Haven't written a review in a while, but I think this game deserves one nonetheless because of the sheer astonishment it caused me. - Looking at this game you'd first assume it's a visual novel or something due to the screenshots and a lack of a concrete description (besides the tags). Next playing the game you'd assume this is sort of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with a Yume Nikki/Ena flavor due to the funky dialogue and nonsensical happening. Then it dawns on you that this is one of the best representations (In my opinion) of the horroristic nature of the Karmic Cycle and the fear of never ever being able to die completely, and going mad in perpetual reincarnation. - The thematic setup of the golem losing more and more of it's own self due to [Spoiler] constantly failing to reach nirvana , being carried only by glimpses of it's fading memories, and the narrative device of the Tower (Everyone climbs the tower) which one must climb creates a great feeling of determined nil feeling I haven't seen many times in games, the fruitlessness of the journey combined the Golem's naïveté when it comes it's own goal creates a Sisyphean struggle that I think was perfectly executed. - The jumbled mess of memories framed by the random babbling NPC's around the tower lends itself to the whole broken dream feeling while also being (this game's) reality so as to be even more disorientating to the player itself. The one thing that holds the golem together being Mel is also great, being that Mel is the the whole reason the Golem is trapped in the cycle , still having a companion who is just as lost as you are on a shared journey that really leads to nowhere. - The Buddhist themes are great, they give the game a certain frame that works really well while also not dabbling down into the religious aspect of it too much and just treating it more as a philosophical thing so as to not be patronizing. - Lightning round: Graphics are eye watering but the artstyle itself is perfect, the music is the main reason I played the game and it does not disappoint with it's pseudo Boards of Canada vibes, the combat is meh but it could have been worse, some of the memes in the game are really outdated and bring the game down a bit, some of the messaging was weird near the end, being political in nature when the game is more esoteric than that. - Overall: While short and not exactly being the most blood boilingly action filled game - I think Disillusion perfectly takes it's name's idea and delivers an experience that is both intriguing and moving. It's like an 8.5/10 (the art itself is 10/10 it's the game that brings itself down, bloody RPG Makeritis) Everyone climbs the Tower

Esoteric and weirdly beautiful, poignant. Simplistic RPG fights did get on my nerves with each new enemy but the strange writing and surreal locations and cutscenes did make up for it. CAWCAWCAW

If you like dungeon crawling RPGs and stuff like Yume Nikki, I think you'll like this. The looping music and repeating floor textures can be a bit grating, but I like the artstyle and atmosphere it creates (it takes obvious inspiration from LSD simulator (even including a small area directly referencing it)). Fun : )

What if the Windows 95 3D Maze screensaver (after you've customized the textures to be those weird psychedelic patterns) was a surreal RPG? What if it took you on a lil spiritual journey? What if it had a dope soundtrack? What if it ♥♥♥♥♥♥ slapped?

If I could rate a game neutral, this would definitely get that rating. (Also it plays great on Steam Deck a for confirm, start for menu and cancel) I was kinda expecting a dreamlike weird experience, and it is, but its also kind of basic as a first person dungeon crawler. It somewhat drags as you have no idea what is going on, but there is some interest and quirkyness to be had, especially if you explore and get into the 2nd half. It made me feel weird and kinda introspective, which I will count as a win.
