to 4 players again, but thankfully only 2 co-op achievements are required this time. And finally... Yes, you might experience a few of the same bugs that were in the original. Personally, I've only had a few dropped connections. My ' Dead Island ' review... https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561199174853497/recommended/383150/

Dead Island 1.5 is more of the same but with less polish. There are some fun new additions (weapon specialisations, crazier infected, and a fifth playable character) but the game feels like an arcade spin off. 6/10

Standalone expansion for Dead Island. If you liked the base Dead Island game, you’ll like this one too, it’s literally more of the same. Though I will say that this one has some slight issues with some bugs and performance at times. Nothing major, but can be annoying at times. I still recommend it, especially if you’re a fan of the zombie genre! 🧟

I enjoyed it as much as the first game. I'd say I was satisfied with the continuation of the story, some new characters and enemies were cool as well. If you loved the first game totally worth playing.
