It's a hard recommendation. The game is well made, full of love, with unique animations, interesting story and a cast filled with lovable and fun characters. But at the same time it also full of issues related to every single of these great aspects. There are 100s of heroes to be recruited in this game, with over 70 of them being usable in combat. Each of these heroes are unique, have their own niches, strengths and weaknesses, therefore, the combat system have to be as tepid and shallow as a puddle as a result. Boss fights have unique gimmicks that makes them unique, but the tradeoff is the common encounters become a slow grind. The implementation of auto battles without a speed up button is a big problem. The cast of 100 heroes are also huge. Each of them have their own story and reason they join the alliance. But that is it. There is no pay off. Once they join, unless they are important to the main plot, that is the limit to their story, save from hotsprings that allows heroes to interact with each other. In order to remedy this, sidequests which unlocks as story progress involving combinations of heroes, granting unique rewards would have been greatly beneficial to the length and interest in this game. As it stands, a lot of fun petered out by the end of the game. And then there are the minigames and all the different systems that are implemented throughout the game, ohhhh man. There are so much vestigial systems that are just useless and not fun to play like duel and wars. Minigames are fun, but the requirement to complete them drags on to the point where they all overstayed their welcome. 17 cooking battles? 120 card games? Racing breeding minigame with limited number of race for the creature you race with? Really? There is a lot of love and a lot to love in this game. But there's also a lot of problems with it. So keep that in mind. It's still a fun enough game that deserves a recommendation.

Eiyuden Chronicles: I recruited 100+ heroes, forgot some of their names. Hilarious theater scripts. Shi'arc race on gamepad? Glitchy—I had to switch to keyboard to win. Both Beigoma and the card game drag on like chores, and the secret mini-boss only looks scary if your team isn’t set up. No option to skip cutscenes. Yet somehow, the soul of Suikoden is still there—and that’s why I spent 200+ hours of my adult life with this. No regerts , 100% completed, -1 backlog.

Pretty much agree with what everyone else here has already said. If you have an itch to play a JRPG Suikoden clone; this feels that niche very well. Very unpolished and lots of annoying game design choices but worth it overall just barely. The mini games are very grindy and take forever. The story doesn't really go anywhere and the stakes are rather low throughout. Mages are pretty much useless until late game, then they are super OP with rune setup and gear abusing SP. I enjoyed my time with the game but it's something I will never replay. 6/10 - recommend but only on sale.

After 15 hours played, it seems a great jRPG to me. I used to play a lot of them on the PSX and PS2 in my old times (along with the Fire Emblems on the Nintendo consoles), and I totally loved Suikoden 1 & 2 (especially the latter), and I also enjoyed Suikoden 5 as well (Suikoden 3 never reached my country, alas). This game here is unapologetically reminescent of Suikoden2, yet it still shows some rather unexpected moments (like, living in the city under siege, etc), and overall the story has a good tempo and the important characters seem well written. There's a lot of tongue-in-cheek humor about the many anime-style tropes that I appreciate (I'm a University Professor in my forties now: I'm no longer a teenager who could get moved by hearing about the 'power of friendship' and stuff like that). Somethin' is still unpolished here and there, but they are (very) minor issues. The game mechanics is actually better and smoother than that of Suikoden 1 & 2, more tactical: I enjoyed the boss battles with gimmicks (yes, it's the game that calls it like that!), they give some thrill to a game that otherwise would be extremely easy (like Suikoden 1, 2, 5 after all). Strategic battles and duels are rather chaotic and unclear, but so were in Suikoden 1 & 2 too so I don't consider that a problem. The main shortcoming of this game is that if feels somewhat of "manneristic", like it's following a "formula" rather than a sincere new path or idea. Anyway, the "formula" (i.e. Suikoden 2) was very good indeed, and so much time has passed since I played a new Suikoden that I appreciate a lot even this new iteration of the same concept. Overall, if Suikoden was a 8.5/10, Suikoden 2 a full 10/10, and Suikoden 5 a 8/10, for now this game seems a solid 8.5 to me.

Complaints: - Terrible mini games, especially the necessary ones to recruit characters. No joke, I hate all the mini games so much. Especially the beyblade bullshit game. - Can't change the control / button mapping...cmon you're not some 1 man dev and this was released in 2024. The negative reviews I read from steam can be applied to all other Suikoden games. Cmon. If you love Suikoden, you'd love this one. There's even complaint about enemy encounter, which I think the rate is already kinda lower compared to other JRPG. Other than that, this game is amazing. - Story 7/10 - Mini Games: 2/10 - Combat 8.5/10 You can feel the need of proper strategy in battles, especially early game. - Duel scenes 10/10 - Art 10/10 - Music 8.5/10 Overall 8/10, it can be better but it's already amazing as it is. Maybe just make the main char walks faster without the running support guy.
