More hits than misses. A highly varied collection that is well worth your time (bar one game in particular). Brief review of each game from worst to best: 10. Rotgut (1/10) This game seems to actively delight in wasting the player's time. It might be alright if that was the point... however, it doesn't really feel like this game has any point to make at all, and seems to have very limited entertainment value to boot. All power to you if you “get” this game, but I sure as hell don’t. 9. The Pay is Nice (5/10) Most of the games here are surprisingly fleshed-out experiences… this one however seems very barebones. It is at least competent, and the atmosphere is pretty good, but the story (which seems to be the focus) is so one-note, and by the time we’ve heard “the pay is nice” for the tenth time in a row, the statement is robbed of any power it might have had. 8. Don't Go Out (6/10) Once you understand what you’re meant to be doing, this one is quite fun (though once you work out how to cheese it, it is an absolute cake-walk). What’s presented here is narrow in scope, but you can really see the potential with this one. 7. Carthnac (7/10) Love the unique graphics and atmosphere, and I’m all over the space archelogy theme. This game would be great if it wasn’t for the aliens / enemies who bum-rush you every 2 seconds and make the game go from engrossing adventure to absolute headache at points. They’re not scary, they’re just annoying, and it’s made especially worse by the overblown death animation. I would just get rid of the enemies and have it as a unique puzzle-platformer. 6. Mr Bucket Told Me To (7/10) Love the story being told here, but this time, it’s the oversimplified gameplay that lets it down a little. Also, I think the island is a bit too big / your movement speed is a bit too slow leading to a lot of dead-air when you’re just going from place-to-place. But really lovely atmosphere and great use of psychological horror. 5. The Pony Factory (7.5/10) Now we’re getting into the more positive half of the list. This game is dripping in atmosphere, and it’s extremely tense at points. It’s also hard as nails, but in a way that feels like it’s your own fault every time you fail, unlike with Carthnac that often just feels cheap. The only reason that this isn’t rated higher is personal preference, as this kind of game isn’t really my cup of tea. But game recognises game, and I think this is super well made for what it is. 4. Shatter (8/10) The worldbuilding is perhaps the strongest out of any game on this list. It’s more of an existential type of horror, thanks to this super well-realized apocalypse scenario that feels way bigger than the game it relates to. This could be an incredible full-length game… but even the small slice we get here manages to stay with you long after the credits roll. 3. Summer Night (9/10) A masterclass in horror. Textbook buildup achieved through innovating on established mechanics with every run-through. Unlike some of the others here that act as demos/intros for potential full-length games, this game just is the complete experience, and it never lets up for a minute. That ending though! 2. Hand of Doom (9/10) A personal favourite that probably won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but this is so up my street. I adore the retro pc gaming vibes here, love the spellcasting system, love the atmosphere and graphics, everything is just firing on all cylinders. When I figured out the sprint spell through trial and error, I knew I was on for a winner with this one. In fact, I found this game so charming that I purchased the full version from steam and I’m really looking forward to my playthrough. 1. Outsiders (10/10) This game is worth the price of admission alone. It boggles the mind how a game of this calibre was made in such a short space of time. By far the scariest and most anxiety-inducing game of the collection, and one of the scariest games I’ve ever played period. Genuine horror genius here. And what is more, this game is so immensely satisfying to figure out, and knows precisely when and in what capacity to nudge the player along, so much so that you’ll never really need a guide – though I would recommend playing the slightly easier “set-seed” version your first go around. Unlike most of the other games in the collection, this game also has replay value, since you can play the harder version where all the item locations are randomized every run. The twist is brilliant and well worth all the time you put in to seeing it. It really is a full experience and is perhaps the only game here that lives up to the legacy of P.T. No notes, chef’s kiss, a must-play for all horror game fans.

Hard to beat the value for your money with a 10 game anthology in this game. It's definitely worth the price. The game took me about 6 hours to beat, and the games you play range in graphics style and overall quality considerably. Many of the games are pretty great and would have made excellent stand alone games, there is at least one that is not up to par with the others but 1 out of 10 isn't bad. There are definitely moments of humor baked into the experience and I found myself looking forward to seeing what each game had to offer as I played through. There are, as of writing this, 5 of these collections (this being the first). The quality of this experience has me excited to check out the rest of the games in the series. If you'd like to check out a play through of the game, I humbly offer mine from my YouTube Channel: https://youtu.be/58nIg04L4SM If you are so inclined, please subscribe to the channel (it's free). It is extremely helpful, and much appreciated. Thanks!

I recommend every game except for Carthanc. Carthanc is the only game in this collection that is complete dogshit. Everything is blurry even while on low graphics, the platforming is absolute ass, and the fucking things that chase you around the entire map is relentless. You also cannot change your mouse sensitivity in this one specific game, which sucks because you need to make quick turns to get the last piece. AND IF YOU DIE, YOU HAVE TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN. Every other game is semi-balanced or has a difficulty change if it proves too hard EXCEPT FOR THIS!! These games are amazing, but the last game is just too hard to complete.

Dread x is a collection of small indie horror games made in 7 days. I briefly wrote a review of every game. Summer night Lcd game made into a terrifying horror game. One of the highlights. The pay is nice. Forgettable game which just ends when you think it's starting to get good. Carthanc Another banger game. You explore a tomb and do a bit of puzzle solving. Mr bucket told me to Survival game with a funny theme. Hand of doom Game made to look like a dos game. The old d&d vibe makes it's scary and it's an another highlight. The pony factory At first I judged it by the name but the visuals and fast fps action makes it great. Outsiders Game where you roam aimlessly and die. Not good. Shatter Please make this into a full game it has so much potential. Looks good, interesting world and good atmosphere. Rotgut Runs bad and feels unfinished. Don't go out Pixelated strategy game which can be beaten in 5 mins. The collection does what it promises and I think most games are good fun experiences. pick this up.
