The civilization devs simply played this game and copied everything for their own. I prefer the original to a pale copy. French qualitat.

I absolutely love this game and I have been playing it for over a decade. Even now I would absolutely recommend it. It goes on sale pretty often so if you are curious I would totally recommend giving it a shot.

Switch to high resolution UI in the settings - Suitable for genre noobs - Not the most modern, but manageable - Not forcing you to know the lore or whatever - Do not auto-battle, go manual, it's good So, the game is simple and a banger at the same time. A lot of tiny things to account for, a lot of minor details that make the whole picture. I was planning to check it for like 10 minutes and instantly got hooked for almost two hours. Wiped a few civilization for fun and power, saved some random savages since they offered a good quest to collaborate on.

A 4X game of real personality. A veteran of many hundreds of hours spent playing various versions of Civ, at first I found it a tougher transition to this game than I was expecting. But the heroes and the questline bring an interest of individual units that is largely missing in Civ. And compared to Civ the various races are much more distinct in their character. It doesn't have quite the epic feel of Civ, but these days I find myself enjoying Endless Legend more. Highly recommended!

My experience with 4X games is quite superficial, but from what I've seen, Endless Legend seems to be an excellent game. Or at least it's new enough to benefit from several quality-of-life improvements and be quite intuitive and seemingly balanced (and not hurt the eyes), and old enough not to cost an arm and a leg. For a novice like me looking for highly customizable and replayable casual fun, the game definitely hits the spot. With a satisfying learning curve and those classic, highly addictive dynamic progression loops, the prospect is that many, many hours of quality fun will pass before I reach a point where things need to be shaken up by mods. For someone not at all dedicated to learning how to play the game well and watching guides on YouTube, i'm more than comfortable with my glacial and mediocre progress. The game is appropriately adjusted so as not to excessively punish an inept player, but capable of putting some pressure to force them to learn. That said, I don't know what the game's multiplayer scene is like, or even if it exists. And from what I've researched, the enemy AI is easily defeated by some tactics, especially abusing the diplomacy system or using more aggressive tactics at the beginning. This is one of those games where, on higher difficulties, the enemy basically doesn't play better, but rather, the game cheats in their favor. This can apparently be mitigated using mods, but I haven't reached the point where it was necessary. The tutorial, by the way, is terrible. It teaches half the game and then throws you into the playground without much direction. They even forget to tell you what you have to do to win. The gameplay is intuitive and easy to grasp through experimentation, but it's worth reading the manual or looking for a summary somewhere else. The presentation is simple, but it doesn't disappoint. The UI is very good. The music is appropriate. And for an original fantasy universe, it has a lot of charm and personality. However simple they may be, some faction quests are surprisingly interesting from a world-building perspective. The writing is quite vivid and does a good job of selling whatever it's trying to convey. I especially liked the Broken Lords. I recommend searching on Google to check out the artwork. Overall, a solid game, surprisingly beginner-friendly, highly replayable, offers rewarding complexity, and runs perfectly smoothly. If you've always wanted to check out the genre and were intimidated by those 4+ hour Civilization tutorials and thousands of icons, I think this one is a good pick.
