Unfortunately, the story is below average. The graphics are good for the time it was released. Although the gameplay becomes highly repetitive, the parkour mechanics are enough to keep you engaged and help cover its flaws. Despite a long time having passed since its release, bugs still disrupt the experience. I enjoyed it well enough. But once I'd finished the main story, I had zero interest in playing any more. Unlike with DL1, where I'd happily waste hours farming better weapons and blueprints. Overall, it’s an above-average game, but one that fails to meet expectations.
Hello to all my fellow Steam users out there :) [My Review After Finishing The Game] Dying Light 2 is the kind of game that asks a simple question: “What if parkour was perfect, zombies were everywhere, and your character had the immune system of a wet napkin?” And honestly? It mostly nails it. First, the movement. This game makes running across rooftops feel so good that you’ll actively avoid the ground like it owes you money. Vaulting, climbing, sliding—everything flows so smoothly that you’ll forget there’s a fast travel system because why would you ever use it? I came to kill zombies and ended up auditioning for a post-apocalyptic parkour Olympics. Then there are the zombies, who are doing their absolute best despite clearly being dead. During the day, they’re slow, ugly, and perfect for stress relief. At night, however, they turn into Olympic sprinters with anger issues. The game politely warns you that nighttime is dangerous, and if you ignore it, it teaches you a valuable lesson called instant regret. The combat is satisfyingly brutal. Smacking a zombie with a metal pipe feels weighty, especially when that pipe breaks mid-fight and forces you to rethink your life choices. Weapon durability is back, because nothing says “survival horror” like watching your favorite machete disintegrate after three enemies and a mild breeze. The story exists—and that’s not an insult. It gives you choices that feel important, even if sometimes the consequences are “this area is now purple instead of blue.” Still, the world reacts to you enough that you feel responsible for your actions, which is impressive considering you spend most of your time kicking infected off rooftops for fun. Visually, the game looks great. The city of Villedor is grimy, colorful, and somehow cozy for a place overrun by monsters. The soundtrack knows exactly when to hype you up and when to quietly remind you that you are very alone and mildly doomed. Dying Light 2 is a fantastic open-world zombie game with top-tier parkour, satisfying combat, and just enough horror to keep your heart rate legally questionable. It’s not perfect, but when a game makes you smile while being chased across rooftops by screaming mutants, it’s doing something very right. Would definitely risk nighttime again (but complain about it loudly). Score: 8.5/10 See you all in the game :) Happy Hunting Zombies ....
9.0/10 I'm glad I waited three and a half years after the game's release to play it, because by now most of the infuriating critical bugs have been fixed, numerous optimizations have been implemented overall, and some interesting new content has been added. All in all, it offers a much better experience compared to launch. That said, some noticeable bugs still linger. While they don't severely impact gameplay, they do slightly detract from the overall experience—like rain falling indoors in enclosed spaces, or previously explored locations still displaying question marks on the map, among other quirks. From a gameplay perspective, it's fair to say DL2 builds upon its predecessor with richer content. Both combat and parkour have gained numerous engaging additions, while many minor details have been further refined, delivering a more exhilarating play experience. Ultimately, this is largely due to standing on the shoulders of giants. The foundational excellence of DL1 provided ample room for DL2 to build upon. However, some additions feel redundant or overly complex—at least not universally appreciated. Take the bounty mission system: designed to sustain long-term engagement, it even introduces daily and weekly objectives. Yet clearly, not everyone appreciates this overly structured, work-like routine. So while it appears to be a major feature of DL2, a portion of players simply won't enjoy this aspect. Thankfully, we're finally spared from things like DL1's “Hellraid.” Honestly, DL1 is a perfect game in my book overall—except for the “Hellraid” segment, which I'd give a 3/10 at best. From a narrative standpoint, while it can't compare to DL1, DL2's story itself isn't bad. Overall, it tells a complete, self-contained tale with a logical beginning and end, and some NPC characterizations are quite memorable. However, this apocalyptic theme is incredibly clichéd. Countless outstanding works have explored similar subjects decades before DL2's 2022 release. Thus, players eagerly anticipate how such a well-worn topic can be presented with freshness and compelling storytelling. Unfortunately, I must say DL2's narrative leans toward the mundane—not terrible, but lacking any real brilliance. Interestingly, I guessed many of the plot twists and mysteries early on. By the time they were revealed in the mid-to-late game, my reaction was simply, “Oh, so that's how it is. Not surprising at all.” Even more curiously, some of its narrative techniques and character dialogue felt eerily reminiscent of common anime tropes. Many scenes made me feel like I was playing a JRPG or watching Japanese anime... I wonder if I'm the only one who felt this way. All in all, despite its flaws, DL2 remains an unmissable masterpiece. After three and a half years of patches and refinements, the current version offers a relatively polished experience. But perhaps it's because DL1 delivered such immense shock and delight back then, becoming a monumental masterpiece in the hearts of many players, including myself. That's why we tend to scrutinize DL2 with stricter and more critical eyes. Regardless, I still highly recommend DL2 to every player who loved DL1.
Paid for this in September 2023 and just now been grinding the past 3 weeks trying to beat it before The Beast. I did not make it! The game is way bigger than I originally thought it was! THE MAP IS GIGANTIC! I've put around 60+ hours in in just 3 weeks and that's doing a lil bit of everything...I def recommend the game! They have improved everything (almost) I am very happy with my experience and might play new game+ after The Beast! Just get it! Hop over the fence! The game is really good!
