tl;dr Despite the now frequent crashes in the DX edition, you should get it if it's on sale and you like a tower defense genre game with a good story. I'll be honest, I couldn't even tell you when I got this game. Probably circa 2012 when it came out and I was really into tower defense games. Add a good story and female protag to that and I'm hooked. Recently came back to it because I saw the second one had released and I sunk like 7 hours of my day into this. It's crashing every hour or so, which is new, and I'm certainly not feeling particularly completionist on this go around which can get really grind-y as I recall, but I'm really enjoying the story and dialogue and gameplay all over again, so I'll definitely be seeing it through to the end in any case. For (probably) $15 I've gotten nearly 40 hours of enjoyment out of this game and by the time I finish this playthrough (and possibly the NG+ on this save file, we'll see) I'll probably be closer to 50. The last movie that I saw that was worth $15 was Iron Lung, and that was only like 3 hours of movie, so I'd say this one is worth it.

One of the games that doesn't get old. One of the games that has a soul. P.S. Mr. James "Devilishly Handsome Lead Writer" Cavin, you did an outstanding job. The story, the characters, the dialogs, the journal entries - every bit of writing in this game is fantastic.

TL;DR Yes if you are looking for a casual fun tower defense experience, warning if you are a completionist: A fun RPG tower defense to sink some time into. There's lots to learn and enjoy with character skill trees, unique weapons and armor, and even many secrets! I had a great time progressing and everything felt smooth right up until the 195/201 gold star range. This is where this game gets INCREDIBLY finnicky. There are 2 amazing steam guides to get you 2 of these stars but all of the obsidian skull levels are very serious. You will be playing on 1/4x speed with 6 of each class that have to have perfect skills and placement. I found this pretty tedious, and if I didn't have those guides I would have given up for sure. Just a heads up that near the end of the game you will be spending more time building your party on your party menu than actually playing the game xD
