Dec. 2025
Probably the best indie survival horror game I've ever played. Really channels the RE games from the 90’s/early 00's, especially Code Veronica. Aside from a few bugs, which are actively addressed by the devs, the game is excellent. Graphics and maps are nice. There are some very unique camera angles on certain maps that are really cool. A considerable amount of time was spent om the zombie models and even with making sure there is a good variety of different zombies throughout the game. Story and voice acting are meh, but that essentially means that they are at least as good as the original RE games. Even more recent RE games are quite corny, so it's pretty standard for this type of survival horror game. I see several reviews saying the game is too difficult. Survival horror games are meant to be difficult, folks. But I would actually argue that this game is not difficult enough. If you ration your ammo it's impossible to run out, so I haven't gotten soft-locked by running out of bullets or something like that, which is quite common for survival horror titles. Chronos: New Dawn for example, is very, very difficult even with modern controls. Every single bulllet counts, and when you run out, you are basically cooked. Echoes of the loving is much more forgiving on the ammo and resource front than other games. I think the people complaining are inexperienced players who have perhaps never played a survival horror game before. With the new storylines coming, this game gets a 10/10 from me. If you like the original RE games, this is definitely worth your time and money. I only wish there were a way to better support the work of the devs. I feel like 24€ is not enough for the time and care they put into this game.

I was aware how small the team behind this game is. But seeing these few names while the credits were roling, I still felt baffled. Let me write down my feelings after roughly 22 hours of total playtime (one campaign cleared). The good: Echoes of the Living is a love letter to classic surivial horror games. It combines tank controls, inventory, static camera, ammo management and puzzles with fighting hordes and hordes of the blood thirsty undead. It takes these beloved bread toppings and more from the oldschool Resident Evil games and succeeds (for the most part) to make its own (Jill) sandwich. The game comes with almost constant tention. Whenever you pick up a key item and you track back to a locked door, you feel the thread of something lurking in the dark, windows will shatter, car doors are being torn open and the former dead come (somewhat) alive. And all of this in fantastic to look at environments. Echoes of the Living rewards exploration and the smart usage of items. It is satisfying to blow limbs from enemies and preserving ammo to use in tough situations later. What I really, really appreciate is the fact that the exploration aspect stays mostly on the same level the entire game, with the Alba City being the biggest location to explore. While classic Resident Evil games are mostly limited on one or two locations you can get lost in, Echoes of the Living has exploration and puzzle solving from start to finish. Playing with a controller really put me back into the golden age. Lastly, I also want to praise the sound design. Environment and music sound fantastic. Well, with one little thing to adress (see below). To my shame, I must confess that I didn't knew that Mono Memory was part of the sound design team. Only when I saw their name in the credits, I was like: "Yeah, I hear it now". The mixed: It is natural that a game of this kind is dark. But I had to turn up brighness by 3 levels from the very beginning to see my suroundings better. And I'm glad this option is in the game. However, missing is (November 22th 2025) the option to disable the rumble feature. I was never a fan of this, and even though I appreciate how it adds to the constant tension (especially when something like a window is shattering), I'd like to see this being optional. The puzzles are a mixed bag. Sometimes they feel surprisingly easy, and then you sit for ten minutes to figure the solution out. Maybe I missed a note, but it would be nice if the crafting system for scraps and electronic parts would be explained. The voice acting is fine for the most part. I know that Kai Morgan, aka Ink Ribbon, is not an voice actor. He did a good job lenting his voice to the character of Liam. However, the writing of the dialogues is rather below average, feels unnatural and forced from time to time. Which is surprising, to be honest. Because the notes you find which tell the story in small separated pieces are well written. It would also be nice if you could inspect weapons just like other items. The bad: Enemy hit detection need to get adressed. Sometimes enemies have i-frames (invincible), especially when they are getting up. Unfortunately, the same is not true for the player character. When two enemies are engaging, you can easily be sandwiched. Very frustrating is the inventory management with the box. Every time you pick up an item it moves you back to the very top of the box. At some points, I used my mouse for better inventory management, which shouldn't be a thing. I think some items could stand out more. I appreciate that many items are shiny, but I totally missed the bucket for example. Making it more silver and/or bigger would be helpful. The hardest time I had with the game is finding some doors. I don't know how Resident Evil did it, but I never had problems seeing or finding doors. Here, in this game though, doors and passages are sometimes very hard to find. The pub location was very frustrating in this regard. I'd like to recommend to add a "skip cutscene" function into the game. The Resident Evil community is vast and likes to speedrun, especially the old games. Adding a option in this game would be highly appreciated for sure. One of the most frustrating things is the hit detection when swinging a melee weapon. Multiple times I was microseconds away from hitting an enemy with a melee weapon, and then I was grabbed by them. At least, it should end in a tie where both opponents are pushed away from each other. The last thing I want to mention here is that it would be nice if there is a bit more polishing when it comes to environment sounds when entering a already visited area. Enemies are still moaning and screaming after you have entered the location, even though they are already defeated. To summarize: Echoes is a love letter to classic Resident Evil games. It is surprisingly polished for a game with such a small team behind it. Good gameplay like exploring new areas, finding new items, fighting the undead and the (almost) constant thrill makes up for the not-so-great stuff like the box management, path-finding and the sometimes gringe dialogues. I'm looking forward to see the next campaign and what the team behind Echoes of the Living is capable of in the future.

The game is absolutely amazing 🎮🔥✨ A truly unforgettable experience 💯🌟 **The game is absolutely amazing!** I finished Liam’s story and really enjoyed it for many reasons: **Story:** The story is fantastic, but it really needs more language options for subtitles. **Puzzles:** Outstanding! 100% perfect. **Weapons:** Great and varied, but they need clearer descriptions of their abilities and damage levels. Honestly, I didn’t feel much difference between weapons of the same type. **Playtime:** The game is impressively long, which I absolutely love. I even wish it were longer, with more variety when replaying the story. **Overall atmosphere:** Beautiful and immersive — the graphics, sounds, and environments are all excellent. --- ### Things That Need Improvement **Bosses:** Overall, boss fights are average. They lack variety and true horror elements. Once you learn their movements, defeating them becomes way too easy. **Regular enemies:** Nice variety (zombies, dogs, etc.), but they’re also easy to deal with. There isn’t enough challenge or fear factor — their difficulty level feels medium overall. **Character visuals during cutscenes:** There are noticeable visual glitches during cinematic scenes, unlike the great visuals during gameplay. **Character and enemy movement:** Animations need major improvement — some movements look off or unnatural. --- ### Other Issues That Should Be Fixed Immediately 1. **Maps:** When I first bought the game, maps were missing (they were added later, which is good), but they still need improvement. For example, I’d like to move freely between all areas without having to walk manually to each place. Also, new areas should appear on the map progressively as they’re discovered — this is important for maintaining the horror atmosphere. 2. **Weapon switching:** It’s frustrating that there are no quick-switch buttons for weapons during gameplay. I have to open the inventory every time to change weapons. 3. **Inventory interface:** Inventory management could be smoother. Please add manual sorting buttons and let players move up and down the item list easily — it gets very annoying when there are many items stored. The same issue happens with the **Files** interface — switching between many documents is uncomfortable. 4. **Technical bugs:** There are several issues, such as: * No “Back to Main Menu” button when starting a new game. * The screen froze after finishing the story; I had to reload four times before it completed. * Aiming buttons sometimes get stuck after opening the inventory. * Occasional button lag and frame drops when entering new areas or during autosave. * Other small bugs that I can’t remember in detail. 5. **Cutscene skipping:** Skipping scenes is only possible in some cutscenes, but not all. Please make it available for every scene. 6. **Game saving:** At the start, saving is manual using save devices/discs, but later in the game it becomes automatic, and manual saving is disabled — this was quite annoying. Manual saving should always remain available throughout the game. --- ### Message to the Developers My overall rating: **The game is truly wonderful!** It kept me playing for days nonstop. I really hope you fix the issues and improve the controls — please keep developing more chapters and stories, because this game truly has great potential! **Current rating:** 70% **If all bugs and movement issues are fixed:** 90% ⭐⭐⭐⭐

A cut above the rest. First off, the game isn't perfect, -save bugs and a soft-lock in the bar safe room. -maybe a bit too long for a save room when you first get into the streets. before the bar. -some areas are a bit tight for how many zombies there are. That being said, this game nails everything else! For a 2 person team this game is a F-ing 11/10! Beautiful environments, tight movement and attention to detail rivals RE1 remake....which is just crazy. The jank is so minimal ,which, could almost fool you into thinking Capcom b-team made this. Ive never liked tormented souls 1/2 because it always felt like the games were missing... soul ...and were just over-complicated and overwhelming. This game avoids both those trappings with a lively environment distincitive and creative. If you don't like classic survival horror, with backtracking, tank controls and inventory management, why would you play this game and badly review it....its all written on the steam page clear as day! lol
