Its good...-ish. A solid idea and fun visuals and great music. But the actual implementation is lacking. Some frustrating movement and game design is the biggest bug bears. I think at the end my enjoyment mostly came from the amazing OST. If you haven't played games like Abzu, Pathless, Solar Ash, and the like do those first. This one is kinda behind them. But if you are still looking for short hit of that style of wholesome mediative game then pick it up.

I had two play sessions playing Europa: The first on a Sunday, where I was looking for something new to play. I played for a little more than an hour and overall enjoyed my experience in that time, but in a sense the game was "too peaceful" for me. A day later, after nine hours at work, I started it up again with the intent of finishing it "to get it over with". And that's when the magic of the zen-like atmosphere, the music, the peaceful world and the easy traversal with very light puzzle elements finally dropped. This is one of those perfect games if your brain is mush after a stressful day and you just want to chill and have a good time. I am sure some people can relate exactly to the feeling I mean, Congratulations to the developer, you did a great job here. The art style is timeless, ensuring that 10-20 years from now (if Steam is still around, as we all hope) new generations of office workers will find it and experience a moment of calm in their stressful lives.

Frankly speaking, this is more a scene and rendering showcase with minimalist story-telling and puzzle. If you want a serene 5-hour journey for the price, this game should be right for you.

Short but such a treat to play No tedious bs puzzles to break the flow- just exploration, gliding and beautiful sceneries If you liked Omno or Abzu, go for it

A very very pretty game with an interesting story and even has some ideas it didn't steal from Journey. Pros: - Extremely pretty environments and vistas, with a one-button jump into photo mode if you want to line up a perfect shot. - Interesting gameplay involving managing energy levels for flight to get where you want to go, grabbing spots that give you more power and avoiding things that will take the power away from you. - Generally very chill game, with no death possible. - The story and setting are fascinating, and what kept me going onward to find the next page. - The journal and bestiary illustrations are amazing and lovingly rendered. Cons: - Screw that one ranged enemy type near the end of the game that there seems to be no way to disable and is constantly targeting where you're going. - The deceleration of the player character is far too long for a platformer. I can't count how many times I slipped off or nearly slipped off a small platform because the character wouldn't stop in time. - The above deceleration also really screwed up fiddly bits with pushing some floating spheres around in one level. - The nature of some free-flowing areas feels marred when I'm also trying to find hidden upgrades around the level. (To be fair, I had this same problem with Journey.) - The controls could use some work. I'm not positive on what's up with the two button combo you have to fiddle with the whole game to manage your flight. Maybe it's the jump and glide buttons being the same and it feeling like sometimes the game misinterprets which one you wanted to do? Maybe it's how the most optimal flight paths involve tapping the trigger a bunch to conserve flight energy over long distances? - The ending of the story is a bit of a confusing dud. Like when we reach the spot with all the circling cryo chambers, it feels like that's where the game should end, with a choice that the narrative presents you. But instead it goes for another couple segments with some out-of-nowhere and unexplained escape sequence? And the narration talking as if the island wasn't exploding or something? And then the game ends with some narrative question mark about a choice I can make? Except I wasn't given a choice?? And the choice is moot anyway with that escape sequence??? Huh (neither good nor bad): - It's at the point when you're running around an open area, hitting switches that enable a series of long arching bridges that will allow you to fly from tower to tower to get to the end of the area, that you go "hang on, I've played this before". And once the comparison to the game Journey has been made, it's kind of hard to stop making it. Oh, this gameplay about managing flight levels is a lot like Journey too. It even has a visual representation of your flight meter on your character's back. Oh hey, here's a section where it looks like you're underwater even though you aren't. (Fortunately, with no threat of permanent flight level decrease.) Oh hey, here's a bit where you're on an auto-scroller and the camera turns to the side to see something pretty. Oh, hey, we've been going up a mountain to a constantly visible end goal this whole time. Yep, here's the snowy section, complete with needing to take shelter from intermittent winds. And here's a section where you're going up a circular room with levels that look like water levels. And here's a big free-flying section near the end. The ending even has you flying all the way back to where you started your journey to begin with, even though it's kind of thematically weird to even do that? And I'm not saying this is a bad thing; inspiration is great. It just feels like someone didn't change enough of the answers they copied. - The artistic decision to make the player character and several other things use a thick-lined, cell-shaded art style is one I'm not keen on. It feels like a 'Looney Toons' animation era of "active elements are colored differently from the background" kind of thing. I don't hate it, but I'm not in love with the player character's proportions or lack of facial definition because of it. Overall, worth the four hours to play through it, imo.
