So far this is my favorite Kairosoft game I've played. The dungeon management aspect was really well done and allows a lot of creativity for monster combinations and traps. For instance my favorite setup was the punching machines in long hallways. Also wasn't too grindy either, the grindiest part was filling the monster encyclopedia but even that didn't take too long. Only thing that could be done better and its the same for every kairosoft game is if they added a toggle for the pop-ups. But overall was really fun and do recommend.
I can understand the negative reviews, but this is one of my favorite Kairosoft games! I always recommend playing these games on controller since the mouse/keyboard combo is not very great. Like all Kairosoft games, I love their little humor, and it always catches me off guard when I see a random adventurer shout "I'm DTF!" Or when I evolved a little Broccoli and his evolution was called "Gorrest Fump." The vibe I got from this was reverse Dungeon Village, or like Disgaea series, where I was the demon lord, and I had monster catching to do to protect my dungeon against the adventurers! It was fun building a maze of a dungeon, although there was hardly any idle time because there was a pop-up every other second letting me know about a demon that wanted to join, or a new raid party coming to the dungeon, or a new special item is available in the Adventurer's Town and it's time to raid!! Besides all the pop-ups, I didn't have to worry about combos like other games, and it was fun to evolve my monsters (some up to three times) or catch dungeon bosses. I really like the music used in this game, although it can get stale unless you're like me who could listen to the same two-three songs for weeks on end. At the end game, I forgot to turn on fast mode for two years, haha. Then I was just buying everything from the store but it was pretty tedious, and just bulk-feeding my monsters to get their stats up. I also recommend exploring most dungeons to level 9-10 for all the monsters and catching one of each for the achievements!
Kairosoft games are a special kind of cosy comfy thing, and if you know them, you'll love this. This is one of their most chill and pleasant games, if I'm honest. The different creatures are all really cute and fun, and the mechanic of gift-giving and motivating your minions becomes a major part of the game, which is nice because it keeps you busy. But not so busy that it becomes stressful. It's not too difficult to lay out a dungeon that does what it needs to do. It is fun to figure out aesthetically-pleasing ways to arrange your castle, though, especially figuring in the helpful decor and traps that you get to develop. There's honestly so much you can choose to focus on that I never really found myself actively having to find something to occupy myself with, but I didn't really feel overwhelmed because you can close the gates and not have anyone coming in to fight you. You can go on expeditions, and it's a good idea because you'll get items and allies from these adventures. You also get to have parties! There are some really great items you can use too, like the souvenir stand, to take adventurers' coin without having to fight it out of them. You can also provide them with save points or even beds, which of course will also benefit you with money. There are many valid ways to do a castle in this, and you even get to choose very different fighting styles, like close combat, magic, ranged, and more. There's so much here, and it's really cute and fun. It has the usual charm of Kairosoft, so if you enjoy their output, you'll certainly enjoy this. If you're new to Kairosoft, you'll probably still have a lot of fun with this game, if you enjoy the kind of game it is. It's a fairly relaxed dungeon management game, essentially, but it has a lot of delightful details that will keep you occupied for a long time. You also get a new game+ mode, so as always it's good to play multiple times through. Check it out if you get the urge to be the demon lord running a castle of various strange and wondrous creatures. It's excellent to play when you need to chill but want to engage your mind.
I own/have played about 90% of the Kairosoft games now and this one is definitely my favorite so far. instantly addicting. goofy monsters, silly traps, engaging gameplay, probably more customization than any previous Kairosoft game. you can really personalize your castle however you want. and also control the level of difficulty with the very helpful option of closing the doors to your castle whenever you start getting overwhelmed by invaders or need to regroup, heal up or change the layout around. this would make for the perfect companion piece to Dungeon Village except here the roles are reversed and those same adventurers are the enemy to your various castle monsters you collect along the way. Ive played the heck out of this since I got it and in a matter of days already achieved a level 5 rating for my castle, but unlike their other games when once I beat them I uninstall it and move onto the next game, with Demon Castle Story I intend to keep playing and see what else I can unlock for traps, monster merger combinations and locations to explore. a lot of creativity went into this game. after playing this so much Im even more curious to see what the fine folks at Kairosoft come out with next. I had a feeling Id love this game but it exceeded all expectations
