"Review from a solo player" This game is really fun just needs a few adjustments...You can unlock almost every weapon/skill in about 10 hours maybe this is good for some but i like games where you have to complete a run using said item/skill in order to unlock another and this can be randomized for replayability think Binding of Issac or even Hades to a lesser extent but it forced you to use every skill in order to unlock collectables and really see different builds...There should be more skills...there's a great deal of weapons (9 with DLC) to use with about 32 skills not bad, there should probably be about 5 skills per 1 weapon (not counting the "actual" weapon skills) so there should be at least 45 skills...this is overall a fantastic game just add some more skills :)

This is one of the easiest recommendations I've ever made since this is one of the best local co-op roguelikes on the market currently. Of all local co-op games we've ever played this holds 2nd place for us, right below Wizard of Legend. The gameplay loop is simple and satisfying. You have 2 sets of five worlds, each with their own enemies, elites, champions, minibosses and bosses. Rooms are varied along with the enemies, and the pixel art is beautiful. (Not on the level of Wizard of Legend or Children of Morta but still.) There are many ways in which you can grow stronger, such as permanent skill tree upgrades, spell upgrades and weapon upgrades, all of which lend themselves to a great feeling of progression. There's also a story here, it's not really some deep lore stuff (except for Ibrahim and his crazy sister look it up), but it's serviceable and there's also cool animated cutscenes which we greatly appreaciate! The combat is done really well with the animations and the SFX, and the game is remarkably balanced. It's just good ol' and plain ol' fun to keep it short. So much so that we completed all the 135 Achievements and HAD FUN doing it! Shoutouts to kemulli! We never thought we would do them all lol they seemed so daunting. Beware of Geo the Worldender.

GREAT GAME BUT THEY KILLED THE BEST WEAPON This is a great game to play with friends as well as fun fast paced combat. For some reason they decided that hammer players dont get to enjoy fast paced combat though. So they took my son (hammer) out behind the shed and gave it the old yeller treatment. I just want to have a build option with hammer that doesnt require I si there and take it in the ass while charging. Or punish me for not using the charge by making me lose 2 passive slots. also making the dash attack charges was prob fine cause it was strong but still feels bad. Highly recommend the game though. Just dont touch the hammer, not even fun anymore.

main game 9/10 DLC 8/10 - point deduction for lazy map- & story-making and lack of content (only two new knights) - this might change in future updates, in which case I'd gladly give it a 9 or 10 Gives me a ton of d1 & d2 vibes, which is very refreshing at an age where most games seem to be shameless cash-grabs. - you can play this game over and over again (even takes some runs to really get into it) - you can play co-op as up to 4 - simple but not stale - micro-transaction free, no loot-chests (except Mimic King I guess) Some tweaks (e.g. boss mechanics, randomization of the worlds...) and this game would be a 10.

Ember Knights is a stellar rogue-like experience. Just like Hades, progression between runs feels rewarding and fun. Though the story has much to be desired, Ember Knights has an array of choices based on your play style. The weapons and their modifiers exemplify player choice and replayability. Each weapon feels unique, and even more so with the modifiers. This comes from a single-player experience, and one can only imagine the possibilities of a full squad. The soul's system feels a little grindy, but with up to 30 perks to choose from, each player can choose the bonuses that best fit their play style. From greedy to safe, from proactive to reactive, there is genuinely a lot of variety. However, there is little reason to change from your usual choices. When you finish the ember tree using the soul system, there is a safety net for using up your excess souls: Arlan's shop. It allows players to start off with a relic for a run. It makes the soul system worthwhile; compared to Hades, this system is superior. Relics and skills consistently increase in option the more you play, each new unlock giving you the sense of "Oh, I wonder how I can use this". And with so many relics, you always feel like there's some new feature around the corner. The elephant in the room: The Skill Tablets. Where weapon modifiers succeed, the skill tablets fail. It feels pointless to upgrade them as you're never guaranteed to get a skill. They cost the same currency as weapon modifiers, so they're just left behind, and unlike the weapon modifiers, the upgrades are linear and do not impact the skills in any major way. Cosmetic customisation is excellent. Daily Runs. WOHOOO! They hit the nail on the head with this one. Competing with others over the best time on the daily with worthwhile soul rewards and cosmetics keeps early-game players engaged and provides a mix-up with the typical dungeon run. The difficulty modifiers give a great way to spice up gameplay when you and your team are breezing through the game. However, there needs to be more incentive to go past 15 energy. I would have liked to have seen more currencies affected by the difficulty modifier without a max energy cap, so there's always a reason to go for more challenging runs. Doom Turtle made something absolutely amazing, and I am truly thankful to have experienced such a fantastic game.
