Hours Played: Enough to feel like a one‑man (or one‑team) insecticide army Verdict: ⚠️ Mixed‑Positive (Ridiculous Fun, Not Perfect) Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon is unapologetic giant bug‑smashing chaos full of explosions, absurd weapons, and ridiculous enemy waves and that’s exactly why fans adore it. The core gameplay is simple but gloriously so: hordes of giant insects, robots, and alien monstrosities swarm every mission, and your job is to blast them back into the tarantula‑sized history books. The sheer variety of weapons from machine guns to rocket launchers to “why does this exist” death machines keeps each firefight explosive and unpredictable. This isn’t a tactical shooter; it’s arcade‑style, over‑the‑top action where strategy is often “shoot first, worry later.” Enemies explode, buildings crumble, and your squadmates call out cheesy lines that make you smile even as you’re swarmed by fifty ants the size of cars. However, it is a bit rough around the edges. Visuals are dated, enemy pathing can be goofy, and missions sometimes feel repetitive once you’ve seen every bug type a few dozen times. The story is basically an excuse to blow stuff up, and it doesn’t pretend to be anything more. What Insect Armageddon does right: * Insane, explosive action against massive hordes * Huge variety of fun, chaotic weapons * Ridiculous, laugh‑out‑loud moments * Great pick‑up‑and‑play arcade vibe Where it struggles: * Dated graphics and presentation * Repetitive mission designs over time * AI and enemy behavior can be goofy * Story is minimal Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon isn’t deep but it’s wildly entertaining when you just want to mow down giant bugs with a smile. If you love cheesy action, absurd weapons, and pure blast‑em‑up fun, this is a classic guilty pleasure. If you want polish or narrative depth, look elsewhere.

Steve Blum, the one and only Spike Spiegel, voices the player-character. The English VA in general is pretty solid for an EDF game. Good art direction and sound. Weapons feel pretty limited compared to other games in the series, and there are only 15 missions total. Each one is probably longer than most EDF 4 levels, but the game still feels way too short. Still worth it for the price. The game also gives you two AI squadmates in single player, which is great. They can even resurrect you, and each other. You don't get many allies in this game, but I do wish the other titles had player stand-ins like this.

a little repetitive, but good fun! ironically has better progression and voice acting than the mainline games

very short but not a gateway to the series bcs it's a spinoff that plays different mechanically. especially the singleplayer maps is Linear point to point, departure from usual big sandbox of mainline EDF games. Locked class weapons, & weapon purchase system also limits the usual experiment freedom loadouts from mainline EDF games. still fun & mindless shooting Insects tho
