Time is a government conspiracy engineered by the bourgeoisie to convince you that playing this game is less important than fulfilling the social contract through labor. Is it really bedtime, or is it time instead to hunt shroud roots to complete the Battlemage skill tree before the first rays of sunlight pierce through the blinds?

I'll start by saying this is a beautiful with devs that work really hard and care alot about their project. BUT Imagine the satisfaction of mining in Minecraft BUT you have to manually hit E to collect Every. Single. Block. Forget the combat jank and the movement jank forget all that I can deal with that. My partner wants to build. I want to collect. Collection requires me to beat my E key like it stole something from me. We need any crop, wood ect well my index finger is screaming please god no. I am not the first or last to bring this up and honestly after over 10 years on Steam this is like my 3rd review ever. Please please PLEASE fix the E spam or we might not be revisting this game again no matter how many capaybaras they add.

I love this game, I just wish the 6 friends who forced me to buy it for $30 didn't stop playing it after 2 hours.

🛡️ Enshrouded – 100+ Hours Later, Here’s Where It Stands (June 23, 2025) I've been playing Enshrouded with friends for over 70 hours now, and while it’s still in development, I think I've seen enough to share some impressions. Consider this a snapshot in time, not a final verdict. ✅ The Good 🎨 Graphics & World Design Of all the base-building/adventure games I've played recently, Enshrouded feels the most polished visually. Lighting, textures, biomes, and building decor all come together beautifully. Compared to Valheim or V Rising, where things eventually start to feel repetitive, Enshrouded keeps things visually fresh and interesting longer. 🧠 Optimization (esp. on AMD) I first tried the demo when AMD users were getting warning messages. That’s changed. Now the game runs remarkably well, and honestly feels smoother than many full releases. 🏠 Base Building This is one of the game’s strongest features. Even though we’re not exactly mansion-building architects, the system was intuitive and fun enough to inspire creativity. I’d love to see Valheim-style physics introduced eventually — where structural integrity matters — but even without that, base-building is satisfying. 🪂 Traversal The glider system is brilliant. Way better than Valheim’s slow boating and swim-heavy travel. It cuts down tedium and encourages exploration without frustration. 🤔 The Mixed Bag ⚔️ Character Building I was excited to see proper skill trees, unlike the minimalist approach in Valheim. But they don’t quite synergize as they should. It feels like a half-finished system — pick some random perks and you're more or less fine. 🌍 The World Feels Empty Not the Shroud — the actual world. Outside of rescued NPCs, there’s little to discover in terms of life, story, or dynamic events. No traveling traders, no ambient world events, no quest-givers. It’s beautiful but feels underpopulated. 🥊 Combat Not bad, just barebones. Needs deeper class synergy, spell combos, buffs, and combat depth overall. Right now it’s functional, not exciting. 📚 Storytelling There is a story, but it’s mostly told through journals and logs. After a while, I just stopped caring. A more engaging delivery method would go a long way. 🎮 Controller Mapping (Especially for Building) Default controls are awkward. I had to remap everything manually for it to feel right, especially during building. Thankfully, that fixed it. 🌐 Server Performance Works fine with 3-4 players, but becomes spotty beyond that. Needs optimization. ❌ The Frustrating Stuff 📦 Chest Grinding & Loot Progression This broke the game for us. The best gear can be looted from static chests that you can reach early on. We got OP too fast, which made the rest of the content trivial. Yes, you can choose not to loot them — but in a group, if even one person does, you’re out of balance. Top-tier gear should be earned, not found lying around. Tie it to hard quests, crafting blueprints, or endgame dungeons. Also — why does 95% of loot from chests feel like junk? 🧾 Quests They’re all fetch quests. It’s 2024 — surely we can do better than "bring me 5 mushrooms." 🧠 Suggestions for the Future ⚔️ Harder group dungeons with puzzles and unique rewards — mini-raids, basically 🐾 Pets or companions 🐧 Native Linux support for dedicated servers 🌈 HDR support — the game is gorgeous and HDR would make it pop even more 🎯 Final Thoughts Despite its flaws, we thoroughly enjoyed our time in Enshrouded. In the open-world action builder genre, it’s one of the best out there right now. It builds on its predecessors’ strengths (Valheim, V Rising) and meaningfully improves in areas like traversal, building, and polish. There’s a lot of potential here. If the devs keep improving on the weaker systems (combat, world depth, loot balance), Enshrouded could become a genre classic. Thanks for reading — hope this helps someone decide whether to jump in!
